The Volkswagen SP2 "Reborn" Is An Obscure Brazillian Classic, Reimagined

Apparently, a designer that goes by the name of rob3rtdesign is of the same mind, as he has decided to take the Brazil-only Volkswagen SP2 and turn it into something that looks like an epic side project, made by RUF or Singer.
Brief History of the Volkswagen SP2
The SP2 was a rear-engine sports car by Volkswagen, made between 1973 and 1976. It was built in Brazil, for the South American market. The engine was a 1.7-liter, air-cooled flat-four that made 75 horsepower, which resulted in a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) time of 16.0 seconds and a top speed of 100 mph (161 km/h). SP was supposed to stand for Sao Paolo, but people dubbed it “Sem Potencia” (without power). Just over 11,000 units were built of the VW SP2.

Reborn As an EV?
While some designers go the extra length to give some imaginary specs, rob3rtdesign did not deem that necessary. That said, we are pretty sure that, if the SP2 is making a comeback, it will be in the form of an EV.
This isn’t the first SP2-based rendering from the pixel artist, but it is one of the most interesting ones, as the wide-bodied renderings look like RUF or Singer have taken an old SP2 and have turned it into a
inspired tribute.
The renderings include serious modifications, such as flared fenders, deep-dish Fuchs-inspired wheels, and the iconic ducktail, that we are used to seeing on classic 911 models, and some of their modern incarnations, like the 997 Sport Classic. There are also halo headlights, which are an obvious nod to RUF and their subtle, modern touches.
Other touches include the beefy dual exhaust tips, as well as the centrally-positioned fuel-filler cap on the “frunk” lid that are present on older competition-spec 911 versions. The whole rear end, in fact, looks like a classic Porsche 911 that has been reimagined and modernized by RUF or Singer.
The Volkswagen SP2 is a car, largely forgotten due to the geopolitical factors, surrounding Brazil. Luckily, the rear-engine, Brazilian-only, German coupe is getting the attention it deserves, and, in time, we might see epic engine swaps in these. Imagine one of these with a 911 GT3 engine. The renderings by rob3rtdesign look particularly beefy and could be the inspiration for many future projects. The designer even has a YouTube channel, which gives life into the renderings, making them appear as if they were real. For now, we can only dream.
