Another distillery owner has gone ahead and broken a world record with his alcohol powered motorcycle, this time, it with the Russian favorites, Vodka. The bike running on this elixir - a custom 1980 Yamaha XS850 and it an impressive 113 mph at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats Motorcycle Speed Trials on August 26.

Indian and the Spirit of Munro missed cracking the 200 mph mark

A mechanical failure led the hot exhaust gases burn Lee’s legs

Driving the Indian “Spirit of Munro 50th anniversary 2017 Indian Scout” Lee Muro and the team were attempting to crack the 200mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats during the Speed Week earlier this month, for the second time.

Unfortunately, mechanical failures threw both the bike and the rider out of the race and left Lee with some pretty bad burns on his leg that were unable to have recovered. The current record by the Spirit of Munro is 191.286 mph recorded at the previous year’s Speed Week.

The team has set a new world record for being the fastest Ninja H2 with the official figure of 209 mph. The record run was a part of the Speed Week from August 11th to the 18th, 2018, the same time where speed junkies from all over the world will land on this 10 mile stretch in the pursuit of holding the title for the fastest man and machine.

In a huge salute to all women riders across the globe, Erin Sills with her team TOP 1 Oil and Hunter Sills Racing (HSR) broke a land-speed record for the World’s Fastest BMW Motorcycle previously held by none other than Erin Still’s late husband, Andy Sills, who set the record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2013.

Setting a new FIM world record of 229.266 mph, Erin Stills rode on a near-production BMW S1000 RR with aerodynamic aids and engine mods, but still a naturally aspirated machine at the ‘Cook Top of the World Shootout’. She overshot her late husband’s record by eight miles per hour.

Indian Motorcycle attempting to break the 200 mph barrier

Aboard the Spirit of Munro 50th anniversary 2017 Indian Scout at the 70th annual Speed Week in Bonneville

Half a century ago, one man from a small town in New Zealand dreamt of setting a land speed record on a 1920 Indian Scout. In 1962 at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Burt Munro’s dream finally came true at the age of 68 and 184.71 mph. This number was finally crossed by Indian on July 16 at the El Mirage 2017 by none other than Burt’s nephew who drove the 2017 Spirit of Munro Scout at 186.41 mph in the MPS-G (Modified Partial Streamliner) 1350 cc class. (Since Burt’s record was on an SA 1000cc class, his record still stands unbeaten in that class.)

Driving the Indian “Spirit of Munro 50th anniversary 2017 Indian Scout” again, Lee Munro and the team is attempting to crack 200mph next week at the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Spirit of Munro Scout bike will undergo small modifications to the intake and fueling while the streamlined body will have minor body adjustments.

Kawasaki has released a teaser video of the attempt this year at Bonneville.
