Bentley seems to have stepped on the gas here to pump the sales numbers and attract a wider audience base. After refreshing the Bentayga and the Bentayga Speed for the 2021 model year, the automaker has now announced a new trim in the lineup called the Bentayga S. It comes with a V-8 engine at heart and features a few aesthetic upgrades inside out. But, the highlight here is the introduction of the Bentley Dynamic Ride system. So, at the core, the USP of this fourth Bentayga model is its dynamic on-road performance.

The 2021 Bentley Bentayga LWB is a long-wheelbase version of the already familiar Bentayga. Not yet confirmed by the British company, the SUV was spotted testing around and on the Nurburgring track and looks ready to go into production.
Compared to the regular Bentayga, the 2021 Bentayga LWB will feature a slightly longer wheelbase that will add a few extra inches of legroom for second-row seat passengers. When’s it going into production and what extras will it come with? Find out in the speculative review below.
2021 Bentley Bentayga Speed
In production since late 2015, the Bentley Bentayga received its much deserved mid-cycle facelift in June 2020. Less than two months have passed and the British automaker revealed the updated Bentayga Speed model, which means the old Speed goes out of production after only a year on the market. Changes are similar to those seen on the regular model, while drivetrain specs remain unchanged. However, the Speed is now your only option if you want a Bentayga with a W-12, as the big mill is no longer available on the regular SUV.

This Rendering Shows What the Facelifted 2021 Bentley Bentayga Should Look Like
Believe it or not, the Bentayga is Bentley’s best-selling model so it’s only natural for the British carmaker to allocate special attention to its luxury SUV, which is poised to see fruition once the facelifted Bentayga hits the market.
A couple of leaked images of the revised Bentayga pretty much ruined the element of surprise for Bentley as far as a reveal is concerned, but one visual artist believes the SUV would look better if it borrowed some styling cues from the Mulliner Bacalar drop-top.
Bentley Bentayga Hybrid Has Worse Highway Fuel Economy than the V-8 Model
The EPA released mpg ratings for the 2020 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid recently and it seems that the plug-in hybrid is not as efficient as one might think. Although most hybrids return better mpg than regular gasoline models, the electrified Bentayga is actually rated below its V-8 counterpart when it comes to highway mpg. Specifically, the hybrid falls behind the non-hybrid V-8 by two mpg.
The Apocalypse-Dominating Bentley Bentayga Bengala is Just Downright Mean
The Bentley Bentayga is supposed to be a luxury SUV, unlike any other. It’s still that for the most part, but the Bentayga apparently has a dark and sinister side that’s waiting to be unlocked. Turns out, Spanish design house Bengala Automotive Design SL, with the help of an unidentified Spanish off-road rally champion and his team, has a key to that lock, and it did more than just unlock the Bentayga’s mean mug. It unleashed a tank-like monstrosity known as the Bentley Bentayga Bengala. Only 15 units of the Bentley Bentayga Bengala will be made. Each model will be made to the exact specification of the owner, so it’s unlikely that we’ll see two exact-spec Bengala units. There is no word on how much a unit will cost. Given the limited and custom-centric nature of the Bengala, we can at least expect a unit to cost a hell of a lot more than the Bentayga’s $195,000 base price.
2019 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid
The 2019 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid is the electrified version of the company’s first SUV. It’s also Bentley’s first hybrid ever, as well as the world’s first luxury SUV with an electric motor. The Bentayga Hybrid joins the original 2017 Bentayga with the W-12 engine that Bentley unveiled in 2015, as well as the V-8 and diesel variants that the British firm launched since 2017.
The Bentayga Hybrid is virtually identical to the regular SUV inside and out. The exterior features an additional "fuel" cap for the plug-in socket, while the interior includes new tech and a revised infotainment system for hybrid duty. Things are notably different under the skin though, where the familiar W-12 and V-8 engines were replaced with a V-6 and an electric motor. 2019 Bentley Bentayga V8 Design Series
The Bentley Bentayga V8 Design Series is a special-edition version of the luxury SUV. As an appearance package, Design Series combined new features designed by the Mulliner division with a range of existing options. Bentley says it’s "a contemporary styled and visually dynamic version of the world’s most luxurious SUV," although the Design Series isn’t a major departure from the standard Bentayga.
Although the British SUV is available with two gasoline engine, a diesel, and a hybrid, the Design Series is restricted to just one drivetrain. As the name suggests, it only comes with the 4.0-liter V-8, which is the entry-level model in terms of pricing. There’s no word as to how many will be built, but it probably won’t be around for too long.
2020 Bentley Bentayga Speed
The Bentley Bentayga Speed is the range-topping version of the company’s first-ever SUV. Launched in early 2019, it joins the standard gas model, the diesel, and the hybrid versions of the British hauler. The Speed badge is borrowed from the Continental GT, which Bentley introduced for the first time back in 2008. Just like the Continental GT Speed, the Bentayga Speed is a slightly beefed-up version of the regular model. It’s also equipped with unique features, while some of the Bentayga’s usual options are offered as standard. However, the Speed is only marginally more powerful than the Bentayga, which prevents Bentley from having a full-fledged competitor for the Lamborghini Urus. Still, it’s the company’s most powerful SUV yet, and it’s also one of only two production SUVs that can hit 190 mph.

