The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Drag Races A Lamborghini Huracan STO – Who Do You Think Will Win?

The Huracan STO and the AMG GT Black Series are both mighty quick machines, and that makes this a tough fight

Tim Burton from ‘Shmee150’, popularly known as Shmee, brought two of his track machines to an airstrip for a few drag races. First up was the Lamborghini Huracan STO that featured a naturally aspirated V-10, and the other was the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series powered by a 4.0-liter, forced-induction V-8. Both these cars are quick runners, but which one do you think will win?

How Much Power Do Both These Cars Make?

The AMG GT Black Series is powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine that puts out 720 horses and 590 pound-feet of torque in the stock form. This example, however, has been equipped with a new exhaust and a Stage 1 tune, courtesy of which it now makes around 850 horses on the dyno. Power is routed to the rear wheels exclusively via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It is fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber on all four corners. The car weighs approximately 3,500 pounds.

The Lamborghini Huracan STO draws power from a 5.2-liter, naturally aspirated V-10. The engine churns out 640 horses and 429 pound-feet of twist. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox drives the rear wheels here as well. The car is fitted with Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires. It weighs a shade under 3,000 pounds.

How Did The Races Go?

Shmee noted earlier that the track is damp and the tires haven’t been able to reach their optimum temperature. So, traction will play a big role. However, things were expected to ease up after the first run as the tires would be warmer and offer better grip.

For the first race, the GT Black Series was locked in the Race mode with comfort settings for the suspension. The Huracan STO was slotted in the hardcore track setting called the Trofeo mode. The GT Black Series seemed to have a better grip off the line, but the Huracan STO went past it after the first gear change. However, the AMG car didn’t let it get any further and soon caught up, went past it, and eventually won the race.

In the second, the Huracan STO’s driver, Christian, had a better reaction time and the car gripped better than the AMG. It flew off the line and got a distinct advantage. The GT Black Series started catching up after the gained speeds, but it was a little too late as the Lamborghini Huracan STO registered a win.

The third race was much closer. They see-sawed a bit before the Mercedes-AMG edged the Lamborghini to score another win and win the series 2-1

Both the cars had a good start off the line and were neck and neck before the Lambo edged it a little. But, the AMG showed its prowess and got its Pinocchio nose ahead of its rival to win the third race.
