The 2020 Volkswagen ID.3 is an all-electric compact hatchback that the German automaker unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. The 2020 ID.3 is the first Volkswagen based on the new MEB platform, which will underpin a full range of electric vehicles in the future. Heavily based on the ID Neo concept, the 2020 ID.3 is similar to the Volkswagen Golf in size, so it’s pretty much a replacement for the e-Golf.
A competitor for models like the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt, and Tesla Model 3, the 2020 Volkswagen ID.3 is available with three drivetrains that provide different outputs and mileage ratings. The range-topping model will deliver in excess of 200 horsepower and return more than 300 miles of range on a single charge. The 2020 ID.3 will cost less than €30,000 in Europe. We Just Caught the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX Making Short Work of the Nurburgring
Volkswagen was supposed to debut the ID.5 GTX at the 2021 IAA Mobility Show in Munich, but canceled it at the last minute. We saw a camouflaged version ahead of the show which didn’t hide much of the styling cues, but it was still with some skin. Now, the coupe-version of the ID.4 was recently spotted stretching its legs at the Nürburgring without nearly any camouflage this time.
Volkswagen ID.4 Ready To Enter Rebelle Rally
With a history of six years, the Rebelle Rally is a competition for women, but is nowhere near an easy one. A pair consisting of a driver and a navigator need to use their skills, navigation tools, and limited supplies across 1,400 miles through the deserts of Nevada and California.
And, this year’s competition will see the entry of the Volkswagen ID.4 AWD Pro electric SUV. It will be driven by Mercedes Lilienthal, with Emily Winslow being the navigator. The competition will take place from October 7–16, 2021.

EPA fuel economy estimates for the new, 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 are in and the German EV is just as efficient as the company claimed it would be. The Environmental Protection Agency says that the ID.4 will be able to travel for up to 250 miles on a single change, which is identical to Volkswagen’s forecast for the U.S. market. This figures places the ID.4 above the Standard Range version of the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Volkswagen only recently introduced its first I.D. all-electric production model, but it’s been toying with the concept since the Dieselgate emissions scandal in 2015. Following its withdrawal from motorsport, Volkswagen developed the I.D. R, an all-electric race car with 671 horsepower.
The German brand first raced the I.D. R at Pikes Peak in 2018, setting a new record for electric cars. It also set records at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, Good Festival of Speed Hillclimb, Tianmen Mountain, and Bilster Berg. More recently Volkswagen gave the EV to F1 driver Nico Rosberg for a hot lap around the Nurburgring F1 track and the I.D. R sounds like a space ship under full throttle.

2021 Volkswagen ID.4 - The First VW ID To Arrive In The United States
The Volkswagen ID.4 – the first ID EV model to make its way to U.S. shores, has finally been revealed, and it looks to compete in a cut-throat segment. Riding on VW’s new MEB architecture, the same underpinnings that supports the ID.3 hatch, the ID.4 features an 82-kWh battery (77-kWh of which is usable) and a rear-mounted motor that’s good for 201 horsepower and 228 pound-feet of torque. VW’s press release promises a range of 520 km or 323 miles on the WLTP scale, which boils down to about 250 miles of range per charge in the real world. To help ease the pain of range anxiety, however, the ID.4 will come with three years of unlimited charging. In a DC fast charger rated at 125 kW, VW claims that the ID.4 can suck in 198 miles worth of electricity in 30 minutes.
According to VW, the ID.4 is capable of hitting 62 mph (100 kph) in 8.5 seconds and tops out at just 99.41 mph. Come spring of 2021, VW will offer an AWD model that will boast a total of 302 horsepower, an extra 101 ponies coming from the front motor. Torque, we suspect will be somewhere in the 300 pound-foot range, but that is purely speculation at this point. VW’s new EV does offer up 8.26-inches (21 cm) of ground clearance, which is said to be enough to handle “gentle off-road terrain.”
The inside is fairly basic for an EV, but comes off as a decent blend between modern design and futuristic tech. A driver-oriented infotainment system sits atop the dash with a small horizontal screen providing basic driving information like speed, range, and the like. Luggage capacity is rated at 19.17 cubic-feet with max storage coming in at 55.62 cubic-feet. Overall, the ID.4 could bring quite the fight to models like the Hyundai Kona EV, Chevy Bolt, and Nissan Leaf, but only time will tell how successful it can really be.

