The ultimate road-going R8?

Introduced in 2015, the second-generation Audi R8 was facelifted for the 2019 model year. The mid-cycle upgrade arrived rather soon, suggesting that the supercar might be redesigned in three years or so. The facelift brought a sportier exterior, a mildly altered interior, and important changes under the hood. Likewise, the R8 V10 Plus model was renamed the V10 Performance.

Sharing 50 percent of components with the R8 LMS GT3 race car shown at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the revised R8 looks more aggressive than ever. It’s also significantly more powerful than before, with up to 30 horsepower added to the 5.2-liter V-10 engine. It’s also the first R8 to surpass 200 mph in every trim, including Spyder models. Although it was originally believed that Audi might add a new GT model to the lineup, the sportier car spotted testing in Europe turned out to be just the regular facelift. Let’s find out more about all of that in the review below.

The 2022 Audi R8 Performance V-10 RWD Is Improved In Every Aspect, Including More Power!

The 2022 Audi R8 Performance RWD now comes with a Variable Dynamic Steering setup and 40 horses more than before

The Audi R8 has been a staple when one talks about performance cars. The car comes with a naturally aspirated V-10 that makes us go weak in the knees even today. We are even more emotionally invested in it now because the R8 is about to be electrified and the V-10 engine will be buried forever. The same engine powers the Lamborghini Huracan as well, but the marque is working on developing a twin-turbo V-8 successor for it. But, until the final adieu, Audi will try to milk the machine as much as possible, and the latest updates to it are a testament to that.

Audi has replaced the R8 RWD with a ‘Performance RWD’ model that takes place of the erstwhile entry-level Quattro V-10 model

Audi has made some changes to the R8’s lineup. For starters, the entry-level all-wheel-drive ‘Quattro’ model has been sent into oblivion, which the R8 RWD is replaced with the R8 V-10 Performance RWD. It makes roughly 30 horses more than the standard RWD model that it replaces, and the new power output is the same as the outgoing entry-level Quattro model. Can it help pump up the sales?

The Audi R8 Bloodline Carries On - Maybe Even As An EV

The future of Audi R8 is uncertain, but reports suggest it may become a hybrid or even fully electric by 2023

With a few exceptions, Audi is a brand that makes luxury cars that, for the most part, feature a rather unremarkable design. While that changed in the last few years, one model that has always been exciting is the Audi R8. Since its debut, in 2006, the mid-engine model hasn’t experienced any radical changes. However a few months ago, Hildegard Wortmann – Audi’s global chief of sales and marketing – stated that the Audi R8 “is an icon of the past, not necessarily the future”. This points to the R8 nearing the end of its lifespan in order to make room for something new.

Can the Audi R8 and the McLaren 720S dethrone the mighty Godzilla?

High-horsepower drag races are always a thrill to watch. Even more so to participate in, but instead, I am sitting here writing about it. In any case, it’s always interesting to see which drivetrain layout is best at a certain power level, and once again, Carwow happily obliges. In this case, we have three cars with over 1,000 horsepower that differ in the way they deliver power to the ground – a Nissan GT-R, Audi R8, and a McLaren 720S.

Of course, a lot of that is thanks to the bike, but we’ll get to that in a second. We have a quarter-mile, half-mile, and a third-mile roll-race. It’s a clash between two German supercars and a modified motorcycle and the results might surprise you.

Audi’s famous — and exclusive — paint finish returns to the spotlight with the R8 Panther

Audi’s bringing back the rear-wheel-drive R8 as a regular production model and because — for the most part — we’ve been good boys and girls this year, Audi’s also giving the U.S. market the added treat of a limited edition model called the R8 Panther Edition. The special edition R8 is exclusive to the Land of the Free, and, among other exclusive goodies, the R8 Panther wears a special paint color that Audi rarely uses. No doubt the Panther Black crystal effect paint solidifies the R8 Panther’s special edition status, just as it did on the RS5 Panther Edition that debuted at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. Only 30 units of the R8 RWD Panther are headed to the U.S. where they’ll be sold through select dealerships beginning this month. Each unit of the R8 RWD Panther will carry a starting price of $186,495, including the $1,495 destination charge on top of a $1,700 gas guzzler tax.

