Porsche's Newest Vehicle Handles Like a Boat!

Porsche’s Newest Vehicle Handles Like a Boat!

But not just any boat – a $16M Superyacht

Porsche purists balked when their beloved sports car company began building SUVs. “Oh, the Cayenne will drive like a boat,” sang the collective cry. Well, now those purists can truly say Porsche’s latest product will drive like a boat – only they’ll be begging their bankers to find $16 million as they slip on a nautical-theme pashmina afghan and flippy floppies. Porsche has built a yacht.

Okay, so technically it was Porsche’s design arm, Studio F.A., which collaborated with the yachtbuilder Dynamiq to build a Porsche-inspired superyacht called the Dynamiq GTT 115. The Porsche-styled inspiration includes houndstooth patterns throughout the cabin, the GTT 115 lettering along the hull, and the vertical lines on the ship’s T-top above the upper deck recall those accenting the 911 Targa’s B-pillar. Studio F.A. goes so far as to say the GTT 115 even shares the 911’s lines and proportions. That’s more than a stretch, but what else do you expect from PR buzz?

Not surprisingly, Porsche picked a solid yachtbuilder to associate with. Dynamiq is known for its aluminum hulls and advanced designs. The GTT 115 is no exception. Hinted by its name, the superyacht is 115 feet long. It’s also 23 feet wide and takes slightly less than five feet of water to float. There’s room for at least 12 people to sleep, depending on how the customers configure their cabin. And speaking of customers, there will only be seven. Yep, Dynamiq and Studio F.A. are limiting their collaboration to seven yachts, each with a price tag of $16,7 million. While that’s not surprising, the GTT 115’s powertrain might be. Keep reading for that.

Bénéteau Swift Trawler 30 To Launch In Paris On December

Bénéteau Swift Trawler 30 To Launch In Paris On December

Bénéteau has announced plans to reveal the upcoming Swift Trawler 30 at the Paris Boat Show on December 2015. But before the big day arrives, the French boat yard is giving all of us a sneak peek of the new boat courtesy of these design studies.

The Swift Trawler 30 is expected to serve as the entry level model of the company’s entire Swift Trawler range. Despite its relatively small stature, the Swift Trawler 30 still features plenty of luxury amenities, including a double cabin for the owner and a convertible double dinette in the saloon. As an added option, Bénéteau is also offering a double bunk bed cabin on the portside as an extra option.

Move to the cockpit of the Swift Trawler 30 and you’ll be greeted with fold-up seats and a table that can be reconfigured to free up plenty of space. It’s a versatile setup that adds character and improved functionality to the boat. Safety is also an important characteristic of the Swift Trawler 30 thanks in large part to the high handrails and the asymmetrical side decks.

The design studies of the Swift Trawler 30 should be close to what we can expect to see when the real thing officially makes its debut in Paris. Bénéteau has yet to reveal the engine details and price for the new boat but we shouldn’t wait too long for those figures to be released.

Spirit Yachts Launch P40C Powerboat At Monaco Yacht Show

Yacht builder Spirit Yachts has launched its latest offering to the powerboat market. It’s called the P40C and it’s currently on display at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show. The P40C is the coupe version of Spirit Yachts’ renowned P40, considered by many boat enthusiasts as one of the most stylish and versatile powerboats on the market.

The U.K.-based company is known for its prowess in yacht building and it’s got quite the collection of models to show for it. The P40C, in particular, is another eye-catching example of a powerboat that captures the essence of “style and substance.” It looks the part of a worthy successor to the P40 with the prominence of the enormous hull pointing to the sky. It also has a very capable pair of engines and a cabin brimming with luxury and elegance.

From the looks of things, the P40 lives up to the high standards of Spirit Yachts. The only question is if it drives as well as it looks. Prospective customers can find that out for themselves because Spirit Yachts is making the P40C available for test-drives for the entire duration of the Monaco Yacht Show.

Fairline Launches Targa 53 Open Ahead Of Southampton Debut

Fairline Launches Targa 53 Open Ahead Of Southampton Debut

British luxury boat builder Fairline has announced plans to launch an the Targa 53 Open, an open version of the Targa 53GT that will only make its debut at the Southampton Boat Show. If it sounds like Fairline’s jumping the gun with the announcement of an off-shoot model from another model that hasn’t been introduced yet, it’s because it is a case of that. Still, there’s been a lot of excitement surrounding the arrival of the Targa 53GT so it appears that Fairline’s merely trying to leverage the hype by announcing an open version of the boat.