Bentley Launches The 2019 Bentayga Speed At Geneva and It’s Faster Than The Urus
Bentley’s first SUV just became more powerful and faster although you won’t notice it that quickly when you look at the exterior of the new Bentayga Speed. Underneath the pretty bronze exterior, there’s a 626 horsepower 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged, W-12 behemoth that helps the not-so-pretty beast reach 190 mph and a bit. That bit is one 1 km/h more than the Urus and this allows Bentley to take home all the bragging rights for now.
We are well accustomed to automakers goosing it out over who makes the fastest supercar but we’re now seeing this trend awkwardly trickle down to big SUVs. Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo was, arguably, the first modern SUV that packed a decent punch but many have followed in its wake with Lamborghini dropping the first Super-SUV ever (as they call it) with the Urus. Let’s see if Lamborghini responds with a peppered-up Urus or not, considering both companies are under the VAG umbrella.

Bentley to Bring a Plug-In Bentayga to the Geneva Auto Show
Bentley is all set to debut the plug-in hybrid version of the Bentayga SUV at the Geneva Motor Show, making good on its goal of introducing electrified vehicles into its lineup. The plug-in hybrid Bentayga is the first model of its kind for Bentley, which has come a long way from its core identity as a purveyor of luxury automobiles. This specific version of the SUV adds to a growing number of variants attached to the Bentayga name. Since making its debut in 2015, Bentley’s SUV has increased its number of available models to include a range-topping W12, a 4.0-liter diesel V-8, and now, a plug-in hybrid.

2017 has been an amazing year for the automobile. Rolls-Royce Takes Shots At Bentley Bentayga, Essentially Calls It A Rebadged Model
The rivalry between Rolls-Royce and Bentley is real and if anybody still doesn’t see it that way, Rolls CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes’ recent comments about the Bentley Bentayga has made it abundantly clear that there’s still no love lost between the two former stablemates. Speaking with Auto News Europe about the upcoming launch of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV, or “all-terrain, high-sided vehicle” as Rolls would like everyone to call it, Mueller-Oetvoes emphasized that the Cullinan will not use “mass-manufactured body shell,” unlike a certain model that he essentially described as a “camouflaged Audi Q7.”
You don’t need to be an expert in the acrimonious history between the two brands to know that Mueller-Oetvoes is referring to the Bentayga, which uses the same MLB Evo architecture that can be found underpinning the aforementioned Q7, as well as the Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini Urus. Apparently, Mueller-Oetvoes believes that the approach of platform sharing limits what can be done on the design end of the SUV, which in turn “undermines exclusivity.” For its part, the Cullinan won’t have that problem because it will be riding on the luxury brand’s new “Architecture of Luxury,” a scalable, aluminum space frame platform that was designed specifically to accommodate Rolls-Royce models. The all-new Phantom is the first model to make use of the architecture though it also won’t be the last since the Cullinan, as well as next-gen models of the Ghost, Dawn, and Wraith, will all make use of it at some point.

Bentley Wants More One-Off Models In The Future
Just when it started to feel like we’d never run out of limited edition and one-off Bentley models, no less than the company’s own design chief Stefan Sielaff has come out saying that we should prepare ourselves for such a future. Apparently, “exploring more one-off, bespoke vehicles” is one of Sielaff’s primary goals now that he’s been named the man in charge of Bentley’s Mulliner division. In his own words, Sielaff said that he wants to “explore” more of these models, where the “only limitation is the imagination of the customer.”
Those who love them some limited-edition and one-off Bentleys should be thrilled about this declaration, in part because of how Mulliner has legitimately positioned itself as one of the best personalization divisions of any automaker in the business today. Recent releases like its collaboration with Bamford show what Mulliner is capable of, even though it has rarely ventured into the world of complete stand-alone one-off models the way brands like Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, and most notably, Lamborghini have in the past. But there’s still time to change that narrative and it appears that time has come for Bentley. We’ve seen what Mulliner can do by stamping its identity on existing Bentley models. Now we’re about to see what it’s made of when it’s given a blank slate and the opportunity to create something entirely unique from it.

