2020 Audi S6 Avant
Produced since 1994, the S6 is Audi’s go-faster version of the A6, slotting in under the even-faster RS6 variants. Previously offered as the fourth-generation C7, Audi just unveiled the latest fifth-gen S6, following up on the fifth-gen A6 that debuted at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. Once again offered in a long-roof Avant wagon body style, the latest S6 comes with fresh and sporty styling, oodles of comfort in the cabin, and a new mild-hybrid diesel powertrain under the hood. The 2020 Audi S6 and S7 Have Been Revealed, and There’s No V-8 in Sight
Audi isn’t giving up on performance diesel engines just yet, at least not for Europe. Audi just revealed the all-new 2020 S6 (available as either a sedan or wagon) and S7, and they come with different power plants depending on where they’re sold. For Europe, Audi has elected to offer the S6 and S7 a V-6 TDI engine, while in North America, Asia, and other markets, these models will be sold exclusively with a gasoline-powered V-6 TFSI.
The original Audi S6 arrived on the scene in 1994. Since then, it has lived on in four generations with the latest model hitting the scene in 2012. The first sedan debuted with what is now seen as a modest 227 horsepower. The model that is on sale today comes powered by a 4.0-liter V-8 that gets fed with a pair of turbochargers for 430 horsepower. Now a few years into production, Audi has decided to give the sporting sedan a bit of a refresh for the 2016 model year and it is bringing the updated machine to the 2014 L.A. Auto Show.
Audi has altered the exterior styling, updated the interior colors and it found a way to coax even more power from that turbocharged engine. The changes are not drastic, but the combined results of the nicer looks combined with the power bump is a machine that further separates itself from its competitors.
As one of Audi’s longest-lived fast sedans, there is a lot riding on the success of this new car. BMW and Mercedes-Benz are not standing still, and they are continually improving their models.

Just like the tiny A1 and the more-powerful RS6 Avant, the Audi S6 is in for a facelift for the 2015 model year, and a fresh host of spy shots have just arrived to help us decipher what’s new on the high-performance sedan. Up front, the most notable changes will include a revised front grille flanked by a pair of headlamps sporting a new LED design. Same goes for the rear end, where a set of taillights will replace the current ones. An all around nip and tuck is also present under that camouflage, but we’ll only be able to notice it all once the production version is out in the open.
All told, don’t expect the 2015 model to change too much, but the crisp body and interior updates will keep the S6 fresh for a few more years.
Moving under the hood, the twin-turbo, 4.0-liter, V-8 engine, shared with the RS6 and the Bentley Continental GT, could see a 20-horsepower bump from the current 420-horsepower output, meaning 0 to 60 mph will drop below the current 4.5-second estimate.

If you want to buy a high-performance station wagon, there are not too many models to choose from, but the Audi S6 Avant is definitely a very good option. In its standard setup, the S6 Avant boasts a 4.0-liter V-8 engine with a total output of 420 horsepower and 550 Nm (406 pound-feet).
Sure, those are rather astounding numbers for a wagon, but this beast can get even more powerful, the only question is where to turn to get a nice boost. ABT Sportsline is happy to answer your S6-tuning query with its performance kit that adds another 180 horsepower and 200 Nm (147 pound-feet) to the V-8’s final output.
As a result, the AS6-R now pumps out a total of 600 horsepower and a peak torque of 553 pound-feet, which is 40 horsepower and 37 pound-feet more torque than the base RS6 Avant. The ABT AS6-R can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3.9 seconds, to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 12.9 seconds and up to a top speed of 310 km/h (192 mph).

The Audi S6 is the only Volkswagen Group model so far to use the revolutionary new twin-turbo V-8 paired with the firm’s twin-clutch transmission. The technical merits of the design allow the S6 to beat the remarkable sub-4-second sprint stats achieved by the larger S8 despite packing 100 fewer horsepower.
The transition from the luxury A6 to the S6 is a comprehensive redesign of nearly all the car’s key mechanical systems and components. The exterior style barely moves forward from the A6 S-line but does include a number of S6-exclusive elements, like the giant quad exhaust system, and deeper fascias and bumpers.
The S6 raises the bar on every aspect of the standard A6’s performance. It also changes the car’s competitive set from BMW 535i and Mercedes E350 models up to the Porsche Panamera and the new E63 AMG 4Matic. For 2014, the S6 has some reshuffled option packages and a new Black Optics trim pack to increase car’s road presence.