You Must Check Out This Quadbike With An Audi V-10 Heart

There’s nothing ordinary about the Engler F.F Superquad

Quad bikes aren’t new inventions. They’ve been around for some time now, and there are many manufacturers — Honda, Suzuki, Arctic Cat, among them — that build and sell quad bikes. But we’re not here to talk about those quad bikes or all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) as they are otherwise known. We’re here to talk about a unique ATV, and it might as well be called the quad bike: the Engler F.F Superquad. While it does fit the profile of an ATV, the F.F Superquad is anything but a normal quad bike. It’s more like a mishmash between a motorcycle and a supercar carrying enough power to make other exotics weep. YouTube sensation Shmee found some time away from his busy schedule to check out the Superquad ahead of its debut at Salon Prive in the U.K., and, as you may have guessed, even Shmee found himself geeking out over this extraordinary vehicle.

You can’t dispute those figures, especially when you race both Audis against each other. So why did Carwow bother to race a TT RS against an R8 V10 Plus? The answer is the TT RS-R, the heavily modified version of the sports coupe.

If You Missed Out on the Audi R8 RWS but Still Want a RWD R8, We’ve Got Good News For You

This Audi R8 V10 RWD isn’t a limited-edition model, either!

Right before Audi facelifted the second-gen R8 for 2019, it released the Audi R8 V10 RWS, which was, essentially, a RWD version of the V-10 R8. The model was limited to just 999 examples, though, leaving anyone who wanted a RWD R8 left holding an empty bag. All that has changed now, though, as Audi as finally launched a new RWD version of the R8 with a V-10, and it looks even better than the RWS since it’s being introduced post-facelift. Even better yet, this baby isn’t production limited, so you might actually stand a chance at getting one. It’s not all peaches and cream, though, and there are a couple of things that you need to know.

2020 Audi R8 LMS GT2

2020 Audi R8 LMS GT2

The R8 race car tailored for those that wear tailor-made suits on the week days

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a great place to go if you want to see some of the world’s most revered racing cars of the past as well as a vast array of modern machinery and peeks into the future. The festival that takes places annually since 1993 on the grounds of the Goodwood House is also the place favored by some manufacturers to unveil their new products. The 2019 edition was chosen by Audi as the perfect occasion to pull the wraps off Audi Sport’s latest creation: the 640 horsepower Audi R8 LMS GT2, the most powerful racing car Audi has ever sold through its Customer Racing department. It’s designed for a new formula of Grand Touring racing that slots between GT3 and GT4 and caters for amateur racers looking for hight output machinery that’s quick down a straight line and easy to manage through the twisty bits.

Audi is a pragmatic company. Audi doesn’t put out a product for a class it doesn’t think will succeed. When Audi finally built a GT3-spec car, the class had been around for three full seasons, and it showed no signs of slowing down with more cars joining in (that same year Alpina debuted a B6-based contender, for instance) at a steady pace. Then there was the R8 LMS GT4, the GT3’s baby brother, its more pedestrian relative that is still tremendously fast (it puts out somewhere between 580 horsepower and 600 horsepower sans limiter, as much as the GT3 car without restrictions) and also expensive.

The RS3 LMS followed suit, the first sedan built by Audi Sport, one that, again, was built to be raced in a burgeoning category: TCR Touring Cars. The RS3 arrived in 2017, three years after the TCR format was first introduced. This is what makes the R8 LMS GT2 the odd one out. It’s the first Audi Sport-built car to be launched before any cars built to this ruleset ever took the track. So Audi must already know that it will be a success.