According to the company, the 53 Open will use the same hull and power trains as the enclosed saloon version. It will receive a large, peeled-back sunroof that allows passengers to bask in the heat of the sun. The deck layout of the boat will be divided in such a way that it creates enough space for a dining section, forward-facing seats in the front, a slab of sundae aft just atop the tender garage.

Prospective customers of the boat will also be given a chance to choose between two or three cabins. It’s Fairline’s way of inviting would-be clients to personalise the cabins as they see fit.

The 53 Open will be powered by two different shaft-driven engine options: Volvo and Cummins. Specific details of these engines will be unveiled during the 53GT’s debut at the Southampton Boat Show but as early as now, Fairline is estimating that the 53 Open will be able to reach a fully loaded top speed of 30 knots on account of its lighter weight than its enclosed counterpart.

Likewise, pricing details of the two boats are being kept under wraps for the time being. What’s expected is that the 53 Open will be made available beginning in the spring of 2016.

Sargo Boats Unveils The 33 Explorer Boat

Sargo Boats Unveils The 33 Explorer Boat

Sargo Boats, known for lusty creations like the 36 Fly and the 36 Explorer, has unveiled its latest pride and joy, the 33 Explorer. While it won’t technically sit at the top of its range - that’s still the territory of the 36 Explorer - the 33 will come with all the bells and whistles of a full-blown explorer boat that can match wits with the likes of the Botnia Targa 32.

From the outside, you can immediately distinguish the 33 Explorer as a real Sargo. The exquisite design work and the long waterline are trademarks of the Finnish brand. The 33 Explorer has a 36’2” hull that stretches all the way around, creating a perfect v-shape that is the mark of an aggressive boat in the open seas.

It also features a rather interesting single-level deck that sits on top of the freeboard, which looks a lot taller than most explorer boats of its size. That gives the 33 Explorer a really muscular look as it towers over other explorer boats of its size. Right smack in the middle of the deck is the pilothouse. Step inside and you’ll be treated to a world of refined luxury, highlighted by matt black finishes throughout the cockpit. It also has an adjustable steering console and an offshore seat that provides extra levels of comfort for the captain.

Step outside the pilothouse and you’ll soon realize how Sargo managed to capitalize on every inch of space on the deck. It’s still comfortable and spacious enough to be able to walk around it, but literally every inch of functional space was used to create an elegant and safe environment.

A similar experience will greet you once you go below decks. There you’ll see a vee-shaped berth in the bows and an amidships cabin that can be configured in a multitude of ways depending on your preference. You can either set up three separate berths with a divan or two berths with a heads compartment. Either way, there’s plenty of maneuverability that’ll allow you and your guests to enjoy your trip in the sea.

Sargo did its homework with the 33 Explorer. That’s high praise considering that the best part of the 33 Explorer is still yet to come. There’s still no announcement on this end, but it’s been reported that the Finnish boat yard plans to give the 33 Explorer a variety of engines, highlighted by twin 400-horsepower engines that can produce a top speed of about 43 knots.

Other engine options, including a single 400-horsepower engine or twin 300-horsepower engine, are likely to be offered as options.

Chris-Craft Reveals Capri 25 Ahead Of Cannes Debut

Chris-Craft Reveals Capri 25 Ahead Of Cannes Debut

Chris-Craft is one of those boat manufacturers that never wastes an opportunity to showcase its latest products. That’s especially important today since the Cannes Yachting Festival is scheduled to be held from September 8 to 13, 2015. With the event drawing close, it was only a matter of time before Chris-Craft would debut its latest offering. As it turns out, we didn’t have to wait too long because Chris-Craft has unveiled the first batch of photos of the Capri 25.

The Capri 25 will make its public debut at Cannes where it’s expected to attract its share of attention. That’s always been the MO of Chris-Craft and don’t expect the American boat builder to steer away from what’s made it such a popular attraction at Cannes.

The versatile daybook will feature plenty of items that Chris-Craft is known for. Exceptional craftsmanship is one of them and the versatile dayboat has that in spades. The vertical bow takes its design cues from the 1930s, similar to the styling inspiration that was used in the Capri 21. The twin helm seats and the bench seat on the aft are made from plush - and water-proof - materials that places comfort above everything else. The two seats can be swivelled 180 degrees to create a nice seating configuration with teak tables that can be folded out. With that set-up, occupants of the Capri 25 can have a nice and relaxing time in the open seas.

