Bring A Trailer (BAT)

The Lo-Res Car has to be one of the strangest automobiles out there, even as far as concept cars go. It’s no wonder that it eventually made it to the Petersen Automotive Museum in L.A. They acquired this extremely rare vehicle three years ago, and the car is now being auctioned for no reserve at BringATrailer.com. It is being offered on a bill of sale and does not have a title or registration for use on the street.

The Lexus LFA needs no introduction. It was in production for two years and the company made 500 examples in total. For some reason, Lexus wasn’t able to sell all the 500 examples. As of the end of 2020, there was still one LFA unsold! But, that doesn’t mean the car doesn’t have a demand. An LFA with 7,000 miles on the odo recently hit the Bring-a-Trailer auction and it has already attracted the highest bid of $650,000! It could receive higher bids since there are three more days at the time of writing this article.

You can find some amazing stuff on bringatrailer.com and this Jaguar XJS is a perfect example. Granted, a 1977 Jaguar XJS probably isn’t your first choice of platform for a performance build, but it shows that even a lazy gran tourer, like this Jaguar, can turn into a proper tire-shredding machine. It’s an ambitious father and son project that’s actually finished (yes, such a thing is possible) and now, it’s for sale.

The Ferrari 500 Mondial was inspired by a design created by Dino Ferrari to freshen up the look of the old 166. The first three of the 500 Mondials were built by Scaglietti, a young coachbuilder from Modena. Later, Pinin Farina made 15 of these, although a Ferrari historian, Marcel Massini, notes that 16 were made. Either way, one of the Pinin Farina-built models has come up for sale on Bring-a-Trailer and it has already received a bid of $1 million!

Lately, we have been turning a lot of attention towards Lamborghini. Something that was made inevitable with the revival of the iconic Lamborghini Countach. The Gandini-designed Countach was produced for 16 years before it was finally replaced by the Lamborghini Diablo. Although the latter did not manage to achieve quite the same status as its predecessor, it was better in every measurable way. With this in mind, a very clean example of the Diablo just popped up for sale, at a surprisingly low price.

A Jaguar XJ220 with only 1800 miles on the clock has come up for sale on Bring-A-Trailer. The XJ220 briefly held the title for the fastest car in the world in the early 90s until it was excised by the Mclaren F1.

What is the first thing that springs to mind when you hear the Lexus name? You most likely responded with dependability or prestige. However, there was one car in the Japanese manufacturer’s history that prioritized performance over everything else. The vehicle I’m referring to is the ultra-rare and exotic Lexus LFA .

Lamborghini introduced the Murciélago back in 2001 as a successor to the Diablo. The Murciélago was in production for almost a decade. It was the first new car after 11 years and also happened to be the first under its new parent, Volkswagen. The Italian car was also the new flagship V-12 and worthy to be the face of the company. The car sold in decent numbers – 4,099 examples to be exact – and is still a hit with enthusiasts.

The Ferrari F430 was unveiled at the 2004 Paris Motor Show as a successor to the Ferrari 360. It came with a whole lot of changes compared to its predecessor, especially in the aerodynamic efficiency department. The F430 now generated a greater downforce, thus instilling more confidence at higher speeds. The supercar was in production for about five years from 2004 to 2009 wherein Ferrari make around 15,000 examples of it. Not exactly a rare breed, but the F430 came with a naturally aspirated V-8 and a lot of heritage-inspired elements that make it a looker even to this day.

Ford’s RS200 Evolution had quite an up-and-down career path, yet it remains one of the raddest cars to ever go rallying, mostly because FoMoCo took a different approach when building it compared to what Audi and Lancia were doing.

A one-off McLaren Senna that’s been customized by McLaren Special Operations is up for auction on Bring A Trailer. The unit, number 401 of the 500 Sennas made, is unique for several reasons, none more significant than the “Merlin” name it’s been bestowed. The one-of-a-kind Senna “Merlin” currently has a bid of $900,000 with eight days left in the auction.

The hand-built 507 is arguably the most eye-pleasing BMW to ever hit the streets and the fact that it was made in very limited numbers only adds to its desirability.

BMW built just 254 units between 1955 and 1959 and as some of you might recall, Elvis Presley drove one. You can, too, but only if you’re willing to shell out north of $1.6 million.