A New Leak Exposes the Volkswagen ID.4 and Its Various Wheel Options
Thanks to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, we now know what the production-version Volkswagen ID.4 will look like. The crystal-clear images of the ID.4 were leaked by the department and show the exterior of the EV from all the angles.

The Volkswagen ID.3 Isn’t Coming to the States, But This ID.4 Is!
Ironically, the Dieselgate mishap is what triggered a downright electric revolution within the Volkswagen Group. Just take a step back and observe just how big of a fuss (the be translated into effort of all sorts - investments, marketing, and logistics) the giant is making about its electrified future. Porsche has its first-ever electric sports car, Audi is coming in hot with e-tron badged EVs, and of course, Volkswagen has just unveiled the ID.3, a third-coming model that the company hopes to enjoy just as much popularity as the Beetle and the Golf.
We’ll see about that in the years to come, but the ID.3 won’t be alone for long. Volkswagen will also pull the ID.4 out of its magic ha,t and U.S. residents will want to hear that: it is coming Stateside.
Honda Might Be Afraid, But VW isn’t - There Will be a Volkswagen ID.3 R by 2024
In the very same day that a project manager decided to kill the hope of ever seeing a Honda e Type R, Volkswagen has confirmed that it’s not only interested in making a hotter version of the ID 3, but it’s pretty sure that the ID 3 R – or whatever it will be called – will be introduced to the market by 2024. The latest that fell victim to a spy photographer’s lens is a curiously uncovered Volkswagen Tiguan. It was wheeling, silently, in nearly the same way as that Golf Sportsvan I wrote about earlier. As it turns out, this one famously hides the body of the next Volkswagen ID Crozz. It is definitely one of the most important electric vehicles that will appear in the next year or two, and this is essentially all that we know about it.

The Volkswagen I.D. R Is The Fastest Car Ever Around The Goodwood Hillclimb Course
Volkswagen continues to impress us with its I.D. R race car, the moving technology lab of the giant from Wolfsburg, one that’s been created to break records and, in the process, prove to the world that Volkswagen’s EVs will knock everybody out of the park. Last weekend, during the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed Romain Dumas driving a revised version of the I.D. R did just that, making every other car that has ever run on Lord March’s Hillclimb course seem pedestrian as he smashed the all-time record set 20 years ago in a full-blown Formula 1 car.
There are still many that will never bring themselves to even accept electric cars as the way forward, let alone try and like them. While this is true, it’s also true that cars like Volkswagen’s I.D. R are surely turning heads among even the most hardcore fans of the old-school internal combustion engine. This car has, in the space of little over 12 months, smashed the all-time record at the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb and then did the same around the Nurburgring-Nordschleife with a time fast enough to make it the second fastest car around that track ever. That it also broke the EV record at Goodwood last year seems almost moot given what Dumas did this year with the car.
The Volkswagen ID.R Just Slaughtered the Nurburgring - Here’s How Fast
Do you hear it? It’s the Volkswagen PR machine stomping the ground and announcing far and wide that the halo car of the I.D. family has just annihilated the Nurburgring-Nordschleife circuit in Germany and, in the process, put a new benchmark lap time for EVs. The time? A 6:05.336 after many tryout laps and other tests that have commenced in April. Is it noteworthy? Most certainly. Is it as noteworthy as VW would want you to believe? Not really. Bear with me to see what I’m talking about.
Last year, Volkswagen sent shockwaves around the world when Frenchman Romain Dumas claimed victory and shattered the previous all-time record set by rally legend Sebastien Loeb in 2013 at the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb. Already an overall winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours race and a three-time winner of the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, Dumas pulled the feat aboard Volkswagen’s cutting-edge I.D.-R, a purpose-built prototype made for the Race to the Clouds. He followed that up by raising the bar on Lord March’s driveway and setting a new EV record during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Since late last year, we’ve heard that the German giant is after the record and it all came down now. The NIO EP9’s reign is no more.
Volkswagen Received 10,000 Orders for the 2020 Volkswagen ID.3 Within the First 24 Hours of Pre-Ordering
Volkswagen reported that, within the first 24 hours after opening registrations, the ID.3 hatchback collected 10,000 pre-booking across Europe. The massive number of users overloaded VW’s system, which caused interruptions and delays to customers trying to pay the $1,122 deposit due for the registration.
With a 205-mile range, the base model ID.3 starts from "under €30,000". Starting from "less than €40,000" the ID.3 limited edition "1st" includes a 261-mile battery. Two trims of that model are available: "1st Plus" and "1st Max".

