The 5,000-HP Devel 16 Is Alive And Testing, And Boy Does It Sound Brutal

A video of the 12.3 liter beast, on test in Italy, was shared online by one of it’s creators

Rashid Al-Attar, one of the designers of the amazing project Devel Sixteen, posted a tiny video on his Instagram account showcasing the prototype of this monster undergoing testing.

Remember the Mythical 5000-Horsepower Devel Sixteen? Well, Supercar Blondie Just Drove it

Remember the Mythical 5000-Horsepower Devel Sixteen? Well, Supercar Blondie Just Drove it

She’s the first one outside of the Manufacturer family tree to drive this beast

The Devel Sixteen has been subject to some pretty serious controversy over the past few years. After all, a 5,000-horsepower supercar does seem a little…well…. unrealistic, if I’m being nice about it. But, then we saw that video of the 5,000-horsepower engine on the dyno and things started to seem a little more real. The car did debut back in 2017 in Dubai, but that was little more than a revamped version of the prototype that debuted a few years back. Be that as it may, and as crazy as this sounds, the Devel Sixteen is now a true-to-life, according-to-Hoyle, put-you-in-your-seat supercar that really functions and drives down the road.

How do we know? Well, SuperCar Blondie just became the very first person outside of Devel’s manufacturing tree to get behind the wheel and take it down the road. Of course, this is probably the only complete model in existence, so she didn’t get to…uhem… beat on it (giggity), but she really did drive it. And, let me tell you, that thing sounds outrageously mean. After all, it should, right? That engine, which can be tuned to deliver between 3,000 and 5,000+ horsepower, is the most powerful engine out there in terms of supercars or hypercars. To put that into perspective, here’s a breakdown anyone can understand.

1 Devel Sixteen = 3.333333 Bugatti Chirons
1 Devel Sixteen = 3.7285 Koenigsegg One:1s
1 Devel Sixteen = Almost 5 McLaren Speedtails.

Yeah, it’s really that intense, and it does so via a V-16 quad-turbo engine with a custom designed billet engine block, cylinder heads, crankshaft, and camshaft.

Now, the real question is – when the engine’s full power is unleashed, is the car actually driveable? You see Blondie cruising down the road pretty well, but what happens if you get a little heavy-footed? What happens if you want to unleash the fury and drive it like you stole it? And, more importantly, if it’s drivable at full grunt, will it be the first car to break the 300-mph barrier, beating out Hennessey, Buggati, and anyone else with even an ice cube’s chance in hell of ever coming close to that record?

Only time will tell, friends, but it looks like the Devel Sixteen isn’t so much of a wet dream anymore, now is it?

Video of the Day: Watch the 6x6 Devel Sixty Devour a Mercedes-AMG GT S and a Mercedes G-Wagon

That’s one mean, six-wheeled monster

In one lane we have the 2018 Devel Sixty, and in the other, the Mercedes-AMG GT S. The Sixty delivers 720 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque from a 6.7-liter turbodiesel while the GT S delivers a cool 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. It’s a tough showdown on paper considering the three-axle Sixty is worlds heavier than the GT but what happens when they actually lineup next to each other? Well, let’s just say that the GT S limps home with a tear in its eye. Oh, and for the record, it was a bad day for Mercedes as the G-Wagon also had a go at the Sixty and it didn’t stand a chance either. With that in mind, go ahead and check out the video below

2018 Devel Sixty

When the Mercedes G63 6x6 just won’t do

Big trucks are all the rage these days. Not just big, though, really big. The Devel Sixty is the latest six-wheeled monster to the scene and it comes from a company best known for the outlandish, 5000-horsepower Sixteen. The new truck has seating for six people inside its aircraft-like cabin accessed by an aircraft-like door. Devel debuted the Sixty at the recent 2017 Dubai Auto Show, which is a logical place to debut something so illogical.

Detailed specs are few and far between, but Devel does say the Sixty is powered by a 6.7-liter V-8 turbodiesel making 720 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque. The Sixty also has military-style wheels with a Central Tire Inflation System that allows for changes in tire pressure on the move. And in low pressure in the knobby tires isn’t enough to blast through mud or sand, the Sixty has a winch at each end for recovery.

2018 Devel Sixteen

Is this the future of the hypercar segment?

The Bugatti Chiron. The Koenigsegg Agera RS. The Mercedes-AMG Project One. The Aston Martin Valkyrie. The Hennessey Venom F5. These are the names of five of the most prominent performance cars of 2017. Yet somehow, not one of these cars can lay claim to being the most bonkers car to make its debut this year. That title belongs to the Devel Sixteen, thought to be nothing more than a mythical figment of the imagination when the prototype was introduced to the public four years ago. That was back in 2013 when the Devel Sixteen first became “something.” Four years later, it’s more than just “something” now; it’s the real deal.