Take a trip below the deck and you’ll be greeted by a comfortable cabin that has enough space to accommodate as many as three adults, making any trip with the Capri 25 as pleasant as the waters allow it.

The relative small size of the daybook will be put to good use by a Volvo-sourced Penta V-8 engine that produces 350 horsepower. Chris-Craft has yet to bare the details of the boat’s top speed, but when you combine the size of the Capri 25 with the V-8, something like 40 to 50 knots could be attainable.

The Capri 35 will be shown alongside the alongside the Corsair 32, Launch 32, and Launch 36 at the 2015 Cannes Yachting Festival.

Glider Yacths Reveal Pricing Details For The SS18

Glider Yacths Reveal Pricing Details For The SS18

More details of the Glider Yacht SS18 have emerged ahead of its highly anticipated debut at the Monaco Yacht Show on September 23, 2015. The super yacht that’s been hailed as a game-changer in the industry is set to break a lot of hearts and wallets really soon. But for now, Glider Yachts is content with dropping new details on what we can expect from the SS18.

We already know that Burgess Marine, the UK’s largest independent ship builder, will have a hand in the building and development of the SS18. Glider Yachts will still take the helm in this process, but thanks to a £100 million deal it struck with Burgess Marine, Glider will be able to build all SS18 yachts at a Burgess Marine facility, ensuring that it can use Burgess’ state-of-the-art production facility.

Once the yachts are ready, Glider Yachts will turn over the reins to Inwards Marine, which will then be in charge of selling the beauties at a price that starts at £600,000.
Specifics on the payment methods have yet to be announced, but potential buyers who place orders at Monaco won’t be getting their yachts right away. According to Glider, any orders made during the yacht show can expect delivery of their prized acquisitions seven months later in May 2016.

That’s a long wait for a £600,000 purchase, but Glider’s promising that it’s all going to be worth it. Since the SS18 is its first model, Glider Yachts is pulling out all the stops to make it live up to all the “game-changer” hyperbole. For starters, the multihull cruiser will be powered by four Rotax 4TEC engines, each producing 260 horsepower for a combined output of 1,040 ponies. Top speed has been estimated at 56 knots, although Glider is also preparing bigger versions of the SS18 that can hit in excess of 100 knots.

Aesthetically, the SS18 looks unlike any multihull cruiser we’ve seen in the past. Glider spent seven years designing the concept, eventually creating a proprietary design that includes shallow-draft hulls, allowing beach landings and anchoring in shallow bays. The SS18 will also feature a luxurious interior that’ll drown in chrome, leather and carbon fiber fixtures courtesy of aftermarket interior designer Corbeau.

Dubourdieu Partners With André Courrèges To Launch Designer Boat At Cannes

Dubourdieu Partners With André Courrèges To Launch Designer Boat At Cannes

Carmakers partnering with fashion design houses isn’t a new thing. Motorcycle brands have also done the same at one point or another. But boat manufacturers rarely venture into these kinds of partnerships and when do, it’s almost always of the one-off variety. On that note, that’s exactly what French manufacturer Dubourdieu is doing after announcing a partnership with fashion designer André Courrèges to create a one-off boat called “White Ocean.”

The full scope of details surrounding White Ocean has yet to be revealed, but Dubourdieu has given us enough information to give us an idea of what to expect. According to the French custom boat builder, White Ocean’s design will inspired by one of those classic New England picnic boats. At least we can rule out any sort of funkiness with the design. The boat will have its share of top-grade materials, highlighted by teak decks, mahogany cabinetry, and bespoke towels, crew uniforms and beach bags, all of which will carry the unmistakable logo of the Courrèges fashion brand.

That’s as much information as Dubourdieu has told us, which means that details on the engine, top speed, and if Duboourdieu decides to sell it, price, are all expected to be revealed closer to the boat’s launch at the 2015 Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2015.

Knowing as much as I do about Dubourdieu - the company is one of France’s oldest boat builders and is actually celebrating its 210th anniversary in 2015 - I expect it to unveil a new one-off boat that will imbibe all the wonderful characteristics of the company. That’s the kind of cache and trust you earn for doing something as long as Dubourdieu has in building custom boats.