It’s not the lineup we can expect, but Volkswagen’s growing family of I.D. concepts welcomed its newest member to the fold at Auto Shanghai 2019. The new model, called the I.D. Roomzz Concept, is yet another concept crossover that previews a production model that’s scheduled to hit the Chinese market sometime in 2020. If VW’s grand EV plans come to fruition — the German automaker is putting up almost $35 billion in investments to its EV cause — the production version of the I.D. Rooms Concept would follow the all-electric hatchback and all-electric crossover that Volkswagen already has in the pipeline. Testing of the hatchback model, called the ID.3, is now in full swing after a series of videos previewing the model’s Launch Edition leaked online. The budding excitement surrounding the ID.3’s coming launch shouldn’t take away from the potential of the I.D. Roomzz Concept, especially with what this concept brings to the table.

Buggy Concept at the 2019 Geneva Auto Show, Volkswagen is back with a more serious discourse as it announces a new concept that will be unveiled at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show. The German automaker is talking about the I.D. Roomzz, a crossover SUV with an innovative cabin layout that will arrive on the Chinese market by 2021.
When Volkswagen first announced that it will quite literally bombard the EV segment with a cacophony of models of all shapes and sizes in the next decade, I genuinely thought the German giant was a bit over ambitious in the wake of the still-relevant Dieselgate scandal. The company based in Wolfsburg claimed that 70 models are in the pipeline and, in the past couple of years, we’ve been periodically greeted by new concepts that preview production models from the I.D. family. Now, as we’re edging closer to the launch of the first production-ready I.D. model, the I.D. Hatch, Volkswagen is preparing another concept for the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show, one that’s become impossible to ignore by the big players in the car-building world.
Volkswagen To Tackle Tianmen Shan Big Gate Road with I.D. R
Volkswagen’s bespoke electric prototype racer that was the fastest at last year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event will most likely add another record to its cabinet. Romain Dumas will pilot it in September on the so-called "Road to Heaven" that features 99 bends along 6.83 miles of road, longer than the original Spa-Francorchamps road course.
This year, Volkswagen will finally introduce the first model from its much-advertised I.D. family of electric models that are supposed to make us all rethink our lives, ponder on existence as a whole and so on and so forth. To keep the ball rolling and the buzz going, Volkswagen is yet to park the glorious LMP-like I.D. R in a museum and, instead, it will take the 670 horsepower beast all the way to China to compete on a strip of road that’s not opened to the public.
2019 Volkswagen I.D. BUGGY Concept
The Volkswagen I.D. Buggy is a concept car that draws inspiration from the iconic dune buggies of the 1960s. A fully electric vehicle built on Volkswagen’s new MEB modular platform, the I.D. Buggy is part of the company’s I.D. series of vehicles that includes six concept cars as of 2019. Unlike some of its siblings though, the I.D. Buggy won’t make it into production.
Having used the I.D. series to develop a modern successor to the iconic VW Bus, the German firm also created a modern interpretation of the classic dune buggy. The latter became known in the 1960s, when some privateers from California, most notably Bruce Meyers, converted rear-engined Volkswagen Beetles into roofless and doorless recreational vehicles for use on sand dunes and beaches. The I.D. Buggy pays tribute to its spiritual predecessor in both design and functionality, but it adds an electric drivetrain into the mix.

The German giant from Wolfsburg has been dropping hints on the 2021 Golf for a while now, but we’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see the refreshed version of the best-selling car in Europe. Why? Well, Volkswagen needs extra time to fix some last-minute things on the Golf, and this would push the release date well past what was originally planned, namely to have the car at the Frankfurt Auto Show. A launch event on the eve of the holiday season isn’t what Volkswagen wants for the Golf, apparently.

Volkswagen has said that it will be increasing its current target of 50 electric models across its brands to 70 models by the end of 2030. With this expansion, Volkswagen electric cars are expected to comprise around 40-percent of total vehicle sales. Sounds insane, right? based buggies that exploded in popularity in the 1960s. Now VW wants to revive that sun-loving spirit with its new two-seater ID Buggy Concept that was just revealed at the 2019 Geneva motor show.
Volkswagen Has Weird Intentions for a Baby SUV
We don’t have to speak about the crossover and SUV boom; you know all about it. BUt not a lot of them are electrified yet. However, Auto Express has reported that Volkswagen is planning to introduce an entry-level crossover under its upcoming I.D lineup. The SUV will be roughly the size of the T-Cross and will slot beneath the I.D. Crozz.

