Indian Man Denied New Mercedes; Dealership Fears He Could "Sell it to the Taliban."

Surjeet Bassi is taking Prestige Motors to court over allegations of racial discrimination

50-year old Surjeet Bassi walked into the Prestige Motors Mercedes dealership in Bergen County, New Jersey on June 3, 2016 thinking that he would be able to trade in his Mercedes-Benz ML350 for a Mercedes GLS550. What happened next ended with Bassi filing a lawsuit against the dealership for what his lawyer claims as “blatant racial discrimination.”

According to The Times Herald-Record, the dealership refused to sell him the GLS550 over fears that he might ship the SUV to the Taliban. The report adds that the transaction was going smoothly as Bassi passed a credit check, showed his personal bank statements, paid a $1,000 downpayment, and switched the new GLS into his new policy with his insurance company. Then things took a turn for the bizarre when the dealership’s manager told him that he can’t sell the car because Bassi was from a “high-risk area” where people buy cars and export them to the Islamic fundamentalist and terrorist organization.

The manager wouldn’t budge on his stance despite Bassi arguing that he had lived in the area for 30 years, runs a medical transport company, and has no connection whatsoever with the Taliban. The Indian national even offered to sign a waiver, something he had done before, promising that was not going to export the car for three years. All his pleas ended up being for naught as the dealership’s manager refused to budge on his stance.

Needless to say, Bassi wasn’t going to take the case of discrimination lightly. His attorney, Michael Susan, immediately filed a lawsuit against Prestige Motors in the in the Southern District of New York on the basis of racial discrimination and a refusal to extend credit under the federal Equal Credit Opportunity Act. Prestige Motors has yet to issue a response on the matter.

2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Plug-In Hybrid

2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Plug-In Hybrid

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class was introduced in 1997 for the 1998 model year as a midsize, luxury SUV that boasted many industry-firsts. The first luxury SUV to feature electronic stability control, the M-Class was also the first crossover to offer front- and side-impact airbags with advanced occupant detection for the front passenger seat. The SUV made its dealership debut in North America as the ML320, which was powered by a 3.2-liter, V-6 engine linked to permanent 4MATIC four-wheel drive. The M-Class became a sales success in the United States, a trend that continued with the second-gen model between 2005 and 2011. A redesigned, third-gen model arrived in 2012, currently being sold in four guises across the U.S., ranging from the fuel-efficient ML250 BlueTEC to the powerful ML63 AMG. As we venture into 2015, when the M-Class is set to receive a facelift, the Germans are expanding the lineup by adding a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, its first for an SUV.

Likely to carry the GLE Plug-In moniker — the M-Class is set to become the GLE according to Mercedes’ new naming scheme — the hybrid SUV made its first public appearance in late October 2014, and our trusty paparazzi were at the right place and at the right time to capture it on the go. Read on to find out more about the vehicle and see it lap the Nurburgring.

Spy Shots: Mercedes M-Class Caught Testing in Europe

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz M-Class facelift just came out for a new testing session in Europe. Scheduled to break cover in the fourth quarter of 2014 as a 2015 model, the updated SUV was spotted wearing less camouflage than usual, albeit still hiding its revised front and rear fascias. The facelift brings significant revisions inside and out, as Mercedes-Benz is looking to build on the M-Class’ increasing popularity, especially in the United States.

The upgrades also come as a response to the recently launched, third-generation BMW X5 and the anticipated introduction of a brand-new Audi Q7. The facelift is supposed to keep the third-generation M-Class fresh for three more years, until a redesigned version replaces it for 2018. But until that happens, let’s have a look at what these new spy shots have to share about the revised midsize SUV and revisit the details surrounding the upcoming M-Class.

Spy Shots: Revised Mercedes CLS and M-Class Caught Testing

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLS out in the open, but that doesn’t mean the Germans haven’t been working like crazy on the four-door coupe.

Scheduled to lose its covers at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, alongside its Shooting Brake brother, the facelifted CLS has been spotted once again by our paparazzi, this time wearing very little camouflage over its headlamps and front grille.

We already know that the duct tape is used to hide the new Active Multibeam ILS LED system — a first for Mercedes — and that the new grille will get only one horizontal bar, but it’s good to see new CLS once again before it goes public at the famed British event.

