Tesla’s first electric car for the masses
Say what you will about Tesla – the company’s ambition is undeniable. Founded in 2003, the California-based electric carmaker set out with the goal of overturning the auto industry status quo and hastening “the world’s transition to sustainable energy.” To that end, Tesla’s latest play (and arguably its more important) is called the Model 3. Framed as a more affordable alternative to the highly successful Model S full-size sedan and Model X SUV, there’s no shortage of excitement behind the more compact 3, and now, after countless rumors and practically unending speculation, the veil has been lifted. Following a massive live streaming event celebrating the handover of the first Model 3’s off the production line, it was revealed that buyers get two trim levels to pick from, with as much as 310 miles per charge and a 0-to-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds for the range-topper.
But, as you might expect, there’s a whole lotta footnotes that go along with the above-mentioned specs. For starters, actually getting a Model 3 into your driveway is no simple endeavor. Following a brief pre-production reveal in April of 2016, an estimated 400,000 people plunked down $1,000 for a pre-order, and that means if you don’t have a spot in line, it’s gonna be a while. Then there’s the list of ultra-pricey extras that add significant weight to the bottom line. Simply put, the question remains – does the Model 3 live up to the hype? Read on to find out.

German tuning studio Manhart is mostly known for its tasteful modifications to various BMW models. For years, the tuning specialists have taken BMW vehicles and have enhanced their looks, as well as performance. In more recent times, the company has started branching out and we’ve seen their work on cars like the Lamborghini Urus and Land Rover Discovery. Apparently, they’ve decided that the Tesla Model 3 could use a grille, despite being an EV, and the results are interesting to say the least.

It seems a little unfair at the onset because the Tesla Model 3 Performance is a beast when it comes to straight-line sprints, but the CLA45 did its best to make sure it wasn’t a lopsided race. To make things even more interesting, the Mercedes is tuned to make the exact same power output as the EV; but will the Tesla’s instantaneous torque come into play?
Senner Tuning Squeezes An Extra 10% From The Tesla Model 3 Performance
Tuning cars has gotten a lot harder since EVs have hit the market, and there’s usually no real need for more power, so what are you to do? Well, Senner Tuning set out to squeeze even more range out of the Tesla Model 3 performance. It actually managed to do so, squeezing out an extra 60 km of range or around 37.28 miles. What’s even more impressive is that it happened without altering the better or playing with Tesla’s software.
The big highlight of this tune, believe it or not, is the new suspension system. The stock springs and shocks were removed and replaced with KW Variant 3 coilover suspension. This system allows for stepless body lowering and adjustments to control both the compression and rebound stages. The big point here, though is the new lowered stance that actually improves the ride and reduces wind resistance by around 7-percent on a Model 3 RWD, so you can expect a similar enhancement with the Model 3 Performance. The next step was adding in new weight-optimized tires and rims that reduced rotating mass by as much as 40-percent – something that can increase range by as much as 57 km. The wheels you see here are lightweight Kharma rims from Cor.Speed Sports Wheels. The measure 20 inches and feature a two-tone finish from left to right.
In the end, all it took was a revised suspension and lighter wheels to push the Model 3 Performance’s range to 634 km or 387 miles.

The folks at Carwow brought the old and the new Model 3s on a drag strip to see if the new one is any better than the model it replaces. They have the same power specs and almost weigh the same, too. So, is there anything that can make the new Model 3 quicker and better?
Tesla’s Pettiness Shows in Its Budget Canadian Model 3 Pricing Scheme
As you are probably well aware, a lot of governments offer some relatively big incentives to get people into EVs, probably, well before they would normally make the transition. Government incentives have been a big deal here in the U.S. and even over in Europe. Canada also has a new incentive – a $5,000 tax incentive – but there’s a catch: The electric car in question needs to have a base price under $45,000 and cost no more than $55,000 with options. Tesla’s entire lineup was out of the running, until recently when Tesla dropped the price of the entry-level Model 3 to $44,999 by removing autopilot and cutting range down to just 151 km or about 94 miles. This is where it gets sketchy, and it gives a good reason for criticism.

Tesla Cars Might Be Getting Cheaper, But Supercharging Is Getting More Expensive
Tesla’s pricing for its models is going down, but the automaker is making up from those prospective losses by raising the prices for using its Supercharger network. That appears to be the case after a report from the Aussie website CarExpert indicated that charging at any of Tesla’s 35 Supercharger stations in the Land Down Under will now cost AUD0.52 (USD0.37) per kilowatt-hour. That’s an increase from the AUD0.42/kWh (USD0.30) that Tesla was charging as recently as September. Since 2017, the cost of charging a Tesla in Australia has gone up by as much as 23 percent, and with Tesla’s model price cuts continuing, don’t expect the cost of using the Supercharger network to flatten out, either.

Tesla Autopilot Will Recognize And Respond To Traffic Signals And Stop Signs
Tesla’s Autopilot is about to get smarter now. According to new reports, the brand’s semi-autonomous technology will halt at red signals and stop signs. The feature is still in beta phase, but will be added to Autopilot in the future.

Tesla’s Stock Price Surged By 20 Percent In A Single Day
In a marketplace where companies are finding it hard to compete against one another to maintain steadiness and consistency, Tesla is in a league of its own. The Musk-led company’s stock shot up by 20 percent in a single day, which happens to be its biggest gain in one day since 2013.
The spike happened courtesy of Panasonic’s earnings in its U.S. battery business with Tesla. Tesla stocks are trading at $780 at the time of writing. To put things into perspective, TSLA shares traded at $354 the day the Cybertruck was launched in November, and in just over two months, the prices have more than doubled. Guess it’s time to invest in Tesla if you haven’t already.
People Have Figured Out How To Activate The Dyno Mode On A Tesla And It Has Become A Nuisance Already
The bird is finally out of the cage. The secret is out in the open. Too dramatic, right? Well, it looks like some folks have figured out how to activate the Dyno mode on the Tesla Model 3.

Tesla Delays Some U.S. Deliveries; Costing the Unfortunate $1,875 in the Process
Tesla and controversies go hand-in-hand and here’s some more controversy from Musk’s company. Tesla has pushed some of the deliveries of its cars that were originally scheduled to be deliver this year to next year, thus costing many owners a federal tax credit of $1,875.
During every financial quarter, Tesla tried to push out as many cars as possible to showcase better results, but this time, even the customers were in a rush to take deliveries up to the 31st of December to avail the tax credit. However, Electrek says that several U.S. buyers were asked to either take deliveries early next year without the credit or cancel their orders. Well, it’s clearly not a good situation to be in.

Tesla has now launched a new upgrade for the Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor Long Range that will boost your acceleration enough to get you to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds – an improvement of 0.5 seconds. This news comes less than 24 hours after fine print about such an upgrade showed up at the bottom of the upgrade section in some people’s Tesla account. The upgrade is aptly called “Acceleration Boost,” and if you want it, it’ll cost you an extra $2,000.