Bruce Meyers’ Manx buggy was one of the huge automotive hits of the ’60s and, channeling the spirit of those years; it was a full-on DIY project that turned into a phenomenon. Now, Volkswagen, the company that powered Meyers’ dreams via the Beetle platform, teased a potential revival of the buggy as an electric concept part of the I.D. family.
This year, Volkswagen’s traditional Christmas card features the muscular silhouette of an open-top rugged off-roader with Santa in the driver’s seat. This suggests that the German automaker is looking to unveil yet another concept under the I.D. umbrella inspired by the buggy that was paramount to the creation of the Baja Rally.

Volkswagen wants the electric lap record at the Nurburgring
Records are meant to be broken, right? Well, the outright lap record at the Nurburgring stood for over three decades before Porsche came back to better it this summer. Now, it seems that the record might fall again, sooner than anyone expected, and in the hands of Volkswagen no less. The German manufacturer plans to obliterate the existing record for electric cars with the already impressive I.D.R., but there might be enough juice in the electric prototype to top the overall leaderboard in the process.
The outright record around the northern loop of the Nurburgring was something of a staple in motorsport. For over 30 years, the 6:11.130 lap time set by Germany’s Stefan Bellof was unbeaten. That is, until this summer when Porsche brought their 919 on steroids and, with Timo Bernhard behind the wheel, sliced the fastest lap time by almost a minute. It seems, now, that the new record won’t last for other three-and-a-half decades as the car that proved untouchable at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hillclimb event will take on the Nurburgring next May.
Volkswagen won’t abandon combustion engines but will focus on EVs beyond 2026
Volkswagen’s plans with the I.D. family are undoubtedly grand, and the German manufacturer is going to great lengths to make sure their upcoming EVs will be best-sellers from the word go, but internal combustion engines won’t be killed off by the end of 2026 as previously reported.
Remember VW’s plans to build 1,000,000 EVs a year by 2025? Well, the car maker from Wolfsburg is now aiming to roll out 15,000,000 cars based on the new MEB platform in the first wave. That calls for a continuous flow of money that will see Volkswagen cut costs by eliminating some of the ICE models from its lineup and curtail redundancies in various administrative departments.
Is The VW ID R About To Tackle The Nurburgring?
As one of the most astounding racing cars in the world, the electric Volkswagen ID R seems to be gunning for the Nurburgring Lap Record. Sources close to the company reported that Volkswagen actually booked the track for May next year. We suspect it will try to send the slightly retuned electric ID R to that very track in order to slash the electric car record and take the scalp off the Nio EP9. That one managed to lap the Green Hell in 6 minutes 45.9 seconds. It is, obviously, a really fast car. Yet, considering the blistering Volkswagen ID R hill climb run at Pikes Peak where it smashed the previous record by 15 seconds and managed to finish the course in 7min 57.148 seconds, I can only imagine it will do the same at Nurburgring.

Volkswagen might be working hard to broaden its cutting-edge electric offerings as of late, but it isn’t forgetting where it came from, digging deep into its catalogue of classic hits to mate the new with the old. Now, the latest VW icon to get EV’d could be the ever-lovable Beach Buggy.
Volkswagen Will Phase Out Internal Combustion Engines by 2026
Finally, Volkswagen has made the announcement. After investing billions of dollars into electrification already, the German automaker said that the next generation of its cars will be the last with internal combustion engines, which will be phased out completely by 2026.
2018 Volkswagen I.D. Buzz Cargo
Volkswagen is reviving the Type 2 Transporter Delivery Van of the ’60s with its new I.D. Cargo Buzz Concept which was presented at the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hannover, Germany. As a sibling to the I.D. Buzz it uses the same MEB platform and will come as early as 2021 with a variety of battery options to suit anyone and everyone’s needs.

Volkswagen Rumored to Flood Segment With New Subcompact Crossover EV
Volkswagen’s I.D. lineup of electric vehicles keeps growing. The German automaker has already greenlit production versions of the I.D., I.D. Buzz, I.D. Crozz, and I.D. Vizzion concepts. Now, a new report indicates that Volkswagen isn’t done adding new models to the fold. A new subcompact crossover is under consideration for the all-electric I.D. range. The model is pegged as an entry-level vehicle that will cost a little over $21,000. If it gets approved, it could go on sale sometime after 2020.