In Mercedes-Benz-related news, our spy photographers have also caught a glimpse of the revised M-Class facelift. The SUV that’s set to be unveiled in the fourth quarter of the year was caught with a covered front fascia but without the piece that was obstructing its front grille on previous occasions.

Make sure you stay tuned to TopSpeed for the full details on the CLS this summer and for more shots of the upcoming M-Class.

Spy Shots: 2015 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Spied Inside and Out

On the US market since the 2012 model year, the third-generation Mercedes-Benz M-Class is about to get its mid-cycle refresh, which will bring significant revisions inside and out.

Expected to break cover in the fourth quarter of the year, the facelifted 2015 M-Class will gain new front and rear fascias that include not only reshaped bumpers and grille, but a pair of redesigned headlamps and a revamped hood as well.

Although our most recent spy shots show an SUV that features the already available taillights, these are likely to be replaced with updated units once the prototype becomes a production model.

Moving into the cabin, the most important update Mercedes-Benz has in store for the M-Class is a much larger infotainment system placed on top of the center console and a new, three-spoke steering wheel. Both features are already available on the all-new C-Class sedan, and will remain with the SUV until a fourth-generation model is conceived on a clean sheet of paper.

As far as powertrains are concerned, existing engines are likely to receive some updates, but word has it a new hybrid model is also in the works.

Spy Shots: 2015 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Testing in Germany

A new batch of spy shots of the 2015 Mercedes M-Class has found its way onto my desk, making these the fourth set of photos we’ve seen of the German SUV since the first batch arrived in early December.

Compared to what we’ve seen, these photos of the M-Class come with an even deeper camouflage with pretty much every body panel covered in the hypnotic camo. But from what we’ve seen in the past, our initial notion that both the front and rear sections of the M-Class are going to be updated looks to be spot on.

Since the current generation model was revealed in 2011 as a 2012 model, you can notice that the front end has a more elaborate grille setup with more accessible openings for the air to cool the engine. The main grille looks to have been split in half, possibly to create a unique space for the Silver Arrows logo. The headlights also appear to be more rectangular in design compared to the swept back almond look of its predecessor.

As for the rear, it’s hard to make out any distinctive changes, given that the rear lights don’t look like they’ve been changed. But a particularly interesting tweak are the twin-tailpipes that are now on the front passenger side of the SUV.

2013 Mercedes ML350 BlueTEC 4MATIC 1st Anniversary Edition

2013 Mercedes ML350 BlueTEC 4MATIC 1st Anniversary Edition

Japan has become the apple of Mercedes’ eye recently with numerous special edition and anniversary models hitting Japanese dealers.

Now, it’s the turn of the Mercedes ML-Class. In celebrating the first anniversary of the Mercedes SUV in Japan, the German automaker decided to unveil a unique ML350 BlueTEC 4MATIC 1st Anniversary Edition. It’s an exclusive model for the Japanese market, which goes to show how much love and attention Mercedes has for that country.

Distinguishing the ML350 BlueTEC 4MATIC 1st Anniversary Edition from the rest of its brethren are a number of aesthetic and aerodynamic modifications. For starters, the 100-unit model is available in either an Obsidian Black or Diamond White Metallic finish. In addition, the SUV is equipped with an AMG Styling package that includes a bevy of new components, including modified bumpers, revised side skirts, and a set of 20-inch alloy wheels. Stainless-steel running boards and privacy glass were also added to the special edition model, justifying its label as a unique SUV for the fine folks of Japan.

Interior mods were kept at a minimum, although you can still enjoy the addition of AMG sports seats, an AMG steering wheel, special floor mats, stainless-steel pedals and a brushed aluminum trim.

Power still comes in the form of a 3.0-liter V-6 engine that produces 258 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque while mated to a 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission and a 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

The ML350 BlueTEC 4MATIC 1st Anniversary Edition will be limited to just 100 units with pricing set at ¥8.6 million, which is about $88,065 based on current exchange rates.

2013 Mercedes-Benz ML Widebody By German Special Customs

2013 Mercedes-Benz ML Widebody By German Special Customs

The latest Mercedes-Benz ML Widebody design from German Special Customs dramatically increases the road presence of this midsize SUV. From looking well below the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 in the styling stakes — to flexing its guns and eating Cayenne Turbos for breakfast.