Bentley Bentayga Falconry by Mulliner
In its long and storied history, falconry has evolved from being an integral hunting method to an actual sport among the affluent. The practice itself dates back thousands of years and it’s still very much alive today. In a lot of ways, the sport of falconry and British luxury automaker Bentley fall into the same social and economic spheres populated by the elite. So, it wasn’t a shock when Bentley’s Mulliner personalization division turned to falconry for its next creation. This here then is the Bentley Bentayga Falconry by Mulliner.
The one-off creation pays tribute to a sport that’s defined for its exclusivity and the perceptions attached to it. Falconry isn’t a sport for everyone, and just the same, the Bentayga Falconry isn’t for everyone either. I imagine those who don’t engage in the sport or the hunt will have very little use for the master flight station sitting in the trunk of the luxury SUV or the actual perches that come as part of the whole Mulliner falconry experience. If they do find use for these things, they’re a lot more creative than I imagined them to be. But for those who do participate in falconry, Mulliner’s creation serves as the perfect companion for an expedition. It also helps that Bentley used the Bentayga SUV for this project, because as awesome as the Mulsanne and Continental models are, I don’t expect them to be completely in their element in the heart of the desert where the sport is usually “played.”

Bentley Wants More Variants For Its Bentayga SUV
As if being one of the fastest and most powerful SUVs in the market isn’t enough, Bentley is now considering giving its rivals even more reason to be worried about the Bentayga’s rising stock in the premium SUV segment. That or the company is simply looking to stay ahead of the curve as rival SUVs from Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce hit the market soon. Either way, the British luxury brand is looking at diversifying the Bentayga lineup by adding more variety to it with new variants that can bolster the company’s existing offerings.
Word of this development comes directly from the top of Bentley’s management chain as no less than CEO Wolfgang Durheimer told Autocar that derivatives of the Bentayga are important in ensuring that the company continues to offer a wide variety of models for its clientele ahead of the respective arrivals of the Lamborghini Urus and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Among the variants being discussed is a coupe SUV version of the Bentayga, which could position itself as a more premium alternative to the BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. A more powerful GT3 R version is also reportedly being considered to beef up the company’s GT family that’s currently being occupied by the Continental. If these variants do get the green light, don’t expect them to hit the market anytime soon. A likely timetable would be 2022 before we see these new Bentayga variants.

2017 Bentley Bentayga Mulliner
British-based luxury automaker Bentley first introduced its Bentayga SUV in 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with production ramping up in November of that same year. As the brand’s first-ever SUV, the launch of the Bentayga was anything but timid. Bentley frames the Bentayga as the most luxurious, fastest, and most expensive SUV in the world. Indeed, in this segment, it takes a lot to stand out, but even when the vehicle in question is drenched in luxury and speed and totes an asking price approaching a quarter-million dollars, some customers simply need more. Enter Mulliner, Bentley’s self-described “in-house personal commissioning division,” which was called upon to add bespoke touches and even more opulence to the already-over-the-top SUV. Just how indulgent did Mulliner get? Here are some highlights – new color schemes for the interior and exterior, hand-stitched embroidery for the seats, an onboard refrigerator, crystal champagne flutes, custom china cutlery, and a solid gold clock studded with diamonds. Yep, it’s that kind of SUV.
While certainly eye-raising to most, this list of upgrades is pretty much on par with other custom Bentleys we’ve seen in the past. But of course, the British brand is happy to pull heavily from its list of superlatives when describing this thing, with phrases like “the ultimate luxury SUV” setting the tone. Basically, the Bentayga Mulliner is Bentley’s new flagship utility vehicle, slated as the “most exquisitely appointed luxury SUV ever created,” something that “will appeal to owners searching for the pinnacle of go-anywhere motoring, with the finest performance and comfort.”