The Audi S6 is the rare kind of car that appeals to multiple markets. Business types will appreciate the luxury and style that it offers while the power savants will undoubtedly enjoy the luxury sedan’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that packs a stout 450 horsepower.
But just like any car, there’s always room for improvement and in some cases, it doesn’t have to be the audacious variety. U.S. tuner TAG Motorsports proved that with its impressive program for the S6. You might notice that there aren’t any overwhelmingly exuberant components added to the luxury sedan.
But rest assured, what TAG did to the S6 shouldn’t just be ignored. It’s not all about aesthetics; sometimes, it’s about taking advantage of what the car’s strengths are and improving its handling and performance credentials.

Last month, the German tuner, ABT Sportsline, unveiled the Audi AS6 - a tuning kit that develops a total of 420 horsepower. Still, the tuner thought the car could do better and today it announced a second kit called AS6-R that upgrades the output to a total of 600 horsepower.
In order to get this 180-horsepower increase, the new AS6-R received an ABT Power S kit that includes an optimized engine management and an ABT turbocharger. Peak torque has been increased to 553 pound-feet and the sprint from 0 to 60 mph is now made in 3.9 seconds. The speed limiter has also been removed, which allows the AS6-R to now hit a top speed of 192 mph. ABT also installed a new sport-type exhaust system that significantly improved the engine’s sound.
The car’s exterior has also been modified with the addition of a new front skirt add on, a side skirt add on and a new rear spoiler. All new items were made from carbon fiber.
The AS6-R will be offered with new 21-inch wheels wrapped in high-performance tires.
German tuner, ABT Sportsline, has prepared an aggressive offensive for the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Alongside the RS5-R and the R8 GT-R, the tuner is also going to unveil a kit based on the S6 Avant. In total, the three packages are delivering an amazing output of 1,860 horsepower, so it looks like ABT’s stand is going to be very crowded.
With its new tuning package based on the S6 Avant, ABT wants to prove that even an everyday car can be transformed into "an invincible super sports car."
The standard version S6 Avant is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that produces 420 horsepower, but ABT managed to increase this output by 180 horsepower to a total of 600 horsepower - an output that makes it even more powerful than the RS6 Avant, which delivers a total of "only" 560 horsepower!
Full details will be unveiled during the car’s official debut in Geneva.
If you own an Audi S6 and you are not very pleased by its 420 horsepower 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine, the German tuner MTM has the perfect solution for you. The tuner announced a sweet tuning kit that can increase the V-8’s output to an amazing 555 horsepower, but only you need it.
The tuner installed an M-Cantronic system that allows the driver to deliver the extra power just by pressing a button. When the engine delivers its peak 555 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, the top speed is also increased to 180 mph. For these updates, the client will have to pay a total of €3,499 ($4,752 at the current exchange rates). The tuner also offers a four-pipe stainless-steel exhaust system priced at €3,791 ($5,149 at the current exchange rates).
There is also an air spring suspensions system that can lower the car’s ride by 25 mm (0.98 inches) up front and 20 mm (0.78 inches) at the rear. This update will cost you another €1,737 (about $2,359). The final element is, of course, a new set of wheels, priced from €2,107 ($2,850) through €5,228 ($7,101), depending on the customer’s wishes.
A Brembo brake system is in development, but there are no details on the system just yet. We’ll let you know when MTM releases this info.

The Super Bowl is just over a week away and many automakers are already teasing the commercials that they will pay millions to air as the Ravens and 49ers square off. Audi, for example, has prepared a cool collection of commercials, but only one will make the cut for the Super Bowl.
The commercials have been created to promote the S6 sedan - a luxury sedan perfectly designed for those customers who need to gain more confidence with every mile spent behind the wheel.
The idea behind the commercial start from a very big event in any student’s life — the Prom — and the difficulty in find the perfect date. When dad says he can drive into the S6 to the prom, he gets pretty excited, but the question remains will the car help him find the right date? Let’s find out!

