In this latest ¼ mile drag race showdown, Daniel Abt pits two vehicles that cater to two different ends of the SUV spectrum. They include the Rolls Royce Cullinan, which has to be the most luxurious SUVs that money can buy today, and the Lamborghini Urus, one of the sportiest ones out there.

While Daniel chose the Cullinan, you’ve got Aberle Tobias take the wheel of the sporty Urus. The SUV battle takes place at an airbase, somewhere in continental Europe with some spectacular scenery in the background.

In the grey corner, we have the Cullinan is the quicker black badge variant that is quicker when compared to the standard model. Its 6.75-liter V-12 engine produces 592 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque

The Cullinan that we’re looking at today is the Black Badge variant. However, according to Daniel, despite this being the quick one in the Cullinan’s lineup, this Roller has to be one of the least sporty SUVs out there and isn’t really designed for drag racing. Under the hood of this ultimate Luxury SUV lies a 6.75-liter V-12 engine that produces 592 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. It weighs 5864 pounds.

Meanwhile, in the white corner, we have the bonkers Lamborghini Urus, which has been rated as one of the fastest SUVs in the world

The Urus as everyone knows is one of the fastest and sporty SUVs that money can buy today. It marks Lambo’s return to the SUV market after three decades of the legendary LM002 of the 80s. While the Rambo Lambo had military underpinnings, the URUS, from the onset was designed to be one thing. Be fast, and that it certainly accomplishes. Under the hood of the lies a 4.0-liter Bi-turbo V-8 that produces 641 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. Although the Lambo weighs considerably lesser than the Rolls, tipping the scales at 4850 pounds, the Cullinan does pack more torque. Will that make a difference? Well, let’s find out.

The showdown unfolded at an airbase against some spectacular scenery

Both SUVs line up for launch. The lights go out and unsurprisingly, the Urus is in the lead, and the lead just gets bigger as they head towards the quarter-mile marker. It’s an easy win for the Lambo, which clocked in a time of 11.87 seconds at 118.59 mph, while the Rolls managed 12.8 seconds at 115.44 mph. Although Toby won this round, he was surprised by the Cullinan’s performance.

You can see the difference in pace and the results speak for themselves

The pair then decide to go in for another pass. This time around, the Lambo gets an even better launch and pulls aggressively off the line. It’s no contest really, as the Cullinan was left behind for dead. And the numbers support this. The Urus managed an even faster quarter-mile time of 11.64 seconds at 121.21 mph, while the Cullinan cruised to the finish line at 12.9 seconds at 118.58 mph.

Rolling Race

In the final pass for the day, the pair do a Rolling Race from 37 mph

The final pass for the day was a rolling race from 37 mph. Both SUVs get up to speed. 3, 2, 1… GO!!! Daniel could do nothing but watch the Lambo pull away into the distance. But I guess it wasn’t a bad view after all, especially when you have a blacked-out Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament to look at. The Urus had this one in the bag, easy. One thing to note is that Daniel had to apply a considerable amount of brake force to bring the Cullinan to a halt, to the extent that the hazards came on.

To Sum it Up

So, a definitive win then for the Lamborghini Urus. Okay, this might seem like a pointless drag race, especially when you have a Rolls Royce as one of the contenders. A Rolls isn’t designed for drag races, which is why you don’t even get a rev counter. You get a power reserve gauge instead. Although it’s packing a V-12 under the hood, the Cullinan is as many will agree, designed with the primary objective of wafting you along. The Lamborghini meanwhile, is an outright supercar wrapped in an SUV body. In the end, it was these guys just having fun on a Sunday.