The Bentley Bentayga is slowly but surely making an impression in the tuning scene. The high-performance luxury SUV only made its world debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and we’re now seeing aftermarket companies unveiling their tuning kits for the Bentayga. Mansory got the ball rolling at the 2016 SEMA Auto Show and DMC has just followed suit with the “Gigante” program that helps enhance the Bentayga’s output to 700 horsepower and 778 pound-feet of torque.
The “Gigante” name is pretty self-explanatory when you take into account the number of modifications DMC made to the body and engine of the Bentayga. In fact, if you go back to Mansory’s own program for the SUV, you’ll see plenty of similarities as far as the scope of the upgrades are concerned. There are exterior changes, interior upgrades, and engine enhancements. Even better, these modifications aren’t extravagant to the point that they take away from the Bentayga’s own luxury characteristics.
That’s not only a testament to the ingenuity of DMC and Mansory, but also to Bentley for creating a product that has proven to be worth all the hype it has received.
Soon enough, we’re going to see more tuners develop kits for the Bentley Bentayga. That’s not a question of “if,” but “when.” For now though, Mansory and DMC headline the list of tuners with existing programs and the latter’s Gigante kit for the SUV appears to have all the tools to be worth the look, that is if you’re looking to get more out of the Bentayga than what it already has.

2017 Bentley Bentayga by Mansory
German tuner Mansory is making the trip to Las Vegas in November, and it’s not going there to take in a Cirque de Soleil show. Instead, it’s headed to the 2016 SEMA show and it’s bringing with it it’s latest tuning masterclass, one specifically developed for the Bentley Bentayga. Needless to say, Mansory is known for building show-worthy programs and this one for the Bentayga is no different. It’s got loads of refinements in the exterior and interior and it has an engine upgrade that takes the luxury SUV’s power numbers up to an impressive 691 horses and 773 pound-feet of torque.
The power numbers and subsequent performance capabilities are the highlights of the kit, but they’re far from the only ones. This is Mansory, after all, and when it comes to these guys, no program is complete without the presence of carbon fiber. This kit for the Bentayga has carbon fiber. Lots of it, in fact. It also has an outlandish interior program that features only the finest in luxury applications and a new set of wheels that were thrown in for good measure.
The Mansory-tuned Bentayga will certainly feel at home at SEMA with all its aftermarket brethren. But there’s something to be said for a tuner that’s known more for appearing at the Geneva Motor Show to make the trip to Las Vegas to showcase its wares to a predominantly American audience. You’d think that the tuner would’ve preferred a similar event that’s closer in proximity like the Essen Show in Germany. Is it possible that Mansory wants to become a bigger player in the American tuning scene?

2017 Bentley Bentayga Diesel
Introduced in late 2015, the Bentayga is Bentley’s first-ever SUV. It’s also the most expensive and luxurious, factory-built SUV in the world as of 2016, as well as the quickest to 60 mph and the fastest in terms of top speed thanks to its brand-new, 600-horsepower W-12 engine. The people hauler is also equipped with Bentley’s latest convenience features and the finest leather and wood trim available on the market and the company’s most customizable vehicle to date. All told, until Rolls-Royce launches its SUV later this decade, the Bentayga is the fanciest option you have if you’re in the market for a luxury SUV. In 2016, Bentley enlarged the Bentayga family by adding a diesel drivetrain, making the SUV its first-even vehicle to use an oil burner.
It’s no secret that Bentley plans to turn the Bentayga into a full-size lineup of vehicles, with both a gasoline V-8 and a hybrid version being in the making. However, the big news for 2017 is the arrival of the Bentayga Diesel, the company’s first vehicle to use a different type of fuel other than gasoline. The reasoning behind it is that Bentley wants to provide a more fuel-efficient alternative to the W-12 Bentayga, as well as reduce its overall carbon footprint in anticipation of upcoming, more stringent regulations for automakers in both the European Union and the United States. Much like any recent Bentley automobile, the Bentayga Diesel borrowed its drivetrain from other Volkswagen Group products. In this case, the engine came from the performance-oriented Audi SQ7. On the other hand, the Bentayga Diesel retained all the fancy features available in the W-12 model, including its incredibly expensive options. Bentley Bentayga Fly Fishing by Mulliner
The Bentayga arrived in 2015 as Bentley’s first-ever SUV. It’s also the most expensive and luxurious, factory-built SUV in the world as of 2016, as well as the quickest to 60 mph and the fastest in terms of top speed thanks to its 600-horsepower W-12 engine. The hauler is also packed with Bentley’s latest convenience features and the finest leather and wood trim available on the market. Finally, it’s also Bentley’s most customizable vehicle to date.
All told, until the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the Mercedes-Maybach GLS hit the streets at the turn of the decade, the Bentley Bentayga will remain the fanciest SUV out there. But, despite the head start, Bentley isn’t resting on its laurels and is already selling special-edition models based on the Bentayga - one of them being the Fly Fishing by Mulliner.
Described as the "ultimate angling accessory," the Mulliner-built SUV is a modern interpretation of the shooting brake. But, instead of carrying shooting parties at hunting events, the Fly Fishing provides fishermen with all the equipment required to catch fish. In short, the SUV comes with a bespoke trunk that houses anything from rods and nets to a master tackle station and a wader-stowage trunk.