The 2020 Audi R8 LMS GT2 Is the R8 We Deserve For the Road But Can't Have

The 2020 Audi R8 LMS GT2 Is the R8 We Deserve For the Road But Can’t Have

The 2020 Audi R8 LMS GT2 is a new car for a new class in global GT racing

The 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed was the stage for many impressive firsts and among them has been the worldwide debut of Audi Sport Customer Racing’s latest product, the ludicrous Audi R8 LMS GT2. With 640 horsepower, it’s faster than its GT3 and GT4 brethren but, somehow, it slots in between the two. Audi Sport says it’s the most potent car to come out of the Customer Racing program, and you’ll be able to see it on track next year as Stephane Ratel Organization (SRO) will allow the GT2 class to compete in series like the GT Sports Club in Europe and the GT World Challenge America across the Atlantic.

Racing has a tendency to become more and more expensive as time goes on. The pattern is as follows: a sanctioning body or a championship organizer proposes a new ruleset for a new category that’s supposed to replace an older, prohibitively expensive one. Everyone involved is happy, the new class is launched, it becomes popular, and as it starts to gain momentum, the cars evolve pushed by factory involvement and, in a matter of years, they become too expensive, and we’re back to square one. This is, broadly, what happened with the (still) highly popular GT3 formula that turned, from one category catering for amateur drivers, to one that comprises the bulk of today’s leading sports car and luxury car manufacturers, many of them pouring serious amounts of money in developing race cars able to win on the world stage. Let’s see how GT2 plans to fix this issue. In a way...

Audi Sport Wants the Next-Gen R8 to Have a V-10 But It Really Doesn’t Need It

Audi has a big choice ahead in deciding the fate of its resident supercar

The future of the Audi R8 is still up in the air with no clear resolution in sight from Audi executives who are still debating whether to go ahead with the model or not. There are numerous scenarios floating around that could point to the future of Audi’s flagship performance vehicle, including the possibility that the R8 lives on to see a next-generation model. Some questions still need to be answered, though, before a decision is made, the most pressing of which is the kind of powertrain that will be used in the model. If Audi execs greenlight a third-generation R8, would it go electric or would it continue using the same 5.2-liter turbocharged V-10 engine that’s been sitting at the heart of the model since it hit the market in 2006? That’s a question Audi needs to answer — Audi Sport managing director Oliver Hoffman wants to keep the V-10 — though at this point, is the V-10 engine even critical to the success of the R8 anymore, or is the R8 ready to expand its powertrain horizons?

Audi Will Dilute the Taycan’s J1 Platform a Little More With the E-Tron GTR; A Replacement for the Aging Audi R8

Pretty soon all cars will be identical below the skin – what a sad day that will be

We all now that the Dirty VAG loves to share its technology and platforms among its various appendages – a Bentley is just an Audi, and an Audi is Just a Porsche. With that in mind, we already figured out that the J1 platform that underpins the Porsche Taycan will eventually funnel down to other automakers, with brands like Audi, Bentley, and even Lamborghini eventually placing their in-house designs on top of the same chassis and battery technology. Eventually, real-life cars will all feature the same guts underneath and bodies on top – kind of like remote control cars d today. And, that’s where we’re at now as Audi starts to plan a replacement for the aging Audi R8. In doing so, CAR Magazine reports that the company will take the Taycan’s J1 platform and place it under an all-new body, creating a car that will go by the name “E-Tron GTR.” We already know quite a bit about it, but how will it serve as a spiritual successor to the Audi R8? Well, it probably won’t.

2020 Audi R8 V10 Decennium

The R8 turns a decade old, and Audi’s rolling out an anniversary model to celebrate the occasion

Ten years ago, Audi shocked the auto world when it uncorked an all-wheel drive, ten-cylinder supercar that ushered in a new era of performance for the German automaker. This year, the Audi R8 turns a decade old, and Audi’s throwing a party for its beloved performance machine with a special edition model called the R8 V10 Decennium. Taken from the Latin word that literally means “decade,” the R8 V10 Decennium is a fitting ode to a supercar that played a huge role in redefining the supercar segment. Only 222 models of the anniversary R8 will be available. Each model is priced at €220,000, which converts to about $250,000 based on current exchange rates. Wallpaper of the Day: 2019 Audi R8