Station wagons like the Audi S6 Avant aren’t exactly what we’d call sexy cars. But even if there’s a lack of curves on the S6 Avant’s design, it doesn’t mean that people won’t gravitate towards it, especially when you have an engine tuner like SKN providing you with options to upgrade the car’s powertrain.
The German tuning firm is offering three set of power upgrades for the 2012 and later S6 Avant, each coming with a significant power increase designed to give the Audi station wagon some serious power.
The stage-one program "only" comes with an optimized ECU unit, taking the 6 Avant’s 4.0-liter TFSI twin-turbocharged V-8 engine and increasing its output from 420 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque to 542 horsepower and 507 pound-feet of torque. With this upgrade, the S6 Avant is now capable of hitting 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 192 mph. The stage-one kit will set you back £2,601.30 (roughly $4,116 at the current exchange rates).
Moving on up to the stage-two program, SKN keeps the ECU upgraded and adds a new sports exhaust system, giving more output to the tune of 551 horsepower and 513 pound-feet of torque. That’s good enough to increase the Audi’s top speed to 193 mph. This kit will run you £3,000.63 ($4,748).
Finally, there’s the stage-three program, which increases the output to 560 horsepower and 517 pound-feet of torque. This program allows the S6 Avant to shave one-tenth of a second off of its 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph), dropping it from 4.6 seconds to 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 193 mph. This kit uses all of the parts found in stages one and two, and adds in a Milltek Performance exhaust system with MOTORSPORT downpipe and intake optimization to reach those astronomical numbers. The stage-three kit will drain your bank account of £3,471.30 ($5,493).
Other than the engine, SKN is revising the S6 Avant’s looks with the installation of a new front fascia, a sporty rear diffuser, a suspension-lowering module, and a set of 20- to 21-inch wheels.

As for the new Audi S6 Avant, the changes done on the car’s exterior and interior won’t get you to notice them at first glance. While there are subtle modifications, the most important difference between the new and old model - as well as all of the other new S-line models - is the new powertrain.
We’ve said it before with the other cars, but it certainly bears repeating. The new S6 Avant will carry Audi’s new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower and 406 lb/ft of torque, roughly the same numbers as that of the new S6. But the best part is that while it’s an impressive engine in its own right, the benefits don’t end with the increased numbers.

Bentley has currently postponed plans for launching any new model or updates for their current models. Instead, the company is moving forward in the development of a new turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that will be used for the future models starting next year. Coincidentally, the same engine will be used for the new Audi S6 and RS6.
The new V8 engine will be offered in two different versions: a single-turbo unit with around 415 HP - used for the entry level models - and a twin-turbo version with close to 555 HP for the speedier versions (like the RS6). The new engine will be combined with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission.
Bentley will unveil the new GTC at the Frankfurt Motor Show where Audi will also bring the S6, but the new V8 engine won’t be revealed until next year, most likely at the Geneva Motor Show.

Audi is preparing a strong offensive line in hopes of achieving greatness in the sports car market. In the upcoming months, the company plans to reveal four new sports sedans to complete their all-star team.
The first teammate will be the S8, which will be launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall. The S8 will feature a new 4.0 liter, twin-turbo V8 engine developed in cooperation with Bentley. This new engine will deliver a total of 493 HP - an increase of about 50 HP over the current S8 model - but will also have a fuel improvement of about 20%. The engine will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and Quattro all-wheel drive system.
About two months after the S8 has its time in the spotlight, Audi will present the S6 and the S7 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The two models will also get the new 4.0 liter V8 engine with an output of 434 HP in the S6 and 464 HP in the S7.
The true all-star on this team, however, will be the RS6. It will also get the 4.0 liter, twin-turbo V8 engine, but with tweaks to increase the power to an impressive 572 HP. The bad news, though, is that Audi will be saving the best for last and we won’t get to see the Audi RS6 until late 2012. The BMW M5 will be able to enjoy its lead in the rankings until then.
What is a high-end sports car? Are they Italian performance machines like the Ferrari 458 and the Lamborghini Gallardo, or are they more sensible vehicles like the BMW M5 and theMercedes-Benz SL63 AMG? We think they’re the latter.
For this top ten, we are going to set the price cap at $120,000, if you can call that a cap. That should eliminate most of the extreme vehicles, but keep the basic Porsches and so on within the limits.
What kinds of things are we looking for with high-end sports cars? Obviously, they need to be fast with agile handling and excellent driving dynamics. The car needs to look stunning with a functional yet stylish interior. It would also be great if it could stand the test of time, so reliability is also a factor.
