To Hell with Emissions - Dodge Brings Back the Direct Connection Performance Program

Dodge’s plans for the next two years are freaking amazing

LISTEN 02:27

Over the last decade, Dodge has been giving us all sorts of high-performance cars, based on the Challenger and Charger models. And while one of their most iconic models – the Dodge Viper – was retired a few years ago, Dodge wants to make up for it, by reviving an old performance program. It’s called Direct Connection and here’s what you can expect from it.

Direct Connection is a performance program initially introduced in 1974. Back then, it offered factory upgrades for Dodge, Chrysler, and Plymouth models. While MOPAR has largely taken over as a parts supplier for Chrysler products, the program is reintroduced. Dodge is making a “24-month commitment, to never lift”, as we will be getting at least one “product action” each quarter of the year throughout the next two years.

The factory upgrade parts from Dodge’s Direct Connection program are going to be sold exclusively through specialized dealerships through the Power Brokers program. Both programs are going to kick off on December 15, 2021. These specialized dealerships are the only source of these specially-designed parts and rely on dedicated personnel.

The experts in these dealerships will provide information on street and track performance parts. Certain parts will be specifically designed for track use. These include a body in white, which can be used for a drag build.

To make things even more exciting, Dodge is teaming up with Amazon for Operation 25/8. In order to end 2021 with a bang, Dodge will give away 25 awesome cars over the last eight weeks of the year. The operation involves 25 people that are the absolute best at what they do – musicians, athletes, as well as individuals from the wider automotive world, to take the role of ambassadors and give away the cars. Expect more details on November 12.

Last but not least, Dodge is looking for a new “donut master,” which is similar to the role of brand ambassador in other car companies. We are reminded that the Dodge brothers were “scrappy go-getters,” which eventually led to them making some of the most iconic Muscle cars. This kind of attitude is key, which is why the position offers a $150,000 annual salary and a Dodge Hellcat company car. I’m in! More details on this program will arrive on January 12.

Born in 1992, I come from a family of motoring enthusiasts. My passion for cars was awoken at the age of six, when I saw a Lamborghini Diablo SV in a magazine. After high school I earned a master’s degree in marketing and a Master of Arts in Media and Communications. Over the years, I’ve practiced and become skilled in precision driving and to date have test driven more than 250 cars across the globe. Over the years, I’ve picked up basic mechanical knowledge and have even taken part in the restoration of a 1964 Jaguar E-Type and an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint. Lately, I’ve taken a fancy to automotive photography, and while modern cars are my primary passion, I also have a love for Asian Martial Arts, swimming, war history, craft beer, historical weapons, and car restoration. In time, I plan my own classic car restoration and hope to earn my racing certificate, after which I expect to establish my own racing team.  Read full bio