The Mercedes-Benz ML is a relatively unloved member of the range, albeit representing one of the biggest growth segments in the premium car industry. Even the butch square skid plates of the ML63 AMG are a still bit too Jurassic Park 3 for some people.

The German Special Customs upgrade includes a full fender extension kit, revised racing bumpers with deep air vanes and ducts for cooling, and air suspension to lower or raise the ride height on the standard 22-inch wheels.

A new hood brings a massive air duct ahead of the engine block, both venting excess air pressure from the engine compartment and looking very cool up close. The deep scoop looks exotic, almost like the Ford GT in how deep the hood cut-out is.

The exterior modifications are matched inside with Alcantara and embossed leather everywhere you look, but the engine itself is left alone.

Is this cosmetic kit the dream package for MLowners seeking more style from their luxury soft-roader?

2013 Mercedes ML63 AMG Inferno Black by TopCar

2013 Mercedes ML63 AMG Inferno Black by TopCar

Last year, TopCar unveiled the ML63 AMG "Inferno". Now the tuning kit was revisited and the tuner came up with a new version called ML63 AMG Inferno Black. As its name suggests, the new version is all about making the ML63 dark.

The Inferno package takes its inspiration from the Black Series model offered by Mercedes and makes the SUV look more aggressive than ever.

We are not too sure if the new Inferno Black kit will feature any engine upgrades, but we assume so, given the original Inferno package was offered with three stages of upgrades. In the Stage One kit the ML63 AMG’s V-8 engine was tricked to deliver a total of 640 horsepower and 722 pound-feet of torque, up from the standard 518 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. There is also a Stage Two kit that takes the power up to 690 horsepower and 811 pound-feet of torque, while the most powerful version — Stage Three — delivers 760 horsepower and 848 pound-feet of torque.

2013 CML Royale Revox by Carlsson

2013 CML Royale Revox by Carlsson

German tuner Carlsson has prepared quite an impressive lineup for the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Next to the CK63 RSR and the SLK 340, the tuner is also going to unveil the CML Royale Revox - a pretty cool tuning kit based on either the Mercedes ML63 AMG or the ML500.

The first update the tuner is offering for the SUV is a new aerodynamic kit that provides the ML with a more aggressive and confident look. The kit starts with a new front spoiler and chrome-plated grille, LED daytime running lights and for the rear a new apron and a new sports exhaust system with four oval tailpipes. Of course that such a powerful model needed new wheels and Carlsson installed 22-inch diameter alloys in five-spoke Diamond Edition 1/5 Revo 2 design.

For the interior Carlsson is offering subtle, two-tone combination of dark grey and black. For most of the interior parts the tuner has chose Carlsson Nappa Exclusive leather and combined it with double overlapping woven stitch pattern on the center of the seats, door inserts and the floor mats.

One of the most impressive feature of the interior is the addition of a new REVOX audio system. It features a 7-channel power amplifier with 6 x 120 W RMS three way speakers and a 1 x 350 Watt RMS sub-woofer.

Impressive updates have also been made under the hood where the 6.3 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine has been updated up to a total of 625 horsepower and 619 pound-feet of torque. With the extra 107 horsepower, the new CML Royale will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 186 mph.

2013 Mercedes ML63 AMG "Rezonance ML" by RevoZport

2013 Mercedes ML63 AMG "Rezonance ML" by RevoZport

High powered SUVs don’t come any better than Mercedes’ ML63 AMG. The German automaker’s resident sports utility vehicle has also become quite the appealing lot for aftermarket tuning companies, including RevoZport.

Adept at building aerodynamic kits as well as performance modifications, RevoZport’s program for the ML63 AMG, called the Rezonance ML, certainly fits into that mold. Aesthetically, the M63 AMG was treated to a new aero kit that includes a twin-deck carbon fiber front splitter to go with a roof spoiler, a finned diffuser section, and 30mm wheel arch extensions that enhances the visual appeal of the German SUV by giving it a more aggressive stance. Fittingly, those wheel arches also help in fitting a new set of 22" bespoke forged alloy wheels wrapped in 335-section tires.

RevoZport also gave the ML63 AMG a pretty sturdy engine modification, thanks to a remapped ECU software and the installation of a new carbon induction system and a complete titanium exhaust system, netting the SUV an output of 600 horsepower, an increase from the standard SUV’s output of 518 horsepower.

