The Volkswagen ID.5 GTX is expected to make 299 horses and have 310 miles of range

We saw a camouflaged version ahead of the show which didn’t hide much of the styling cues, but it was still with some skin. Now, the coupe-version of the ID.4 was recently spotted stretching its legs at the Nürburgring without nearly any camouflage this time.
What’s To Be Expected Of The ID.5 GTX?
While the car was spotted sans camouflage, the company has managed to deceive most of us. If you observe carefully, there is a wrap of sorts up front that hides the grille and the logo. You can even see DRLs on the bumper side vents. There’s a lip spoiler at the rear along with a tow hitch. The four-door coupe seems quite tall to be running hot laps on the Nürburgring and carving corners like a sports car, but it looks like Volkswagen has high aspirations for it.
The ID.4 GTX comes with a gloss black grille that sets it apart from the standard ID.4. Perhaps, we could see the same pattern followed here. As for the wheels, the design looks pretty sweet on this prototype and we can see the same being offered on the production-spec model, too. A set of 20-inch wheels could be offered as standard and 21-inch as optional. If we take the ID.4 GTX as a benchmark, then at least 14.1-inch rotors should be offered that will take care of the braking duties. The rear setup on the ‘smaller’ sibling involved drum brakes, but here we expect discs to be offered on all four corners. The coupe, surprisingly, even had a tow hitch.
The ID.5 GTX will be the sportier version of the standard ID.5, which itself is a coupe-version of the ID.4.
The ID.5 GTX is expected to churn out 299 horses combined and will have a range of around 310 miles.
The ‘GTX’ denotes a dual-motor setup and will be used on the performance-oriented trims of the EV models. In short, GTX is to EVs what GTI is to internal combustion-engined cars. The GTX badge is not completely new as some cars from the past have graced this moniker. This includes cars like the Jetta, Scirocco, and the Golf. All the Volkswagen performance EVs in the future will come with the GTX badge.
There are no pics of the cabin, but this is what the ID.4 GTX’s interior is all about and nothing less should be offered on the ID.5 GTX:
- GTX badges on the front seat backrests, sill panel trims, and the steering wheel
- Leatherette inserts
- Split-folding rear seats
- Individually adjustable front armrests
- Heated steering wheel
- LED ambient lighting
- 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system (12-inch as optional)
- Head-up display and augmented reality (again, optional)
Opt for the optional packages on offer and you can get goodies like a head-up display with augmented reality, and a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