Quintessence Yachts Drops More Details On Aston Martin Yacht

Quintessence Yachts Drops More Details On Aston Martin Yacht

The hype surrounding Quintessence Yachts’ powerboat project with Aston Martin hasn’t waned since news first broke of the partnership. The powerboat, called the AM37, first made headlines back in April 2015 upon its announcement at a press event. Very few details were disclosed at that time about the upcoming project, but now that the Monaco Boat Show is drawing closer and closer, information surrounding the AM37 have slowly leaked through the cracks.

The most important “so far” feature of the powerboat is the sliding carbon fiber deck cover that can be used to protect the boat’s interior from nature’s forces without having to resort to using canvas and elastic materials. The use of carbon fiber also fits well with Aston Martin’s reputation for being one of the most luxury oriented car manufacturers in the world. Though I’d throw that out there.

The AM37 will also come with a remote control system that functions much the same way as a home using the same system. Basically, you can use this system to control a variety of appliances inside the powerboat, even if you’re miles away from it. Need to set the temperature right with the air-conditioning? No problem. How about chilling some wine on the fridge before you get to the boat? Easy. Get the espresso machine running so you can be greeted with a cup of brew? The boat’s remote control system makes all of that happen.

Keeping in line with the functionality aspect of the boat, Quintessence Yachts also announced that the AM37 will feature a bimini top, a swimming ladder, and a 15-inch touchscreen multimedia and entertainment system, among other goodies. Said goodies are likely to be unveiled over the next few months, but at least we’re getting to see a clearer picture on what to expect when the AM37 finally makes its long-awaited debut at the 2015 Monaco Boat Show on September 2015.

Princess Yachts Adds Princess S65 To Growing Fleet

Princess Yachts Adds Princess S65 To Growing Fleet

Princess Yachts is set to add its newest member of the family with the autumn launch of the Princess S65, bringing another exciting new model to a range that just introduced the S72. Sounds like Princess Yachts is looking to make some waves in the high-speed sportbridge yachts. Can’t say that I blame them since that particular line of yachts is becoming more and more popular these days.

The company wants to take advantage of the opportunity the market’s presenting and it’s got a new pride and joy that’s waiting to be bought by deep-pocketed buyers with plenty of loose change hanging around.

The Princess S65 exudes style and luxury that’s become the norm for Princess Yachts. Three on deck living areas ensures ample space for the owner and his guests while the sportbridge, the garage, and a wide beam all provide the kind of distinctive design that has become a hallmark for Princess Yachts. I’ve seen my fair share of yachts under this brand and I can attest that almost all of them are head-turners.

But the S65 offers more than just fancy styling. It also has a well-appointed interior that features luxury amenities of the highest order. From spacious staterooms to cockpit bars, the S65 has no shortage of social areas that can accommodate up to eight guests. The sportbridge yacht also prides itself on its expansive entertaining options, ensuring that guests can enjoy their stay without having to worry about being in the high seas for an extended period of time.

If performance is a concern, you shouldn’t worry about it when it comes to the Princess S65. Engine options haven’t been revealed, but the company did say that the yacht is capable of reaching speeds of up to 38 knots.

Other than what’s been shared, there’s still a lot more about the Princess S65 that Princess Yachts isn’t telling us. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to learn more about it since a sneak preview of the yacht is set to take place at the Argentex British Motor Yacht Show from May 15 to May 17, 2015.

Mercedes-Benz partners with Cigarette Racing to create SLS AMG-inspired racing boat

Mercedes-Benz has formally announced a partnership with Cigarette Racing boat with their first collaboration being a sexy 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG-inspired racing boat. Powered by twin staggered engines with a maximum horsepower still to be determined, the 42-foot plus boat is nonetheless expected to carry a top speed of over 120mph.

Despite saying the boat take elements from the SLS AMG, judging from the initial sketch of the boat, we’re trying to find a concrete enough semblance to the new Mercedes supercar.

But according to Cigarette – nice name for a boat company, b-t-dub – the new off-shore racer will carry with a myriad of design and development innovations that was made possible by the company’s new BFF, Mercedes.

While we wait for the finished product to drop down in the water, we’re going to reserve our judgments on the new boat, so in the mean time, do check out the press release after the jump for more information on Cigarette’s new racing boat, which is expected to make its debut at the 2010 Miami International Boat Show in February.