2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG Widestar by Brabus

2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG Widestar by Brabus

A few months ago, the ML63 AMG received the Brabus treatment with upgraded performance and a decent body kit. Unfortunately, the 2013 body kit was missing some pizazz, and Brabus took notice.

This time around, Brabus turned it up a notch or two. An interior customization program allows customers to pretty much design how their cabin is going to look. We doubt Brabus will let anybody opt to go for a Hello Kitty or a Wreck-It Ralph theme, but what they do offer is pretty impressive in its own right. The offerings include wood and genuine carbon-fiber trim sets in any desired color to go with a variety of surface finishes.

Brabus took the body kit from the previous rendition and added in some serious upgrades. For starters, Brabus slightly shrunk the front-apron air vents and painted the raised outline pewter. The LED running lights were moved closer to the center of the air vents as well, giving the front apron a smoother look, in our opinion. The coat of pewter extends across the lower grille splitter. Speaking of the splitter, Brabus also moved it closer to the center of the lower grille and made it more pronounced than the previous kit.

On the backside, you get a much more timid kit that includes rounded quad exhaust exits in place of the molded units from the standard ML63 AMG, which Brabus reused in the old kit. Also, instead of the odd-looking trapezoids on each end of the rear apron, you now get a smoother look with chicken-wire-style mesh across the entire length. If there was one thing we wanted to retain from the previous kit, it was the rear-apron diffusor. Obviously Brabus was reading our minds, as the diffusor is there in all of its glory.

Under the hood, the ML63 AMG Widestar carries over Brabus’ very B63-620 PowerXtra module, enough to bump up the output from the SUV’s 5.5-liter bi-turbo V-8 engine to 620 horsepower and 604 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers translate to a 0-62 mph time of just 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph.

Rounding out the modifications include the addition of a control module for the AIRMATIC air suspension and a set of 22" Brabus Widestar wheels wrapped in 295/39 ZR22 tires supplied by your choice of Continental, Pirelli, or Yokohama.

2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG by Brabus

2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG by Brabus

Last year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Mercedes was unveiled the third generation ML63 AMG. Now for the Essen Motor Show, Brabus has prepared the B63-620 performance kit for the luxury SUV. The kit includes both exterior and interior updates, and an extra group of ponies under the hood.

Under the hood, Brabus installed a plug-and-play PowerXtra module and a stainless-steel sport exhaust system with butterfly valve. As a result the standard 518 horsepower output can be increased by either 60 or 95 horsepower, depending on the customer’s wishes. In both versions, peak torque has been increased to 604 pound-feet. With all of this extra power, the SUV will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and will hit a top speed of either 174 or 186 mph, depending on the horsepower number the customer chooses.

With all of that extra power, Brabus just couldn’t sit there and leave the body and interior alone. Brabus installed new carbon-fiber parts, including a new front and rear spoilers, new side air inlets, and a new centrally placed diffuser. The ML63 AMG sits on a set of wheels sized 22 inches and, which come in a variety of designs: five wheel designs, Monoblock VI, E, G "Platinum Edition", Q and R.

The interior has also been updated with the finest leather and Alcantara. There is also a new speedometer added with a 225 mph dial.

Sport SUV Comparison: Haulin' Tail and the Family

Sport SUV Comparison: Haulin’ Tail and the Family

We spend loads of time reviewing sports and supercars that we tend to forget all about the SUV realm. Back in the 1980s, when the SUV was just starting to become the new fad, there were no performance models to speak of.

In the 1990s, we caught a glimpse of out first true performance SUV, as the GMC Typhoon hit the market in very limited numbers. The Typhoon boasted stout numbers, as GM managed to pump a full 280 ponies from its typically underwhelming 4.3-liter engine. To boot, the Typhoon is still competitive today – in terms of speed – as it hots 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds and clears the quarter in 14.1 ticks.

Unfortunately, the Typhoon was only a 2-door model and lacked the typical SUV utility. GMC also produced a little over 4,000 examples, so they were and remain very scarce. What’s cool though, is just how closely matched the Typhoon still is when compared to today’s performance SUVs. It’ll never beat the likes of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT or the Porsche Cayenne, but it can certainly hold its own pretty well, especially for a 19-year-old SUV.

