All the cars are powered by a V-8 engine and make north of 2,500 horses combined!

Mat Watson and his team from ’Carwow’ got four cars to the drag strip for an all-German drag race. The contenders included the Audi RS6, the BMW M5 CS, the Mercedes-AMG E63, and the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. All the cars feature V-8 engines and two turbochargers. The Porsche goes in the races with a slight advantage, thanks to the electric motor assisting the engine and helping it make the most horses here. But, it’s a double-edged sword as the motor and batteries make it the heaviest. Which car do you think will dominate the races?

Porsche Panamera Is The Most Powerful, But Also The Heaviest

The Mercedes-AMG E63 is powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 mill that makes 612 ponies and 627 pound-feet of torque.

A nine-speed automatic gearbox powers all four wheels.

The BMW M5 CS comes with a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine under the hood that churns out 635 horses and 553 pound-feet of torque.

The wheels are powered by an eight-speed automatic torque converter.

Next up is the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.

It features a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 and an electric motor. Together, the engine and the motor put out 700 ponies and 627 pound-feet of oomph.

A lightning-quick eight-speed, dual-clutch PDK powers all four wheels in this Sport Turismo.

The Audi RS6 is also powered by a twin-turbo V-8 that displaces four liters. It produces 600 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of twist.

The engine is mated with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Here’s how much each car weighs:

  • BMW M5 CS – 4,023 pounds (1,825 kilos)
  • Mercedes-AMG E63 – 4,431 pounds (2,010 kilos)
  • Audi RS6 – 4,575 pounds (2,075 kilos)
  • Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid – 5,214 pounds (2,365 kilos)

The BMW Dominated The Races

The Porsche and the BMW got good starts off the line and they capitalized on them. The former comes with electric motors to assist it with quick starts and the 700-horsepower output made sure it didn’t lag at the cigarette end of the race. However, the BMW edged it at the finish line to come first and give the Porsche second place. The AMG came in third, whereas the RS6 had to make do with the last spot.

In the second race, all four Germans got great starts. But, that didn’t have any impact on the results as the BMW led the pack and eventually won the race. The Porsche, again, came second and was closely followed by the Mercedes-AMG E63. The fact that the Audi makes the least power and is the second heaviest vehicle of the lot didn’t help the cause and it had to settle down for the fourth position.

As for the timings for the second race, the Audi took 11.7 seconds to complete the quarter-mile race. The Mercedes-AMG took 11.4 seconds; one-tenth of a second slower than the Porsche. The BMW beat them all with a time of 10.9 seconds.

They all then competed in a rolling race from 50 mph, locked in comfort settings and automatic mode for the gearbox. The BMW had the best kickdown and left all its rivals far behind. The AMG, on the other hand, took its own sweet time to gain speeds. By the half-mile distance, the Porsche was able to trump the BMW and the Mercedes edged the Audi to claim the odd-numbered positions.

In the second half of the mile race, things changed rapidly. A flock of birds got in the way of the Porsche and the BMW, which forced both of them to slow down a little bit; the Porsche more than the BMW. This allowed the Audi to overtake it and be placed third in the race. The AMG kept going and went past the BMW to claim the pole position.

The second rolling race was also from 50 mph, but this time in sport settings and gearbox locked in manual mode. All the cars were neck and neck at kickdown, but the Panamera and the M5 CS got the leads… again. At the mile-mark, the BMW just about had its nose ahead of the Porsche to claim the victory. The Mercedes-AMG didn’t do too bad either, as it was less than a car length away from its rivals. Oh, and there’s also the Audi wagon that didn’t make any difference to the race whatsoever and was pretty much out of contention all the time.

The brake test from 100 mph was the last round. The Porsche Panamera stopped in the shortest distance despite being the heaviest of them all. The BMW M5 and the Audi RS6 claimed the second and third positions, respectively. The Mercedes-AMG E63 kept floating away and stopped much ahead of its competitors.