It only takes one look at the car before you realize that you’re looking at a machine that could revolutionize the supercar/hypercar segment the same way cars like the McLaren F1 and the Ferrari F40 did two decades ago. It’s too early to say if the Sixteen has that potential, but the numbers being thrown around by Devel are completely unheard of. Think the Chiron is powerful by having 1,500 horsepower at its disposal? Well, Devel claims the Sixteen has 5,007 horsepower. 5,007! That’s more than three times the power produced by Bugatti’s latest crown and jewel! Think this current race-to-300-mph is worthwhile to follow? The Sixteen may soon render that race irrelevant with claims that it can hit 350 mph without even breaking a sweat. At some point, the hypercar will have a lot to prove when it finally gives us a taste of what it’s capable of. Until then, we’re going to sit here with bags full of salt, waiting for Devel to show us what the Sixteen is really all about.

The Devel-Sixteen is Here, but it's Still just a Prototype

The Devel-Sixteen is Here, but it’s Still just a Prototype

It has been heavily refined is much closer to production, however.

For years, we’ve been teased by Devel about its 300-mph, 5000-horsepower, supercar and the company has finally delivered at the 2017 Dubai motor show. The car isn’t exactly in “production” form quite yet and won’t be complete for another 12 to 18 months, with testing, but it’s much closer than the plastic, Hot-Wheels-wannabe car we saw a few years back.

The 5000-HP Devel Sixteen Debuts Next Week! Can it Live up to the Hype?

And suddenly Koenigsegg, Bugatti, and Apollo seem a little obsolete…

Remember the Devel Sixteen? You know; that supercar built in Dubai a few years back that gave us the instant impression that someone was trying to blow smoke up our ass? Well, it may have taken a couple of years, but the official production model is finally about to make its long-awaited debut. The venue? The 2017 Dubai Auto Show. In case you don’t remember, let me fill you in on what the Devel Sixteen really is. It was a car that came to the Dubai Auto Show back in 2013 looking like a plastic Hot Wheels car with unbelievable claims of power and speed. By unbelievable, I’m talking about 5,000 horsepower from a V-16 with quad turbos and a top speed that surpasses 300 mph – a feat that may be accomplished by the Hennessey Venom F5 in the very near future.

You can’t deny that those claims sound pretty ridiculous – even the Koenigsegg One:1 is rated at just 1MW or 1,341 horsepower. The new Hennessey Venom F5 is rated at 1,600 horsepower, and even the Bugatti Chiron comes in at just 1,470 ponies. So how can a no-name company like Devel show up to the scene with a car that is said to have 5,000 horsepower and can smash 300 mph really be in the news yet again? Well, Devel may not be showing off the official car until next week, but it has already released some specs on the engine, and at this point, we kind of have to see it – just to scratch the itch that is curiosity.

To top it all off, Devel isn’t exactly on its own either, which really makes things interesting. If you remember correctly, the company teamed up with Steve Morris Engines – an engine building out of Michigan. It’s also teamed up with Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT,) a firm that has had a hand in building cars like the SCG 003 and the Apollo Intensa Emozione. Needless to say, these aren’t exactly no-name companies working on a project that seemed to be nothing more than a marketing gimmick just a few years ago. Keep reading to see some pictures of the prototype, a picture of this crazy V-16 engine, a video of the Engine on the Dyno and full specs of the production model so far.

2014 Devel Sixteen

2014 Devel Sixteen

The Devel Sixteen hypercar was unveiled at the 2013 Dubai International Motor Show and it is either sheer vaporware or the most insanely powerful car we’ve ever seen. According to it’s creator — Majid Al Attar — the new Devel Sixteen is "created with the passion of making this car a legend in the history of super cars."

The only problem is that even though the model dropped cover in Dubai, it’s official webpage remains mostly specification-free. Still, its pretty obvious the new Sixteen features an outrageous design language that seems inspired by the Lamborghini Egoista and Veneno, but taken to even crazier levels — if that’s even possible.

Under its hood, the Sixteen gets a sixteen-cylinder engine that, according to the specifications listed in Dubai, delivers a total of 5,000 horsepower — no, that’s not a typo, it’s a five with three zeros. With this incredible amount of power, Devel estimates the Sixteen will hit 60 mph in just 1.8 seconds and go up to a top speed of 560 km/h (347 mph). If the Devel Sixteen ever hits the market, then it will easily become the fastest production car in the world.

The new Sixten is rumored to come with a price of $1 million — a relative bargain if the specs are correct — and three customers have already placed orders.