We took a look at the current world of performance SUVs to figure out who is top dog. Click past the jump to find out the results.

On the side, Carlsson installed new side skirts whereas the rear end gets a new rear apron and the addition of a new stainless steel, double flow rear exhaust resonator. Rounding off the exterior modifications are a new set of 20" Carlsson 1/5 Revo light alloy wheels. Inside, Carlsson went to great lengths to enhance the ML-Class’ amenities. Illuminated door panels have been fitted in, Carlsson door pins were added, and finally, aluminum pedals were included.

For the engine, Carlsson tweaked the ML 350’s C-Tronic control unit, resulting in an increased output on the SUV’s 3.0-liter V6 engine, from 258 horsepower to and 457 lb/ft of torque to an impressive 310 ponies and 516 lb/ft of torque.

The last piece of modification for the ML CD35 involves the installation of Carlsson’s C-Tronic SUSPENSION with iPhone connectivity. Using a simple app from Carlsson, drivers can configure the system to adjust the vehicle height by 30mm to the road conditions within milliseconds, ensuring superior ride comfort for the driver and the passengers alike.

2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG by TopCar

2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG by TopCar

Now that Mercedes has officially unveiled the high-powered 2012 ML63 AMG, the tuning birds have been circling the SUV to see who can make the first tuning program for it.

Now it appears the winner is Russian tuning firm, TopCar.

Wait, you didn’t just read TopCar, did you? Those boys who are known for Porsche and BMW programs are actually making one for a Mercedes?

Well, it appears that way after they released a few renderings of what their program for the new 2012 ML63 AMG is going to look like. The program, as you can see from these images, shows an extensive aerodynamic wide-body kit that includes a restyled front bumper fascia with LEDs, flared out fenders, side skirts, door skin panels, flared quarter panel wheel arches, and a new rear bumper fascia. All the materials, according to TopCar, are made entirely out of Kevlar and carbon fiber using vacuum molding technology, which only goes to show you that with all the technological elements used on the program, it probably won’t come cheap.

Performance upgrades have not been announced yet, but knowing these guys and their history for some pretty off-the-wall projects, they won’t hesitate to put some extra beef under that hood. After all, the ML63 AMG’s 518-horsepower 5.5-liter V8 engine is certainly ripe for some bad ass modifications.

2012 Mercedes ML-Class by Brabus

2012 Mercedes ML-Class by Brabus

Just one day after announcing a new tuning package for the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster, German tuner Brabus have swicthed their focus to another model in the Mercedes line-up, but this time, it’s an SUV. The new generation ML-Class has been hooked up with the customary exterior and interior updates, as well as a significant power increase.

Brabus has brushed up on the new ML-Class’ already aggressive stance with a few accessories to accentuate it even further. The use of an "On Road" front spoiler with attachments for the air inlets in the front fascia, new sill skirts, a new rear spoiler, and a dual or quad sport exhaust system support their effort in bringing the SUV to the next level. Much like every other tuning package provided for any vehicle, Brabus also threw in a new set of wheels ranging from 18" to 22," depending on the choice of the customer. For the interior, Brabus is offering bi-color stainless-steel scuff plates with a backlit Brabus logo, as well as matte-anodized aluminum pedals, door-lock pins, and a new foot rest. Adding more elegance to the package is the choice of exotic-wood and carbon-fiber trim sets in any desired color.

Finally, for the engine updates, the tuner has added an ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit that will increase the output from 258 HP to 306 HP and the peak torque from 457lb-ft. to 509 lb-ft. As a result, the 0 to 60 mph sprint will be made 1.4 seconds faster, while top speed will be increased to 142 mph.

The new Mercedes ML-Class by Brabus will be presented November 26th at the 2011 Essen Motor Show.

2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG

2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG

Now that we’ve seen the third generation ML-Class, Mercedes was ready to launch its most powerful version: the ML63 AMG. The sporty SUV was to be revealed at the 2011 Los Angeles Show, but with just two days before the official debut, Mercedes decided it was time to unveil the official details on the SUV. Sales of the new ML63 AMG will begin in the first quarter of 2012.

The whole goal behind the new ML63 AMG was to "bring sport back." At least that is what Mercedes is attempting: "In a world flooded with average SUVs, it is time to bring back dynamic handling, pulse quickening power and most importantly, sport."