Tesla Model X P90D vs. Bentley Bentayga – The ultimate showdown: Video
The latest episode of Motor Trend’s Head 2 Head is quite the battle of braun. It’s the lightening quick Tesla Model X P90D pitted against Bentely’s newest model – the 600-horsepower, W-12 monster called the Bentayga. It’s certainly a fight for the ages… or at least in the high-end luxury SUV world.
A quick refresher on the contenders: The Bentley’s aforementioned W-12 produces a whopping 664 pound-feet of torque, which sends it down the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds at 117.1 mph after hitting 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. Those are supercar numbers, mind you. The Tesla is equally impressive, with its dual electric motors making a combined 532 horsepower and a crazy 713 pound-feet of torque. And as we all know, electric vehicles make 100 percent of its torque at zero rpm. Both vehicles send power to all four wheels, making grip less of a factor.
The Bentayga’s gas-sucking engine makes up for the Tesla’s whisper-quiet demeanor with loud exhaust tones and quick shifts from its ZF eight-speed automatic. The Tesla, on the other hand, provides the ultimate luxury – the self-driving “autopilot” feature.
Though both vehicles have their talking points, one thing is for sure: the Tesla is fast. Motor Trend even pitted it against the well-renowned Alfa-Romeo 4C in a drag race – with another Alfa 4C on a flatbed trailer hitched to the Model X. If that’s not an impressive drag race, I don’t know what is.

Bentley Launches Bentayga Apple Watch App
The Bentley Bentayga is one of the more recent SUVs to hit the market, but it sure is making up for lost time by taking a deep dive into the world of app integration with the release of a new app dedicated to the Apple Watch. Needless to say, the app works only for those people who own a Bentayga and and Apple Watch.
People who do find themselves included in this particular group will have the benefit of pairing their smart watches to the Bentayga’s infotainment system. Simple enough, right? Once the pairing is successful, users can control certain features of the Bentayga, including on-board climate and entertainment systems. They can also adjust the heating, ventilation, and massage functions of their seats, while also monitor real-time information like vehicle speed, distance traveled, and outside temperature. Unfortunately, it can’t perform other tricks like remote starting the car if they don’t have an iPhone that’s paired to the same infotainment system.
Nevertheless, the app aims to provide an improved level of connectivity with the Bentayga. It’s a nice little feature that should come in handy in certain conditions, all in the name of enhancing customer service. That, in a nutshell, is what this app is for. It may not prove to be as useful when it’s the driver who’s wearing the watch – all the info he might need is staring at him in the face – but it could turn into a useful feature for passengers of the SUV, especially those at the back who may be less inclined to exert any kind of effort when they’re sitting comfortably in the luxurious and spacious rear section of the interior.
The app itself is pretty straightforward so those who end up downloading it should be able to learn all of its tricks in short order. Then again, those who are averse to the whims of technology are probably better off spending their money on something a little more to their liking. Care to interest anyone on a diamond-studded Mulliner Tourbillon by Breitling mechanical clock that costs $220,000?