The Audi R8, aka the poor man’s Lamborghini, is only a few years old, but Audi decided to give it a thorough update for the 2019 model year. Unfortunately, what we thought was going to be a GT model was actually nothing more than the facelifted model that you see here. The good news, however, is that the standard model is now more aggressive than ever. Adding icing to that so delicious cake is that fact that it comes with some extra oomph to justify that extra aggression. How much? Only 30 horsepower, but that’s enough. Now, every trim can blast past the 200-mph threshold, and it can hit 62 mph in as fast as 3.1 seconds. Today, however, that performance doesn’t matter, because we’re here to honor the R8’s beautiful appearance. To do that, we’ve decided to pick out our favorite wallpaper and share it with you. If you don’t like it, there are a few more in the gallery below. Remember, if you want to know more, you can check out our in-depth review of the 2019 Audi R8 as well!

2019 Audi R8

The Audi R8 set to stick with V-10 power

The Audi R8 set to stick with V-10 power

No, you won’t see a budget R8 with a V-6 anytime soon

After years of rumors regarding an entry-level R8 model fitted with a smaller turbocharged engine, we now know for a fact that Audi’s fledging supercar will only be available with the naturally-aspirated V-10 that we’re all familiar with.

Ever since a leaked image supposedly showcasing Audi’s release schedule over the next couple of years hit the internet, people have been talking about the possibility of a more affordable model to complete the range. Since the arrival of the second-generation R8, back in 2015, Audi dropped the V-8 engine option the R8 originally had at its core.

Now, with most manufacturers choosing forced induction to minimize the size of their engines and the number of cylinders, the R8 would have been a likely suspect of receiving this treatment in the near future.

Fortunately, both the driver of the R8 and the driver of the VW van escaped the ordeal without any major injuries.

Next-Gen Audi Supercar Could be an All-Electric, 1,000-Horsepower Monster

It won’t be a third-gen R8, but the name could stick around for this model

The arrival of the Audi PB18 E-Tron has opened the floodgates on surrounding the R8’s future. The latest whispers indicate that while the R8 will not return for a third generation, the name will soldier on as part of an all-electric supercar that will have as much as 1,000 horsepower at its disposal. There’s no timetable for the electric supercar’s release as the current R8 is just about to start its mid-cycle refresh. If the R8 E-Tron happens “again,” it’s unlikely to arrive at least until the next decade, possibly around 2022.

2019 Audi R8 Spyder

Could it be a new RS or GT model?

The second-generation Audi R8 was launched in 2015 and, despite rumors that it may be discontinued, the supercar will live on for at least a few more years. The facelifted version of the R8 coupe was spotted on public roads back in March, and now the Spyder model surfaced with similar updates.

While notable changes make sense for a mid-cycle refresh, word has it that the Spyder in out latest shots could be more than just a facelift. Audi may be working on a beefed-up version of the supercar that could carry an "RS" or "GT" badge. With the nameplate likely to go into the history books in a few years, the Germans might be looking to give it a proper send-off with a more aerodynamic and powerful version. Unfortunately, Audi is still mum on the details, so we won’t know for sure until the company spills the beans or the camo comes off. Meanwhile, let’s have a closer look at what the updated R8 Spyder might bring to the table.

Video of the Day: Jay Lenos Garage: Audi R8 V10 RWS

The closest thing you can get to Audi’s race car

As Jay Leno puts it, the Audi R8 V10 RWS isn’t a flashy car, really, and it’s a huge improvement over the Audi sports cars of the past. Unlike the other versions of the Audi R8, it was made specifically for rear wheel drive. Less than 400 were destined for the United States with the remaining examples of the limited edition car being spread across the rest of the world’s markets. What’s even cooler, however, is the engine placed behind the rear seats is the same engine that’s used in Audi’s race car. Of course, it’s tuned down a bit to 540 horsepower and 399 pound-feet of torque, but that’s enough for a 3.7-second sprint to 62 mph. It tops out at just 199 mph. Of course, there’s so much more to the R8 V10 RWS, so check out this episode of Jay Leno’s Garage to learn all about it.