The current ML63 AMG uses a 6.3 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, but the new model will adopt the same treatment as all of the latest AMG models: a 5.5 liter V8 engine with 518 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque. With the optional AMG Performance Package, the V8 engine’s power output will be increased to 550 HP and 560 lb-ft of torque.

UPDATE 04/17/12: Do you really know everything there is to know about the 2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG? On the chance that you need someone from Mercedes to give you the proverbial guided tour around the SUV, Mercedes-Benz USA Exclusive Vehicles Product Manager Will Vetter will take you on a two-part tour in, around, over, and under the ML63 AMG. Mercedes is smacked with a Class Action Suit due to alleged V8 AMG defects

Mercedes is smacked with a Class Action Suit due to alleged V8 AMG defects

It seems that Mercedes is headed towards some dark days now that they are facing a class action suit due to alleged defects in the M156 V8 motor. Reports coming in are stating that there seems to be a premature wear that occurs as a result of the material used in the camshafts. Let’s break it down a bit more.

Mercedes’ V8 AMG engines have cast nodular iron camshafts, but the valve lifters are made of 9310 grade steel. The complaint is that this combination of materials is contributing to premature wear of the M156 motors. This can be due to improper heat treating of the metals or improper offset. Seems like an easy fix, but the problem is that the company has known about this issue since 2007 when a service bulletin was released by Daimler, but the company has failed to take action on the matter.

This 6.2 liter V8 engine is used in models such as the C63 AMG Coupe, the ML63 AMG, and the SLS AMG supercar. In these vehicles, it can develop between 450 to 570 HP.

At this time, there is only one plaintiff who is alleging financial losses of about $25,000. Sometimes tells us this is going to snowball into many, many more people coming forward with the same problem. We’ll keep you posted as more details surface.

2011 Mercedes ML63 "Carbon Series" by Kicherer

The Mercedes ML63 AMG. This isn’t exactly a car that makes tuning firms sweat in anticipation of what they could do with it, but German tuner, Kicherer, decided to take a stab at it anyway with their latest tuning package.

Their new upgrade kit is called "Carbon Series" and it starts with a black carbon foil that covers every element of the exterior so that the vehicle looks uni-colored. The Mercedes ML63 AMG also received a specially developed stainless steel sports exhaust system and a Kicherer Power Converter to pump up the 6.3L V8 engine. 2011 Mercedes ML 350 by Vilner

2011 Mercedes ML 350 by Vilner

Bulgaria’s very own tuning firm, Vilner, has graced our pages recently with some pretty interesting tuning set-ups for the Mitsubishi Evolution X, the Mercedes SL 63 AMG, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT600. Well don’t look now but, apparently, these guys are far from finished with their projects.

This time around, the Bulgarian aftermarket tuning company decided to play a little dress-up with the Mercedes ML350, giving the German SUV a number of fancy exterior and interior upgrades. As if Merc SUVs need further styling, Vilner gave it a whirl nonetheless.

Among the features included in their exterior program include a new set of custom LED headlights, new black-chromed elements where it used to only be chrome, giving the car a little darker treatment, and, subsequently, an edgier look to it. In addition to that, the same black-chromed finish was used on the rims, further complementing the SUV’s body paint and giving it a nice black-and-white contrast.

Inside the SUV, Vilner rolled up a nice heaping of Alcantara on the upper part of the dashboard, as well as on specific areas of the door, and the seats. The steering wheel was given an expensive standard and perforated leather trim, while the rest of the cabin was given a leather finish with silver trims to provide a nice and balanced accent on the interior to go with the ambient lighting.

Overall, the modifications did their job in giving this SUV a more luxurious feel. The changes done on the exterior may not be that noticeable from a distance, but once you get inside the cabin, the smell of expensive leather and Alcantara will give you all the assurances you need about Vilner’s program for the ML350.

2010 Mercedes ML500 by Senner Tuning AG

2010 Mercedes ML500 by Senner Tuning AG

Senner Tuning is famous for its customization programs for models like the Nissan 370Z, but this time the tuner went bigger, much bigger in fact. They turned their attention to theMercedes ML500 SUV and created a package that includes engine updates and a new set of wheels.