Bentley Preparing Faster And More Powerful Bentayga SUV
The Bentley Bentayga claims to be the fastest and most powerful SUV in the market but apparently, that title, or whatever you want to call it, isn’t ensough for Bentley. A new report by way of Auto Express indicates that an even faster and more powerful Bentayga is on the way, one that will carry the name Bentayga Speed.
Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer talked about the possibility of a Bentayga Speed at the Beijing Motor Show, hinting that it’s a model that we should “expect” to see in the future. Durheimer remained mum on the details behind the model, but a quick gander at the specs of the Continental GT Speed shows that it has 633 horsepower on tap, 11.5 percent more than its standard model. Likewise, the Mulsanne Speed has 530 horsepower, close to 10 percent more than the regular Mulsanne.
Following this formula, a Bentayga Speed could pack have anywhere from 660 to 670 horsepower, further boosting its claim as the fastest and most powerful SUV in the market today. The expected improvements in performance should back up that claim as the standard Bentayga is already capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds with a top speed of 187 mph. Is there a chance that the Bentayga Speed could hit 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and boast a top speed in excess of 190 mph? It’s certainly possible.
If the Bentayga Speed does come to fruition, it would represent a new variant to the SUV that’s also expected to receive diesel and hybrid versions. Given how much Bentley has invested in the Bentayga, a rounded lineup like this one would certainly give the SUV the variant versatility that makes it more appealing to a bigger group of potential customers. Whether it’s someone who’s looking for performance or someone who’s into hybrids, the Bentayga is shaping up as one of those models that has variant for every taste.

Carfection Gives The Bentley Bentayga An Off-Road Shakedown: Video
A little over a decade ago, the thought of putting the words “Bentley” and “SUV” in the same sentence would’ve been tantamount to heresy. But what was at least ironic 10 years ago is now a reality with the arrival of the Bentley Bentayga, the British luxury brand’s first foray in the auto industry’s fastest growing segment.
So what exactly led Bentley to this path? There are multiple layers to that question, but the short of it is demand. With the global economy largely in the upswing, more and more customers are looking for cars that serve the dual purpose of being highly functional and status-validating. Before the Bentayga broke into the scene, the SUV ladder didn’t have a complete hierarchy with models like the Porsche Cayenne and the Range Rover Sport representing the pinnacle of what that market had to offer. All that changed with the arrival of the Bentayga because, well, it’s a freakin’ Bentley!
Granted, the Bentayga still hasn’t earned the reputation of being a segment-changer because, as Carfection puts it, there are still some concerns about the SUV and how it translates to the company’s closely-guarded reputation. Is it as good as Bentley makes it out to be? Does it justify the $229,100 base price? Most importantly, does it come at the cost of Bentley losing its own identity in the pursuit of economic growth?
Carfection sought to answer those questions in the only way it knew how: it gave the Bentayga the kind of off-road exercise that all other SUVs are subjected to. In a lot of ways, the Bentayga is the four-wheeled embodiment of irony. Nobody thought that Bentley would go down this path, but now that it’s here, maybe it’s time for all of us to embrace the change as much as the company has.
Bentley Leaves Door Open For a Future All-Electric Model, Bentayga SUV To Get Hybrid Model
Bentley hasn’t totally closed the door on the possibility of building an all-electric model. The company’s design director, Stefan Sielaff, told Autocar that Bentley’s higher brass has requested its design team to come up with a preliminary sketch of an all-electric model. However, there’s still no certainty that such a model will be given the go signal.
Big boss Wolfgang Durheimer is lukewarm on the idea, having gone on record saying that an all-electric model isn’t a “priority” for the company because it isn’t as important to Bentley’s “brand values” as its more traditional models. But, there is still some room for consideration, even if it’s a small one at best. What’s more certain is a plug-in hybrid electric car, which Durheimer himself admitted has become a priority for Bentley. He even doubled down on that commitment by promising to have a plug-in hybrid powertrain on all of its models in the near future.
The first model to get this powertrain is the Bentayga SUV, which is scheduled to have a PHEV version by 2018. Bentley will almost certainly have a keen eye on how successful that model turns out because it could determine if there’s room for its other models, including the Continental, to receive a similar hybrid engine.
It’s clear that Bentley wants to be a player in this market, but it’s also approaching it with some caution knowing that success could lead to demand for a full EV model in the future. Right now, it’s unlikely that Bentley will cross that bridge, but in asking Sielaff and his design team to come out with a preliminary sketch of a full EV model, it shows that Bentley is at least trying to cover its bases in the event it changes its mind and builds an all-electric vehicle.