While a standard ML500 delivers a total of 387 HP and 530 Nm of torque, Senner Tuning was able to perform an ECU-remapping along with adding a sport air filter with cold air intake to achieve a boost in power totaling 412 HP and 650 Nm of torque. The package also includes a new stainless-steel sport exhaust system with trapezoidal tailpipes.

For the exterior, the tuner is only offering a new set of 22" Corniche "Monza" alloy rims and wheel spacers on the front and rear axles. There is also adjustable sway bar links and an Electronic lowering module for the air suspension.

This package seems to be a small upgrade from the package Senner Tuning provided for the Audi Q7 last year. It looks like they took the same idea from the Audi, but improved the power boost, wheels, and overall look for the Mercedes.

The package for the Mercedes ML500 starts at € 9,800 with the price going up in accordance with the tires chosen.

Like all the other Senner vehicles the ML50 is also painted in an amazing white.

2012 Mercedes-Benz ML-Class Preview

2012 Mercedes-Benz ML-Class Preview

We have seen photos of the 2012 ML-Class before, but we now have some photos with most of the camouflage removed, giving us a clear view of what the new Mercedes-Benz ML will look like.

The wheelbase seems about the same as the current version, but we do know that the car went on a diet. The chassis will be shared with the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2011 Dodge Durango.

The doors have new looks with two bold character lines. We can also see new side mirrors and a large angular grille with chrome bars running horizontal. The headlights appear to be nearly the same as we see on the CL-Class.

Under the hood will be a few motor options. Base models should get a 3.5-liter V6, while a 5.5-liter V8 and a 6.2-liter V8 will likely be on offer. A 3.0-liter diesel should also be available, as well as a hybrid model.

Expect the new ML-Class to be around $45,000 when it hits the showrooms in 2011.

Next-generation Mercedes M-Class SUV caught testing

It sucks that this spy video of the new Mercedes-Benz M-Class caught the next-generation SUV in all its camouflaged glory – it would have been awesome to catch the tiniest glimpse of the new M-Class - but at this point, we’re just happy that we finally have video evidence of the car as opposed to all the spy photos we’ve seen in the past.

Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG by VATH

Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG by VATH

As it comes from the factory, the Mercedes Benz ML63 AMG is one of the most powerful SUVs on the market today. However if you appetite can’t be satiated by Mercedes in house tuners, then the aftermarket modification specialists at VATH might have something that is of great interest to you, an all new performance package that not only adds a few horsepower to the ML Class, but also balance out all aspects of the ML as well.

Not ones to worry about getting their hands dirty, VATH’s team of mechanics will pull the heads so that their machinists can open up the air passages with a port and polish before they recut the valve seats so that not only will they be able to flow more air but so that the new oversized intake and exhaust valves will be able to keep the power producing explosion inside the combustion chamber even better contained. With the addition of performance camshafts, the entire package will bump the hand built 6.2 Liter V8s output up to 585 HP, 75 HP over stock. The result of the enhancements is an SUV that can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in only 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 MPH. The ML now rides on a set of three piece light weight alloy rims measuring 22 inches in diameter that house a high performance braking system and hide the upgraded suspension from gazing onlookers. 2010 Mercedes ML450 Hybrid 4MATIC

Earlier this week the German automaker Mercedes Benz started to offer a gas/electric version of their full size SUV, the the ML450 Hybrid 4MATIC. However owners looking to establish a long term relationship with the new truck might be a little surprised to find out that the luxury automaker is only offering the new hybrid SUV as part of a special lease only option starting at $659 per month for a three year commitment and as low as $549 per month with a five year agreement.

Powered by a 3.5 Liter Atkinson cycle V6 gasoline engine assisted by two magneto electric motors and a sophisticated hybrid electric module that promises to return up to 46% better fuel economy than the comparable V8 powered Mercedes Benz ML550. Each of the ML450 Hybrid’s electric motors serve a different purpose. The first is affixed to the transmission output shaft and generates an additional 80 HP and 192 lb-ft of torque allowing the new hybrid powered ML450 to operate as a zero emissions electric vehicle before the gasoline engine is needed for additional support. The second combination of magnets and wound electric wires is dedicated to improving the hybrid’s acceleration and is rated at 83 HP and 173 lb-ft of thrust, bringing the green SUV’s maximum output up to 335 HP and 381 lb-ft of torque. The only downside is that at least for now, you won’t be able to pick up one of these premium hybrid luxury SUVs second hand.

2008 Mercedes R 320 BlueTEC, ML 320 BlueTEC and GL 320 BlueTEC

2008 Mercedes R 320 BlueTEC, ML 320 BlueTEC and GL 320 BlueTEC

In October 2006, Mercedes-Benz was the first manufacturer to commence a BlueTEC initiative in the passenger car segment which was timed to coincide with the introduction of low-sulphur fuel in the United States of America. The E 320 BlueTEC proved a great success from the outset, and was voted "World Green Car of the Year 2007". As a next step, Mercedes-Benz is now due to offer the R, ML and GL 320 BlueTEC in the USA, the world’s first three diesel cars which not only meet the particularly demanding criteria of the American Bin 5 standard, but also have the potential to fulfil the stringent EU6 standard due in the future - and which therefore considerably better all the current, worldwide exhaust emission standards for diesel passenger cars.

The muscular V6 diesel engine powering the new BlueTEC models in the GL, M and R-Class shows that a low fuel consumption and very low emissions are also possible for large SUVs. It has an output of 155 kW/211 hp and develops a torque of 540 Nm. Fuel economy is outstanding: the GL 320 BlueTEC, for example, consumes just 9.5 litres of diesel fuel per 100 kilometres (25 mpg). This represents an advantage of around 20 to 40 percent versus a comparable petrol model, and easily makes the Mercedes-Benz GL 320 BlueTEC the most economical full-size SUV in the USA.

2008 Lorinser ML Black & White

At chess black and white are the antagonists. But not only there the extreme colour contrast between bright and dark brings excitement and thrill into play, as the Sportservice Lorinser ML Black & White based on the Mercedes-Benz ML 320 CDI demonstrates.

Especially the RS9 light alloy wheels painted in matt black magically attract the attention not only through their merely size of 22 inch: Their outstanding design feature is the five–pointed wheel centre with the double slotted spokes. Also the matt black painted grille insert and the darkly tinted back window panes contribute to the grave and aggressive aura of the vehicle.

The forceful aerodynamic bodyparts such as the Lorinser front bumper with hinted body protection, the side-skirts and the rear bumper with the striking exhaust end tips project lots of self-confidence to the observer. Despite these dominant features the ML Black & White appears disctinctly light-footed by means of the white vehicle painting.

2009 Mercedes ML-Class

2009 Mercedes ML-Class

Mercedes launch the new generation ML-Class, a stylish SUV that now has even more distinctive characteristics, and looks even sportier and more powerful. The front end of this off-roader is now defined by a redesigned bumper, recontoured headlamps and a larger, even more dominant radiator. The rear view also sports a new-look bumper with integrated reflector strips, emphasising the vehicle’s width, as well as tails lights with a smoked-glass look. Stylistic fine-tuning and new high-grade materials which are pleasing to the eye and touch combine with a new two-tone colour scheme to add fresh highlights to the interior.

The Ml-Class is being offered in five different versions with output between 190 to 388 hp. The engines, either V6 or V8, both petrol and diesel, are now even more fuel-efficient. And the standard-fit 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission with optimised shift characteristics translates the power from the engines into refined dynamism.

The most powerful model, the ML 63 AMG 4MATIC is powered by a 6.3-litre V8 AMG engine that delivers 510 hp at 6800 rpm and a peak torque of 630 Nm at 5200 rpm. It makes the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in 5.0 seconds and can hit a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

Press release after the jump.

$100 Million Ad Campaign planned by Mercedes

$100 Million Ad Campaign planned by Mercedes

Mercedes Benz has planned a $100 million advertising campaign in the U.S. The promos will focus on the C-Class and M-Class models in an attempt to improve sales figures. This is a new initiative taken up by Mercedes to increase awareness and also to promote the brand.

Mercedes will divert the advertising money to pay for nationwide TV spots instead of making local ad buys.

"There is just so much TV advertising out there, and we have to tell our story in compelling ways," stated Steve Cannon, vice president of marketing for Mercedes-Benz USA.

Competitor BMW, has another way of going about it. It will allocate not more than a quarter of its advertising dollars on TV spots and will focus on Internet advertising, interactive marketing and newspaper ads.

It will be interesting to see if there are any new promos made specially for the U.S audience. The extent to which these ads will effect sales remains to be seen.