2017 Bentley Bentayga
The Bentley Bentayga is the company’s first SUV. It’s also the most luxurious and the second-most expensive hauler on the market as of 2019. It’s also one of the fastest, being second to only the Lamborghini Urus in terms of top speed. Originally offered with a W-12 engine, the Bentayga is also available with a V-8, a diesel, and a hybrid drivetrain.
Even though it has a history spanning almost a century, and some of its earlier models were nicknamed by Ettore Bugatti as "the world’s fastest lorries," Bentley has never manufactured an SUV. Its Continental GT lineup is almost exclusively all-wheel-drive, but far from meeting the criteria for being called an SUV. Those three letters have actually given nightmares to traditional Bentley enthusiasts since 2015, when Bentley officially announced that it will launch a full-size SUV called the Bentayga by the end of the year. Based on the same platform as the new 2016 Audi Q7, the Bentayga is also the first Bentley powered by a diesel engine and a hybrid drivetrain.

At the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, Bentley launched its very first SUV, the Bentayga. Set to become the fastest, most luxurious, and most expensive hauler on the market, the Bentayga just made its North American debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. Alongside the standard SUV, the British firm also unveiled the Bentayga First Edition, a limited-edition version packed with bespoke features, some of which won’t be offered on the regular production model.
Basically, Bentley just created an even more exclusive variant of the Bentayga, which is already labeled as the most exquisite SUV in production. Deep-pocketed enthusiasts will be thrilled.
Although pricing has yet to be announced, the Brits did say that the Bentayga First Edition will be limited to only 608 examples. The number marks the metric power output of the Bentayga, 608 PS (600 horsepower,) which makes it the most powerful factory-built SUV. Considering that the standard model will retail from $229,100 when it goes on sale in 2016, expect the First Edition to fetch in excess of $250,000. That’s quite a lot of dough for an SUV, but I bet the First Edition will sell out in no time. Until it goes on sale, let’s have a closer look at the bespoke features that make it so special.

Taking the time to customize a car means that car becomes an expression of our personality, our emotion and our unique taste as individuals. That customization process has gotten easier in recent years, with some manufacturers offering configurators that let you design your car before you even head out to the dealership. Now, Bentley has taken things a step further with what it calls The Inspirator.
The Inspirator is an app that is available on IOS devices that watches and records your emotional reaction through your device’s front-facing camera as you watch a series of stimulating videos. The videos and narrative change as you react positively or negatively, allowing the app to determine your preferences based on what stimulates you the most. After you’ve finished watching the video, the Inspirator forms a uniquely configured vehicle. In theory, the resulting vehicle should serve as a perfect starting point – with options you would like the most – in the configuration and personalization process.
Keven Rose, a Board Member for Sales and Marketing, has said “Configuring a Bentley is an intensely personal experience; it is a reflection of your personality and taste.” He continued “It provides intelligently curated responses which can be personalized further to truly make the car your own” It is certainly an interesting take on personalization and customization. If nothing else, it adds a bit of fun to the purchasing process. Currently, the Bentayga is the only model that can be customized with the Inspirator, but Bentley plans to add its entire lineup to the app in the near future.

Early next year, Bentley is set to release the 2017 Bentayga here on the U.S. market. With a starting price of $229,100 and power coming from a V-12, gasoline engine, the Bentayga will be one of the baddest SUVs on the market.
However, Bentley’s lead engineer, Peter Guest, has now confirmed that Bentley is actively testing diesel prototypes of the Bentayga. No major details about the diesel engine have been released, except that it will use an electric turbocharger. The technology goes by the short-hand name of e-charging and is also expected to be used on the diesel variant of Audi’s new Q7 crossover next year.
E-charging is a new technology, but it was demonstrated by Audi last year on the 3.0-liter TDI that was available in the 2015 Audi A6. By e-boosting, Audi was able to increase the 3.0’s horsepower rating to 385 and virtually eliminate lag and the lack of low-end torque that has plagued turbocharged engines in the past. The downside to e-boosting is that it requires a 48-volt system to operate, as it draws upward of 7 to 8 kilowatts of power. It’s because of this that it isn’t currently offered on more diesel models. The Bentayga already has a 48-volt system by design, however, as it was needed for the SUV’s dynamic ride system.

The 2017 Bentley Bentayga comes with a starting price of £160,200 ($248,342) and a list of options that can increase that price to more than £500,000 ($775,100.) There is one option, however, that has to be one of the most expensive in the history of the automobile: the bespoke mechanical Mulliner Tourbillon by Breitling Clock.
The clock can be machined in either rose or white gold, while the face can be black ebony or mother of pearl. The face is also decorated with a total of eight diamond indexes. Due to the clock’s complex mechanical design, it also requires periodic winding, so an automatic winding device is also included. Opting for the Mulliner Tourbillon will set you back a whopping £110,000 ($170,522.)
