The New Audi A8 is here and Wow is it something else
While the Audi A8 has always seemed to wear an understated tuxedo with its sleek looks and undeniable style, the third-generation model has been in circulation for the last seven years. It’s one of the last few models to still sport Audi’s tall, square grille and it’s time for a serious revamp. So, it was no surprise when we started seeing prototypes hitting the streets and the Nürburgring, and now – after a quick peak at the Spider-Man: Homecoming premiere, Audi has laid it all out on the table. As is the usual case with Audi, overall design changes are somewhat minimal, but it does get the new, wide grille, a pair of sexy headlight units, and repositioned body lines that make it even more appealing than ever before. Inside, there’s a completely redesigned dashboard with new technology, updated user interface controls, and it finally gets Audi’s new piloted driving system which allows remote parking and semi-autonomous driving in highway traffic. To go along with this, the A8 gets a revises suspension system that includes all-wheel steering and active suspension. Topping off the new generation is a pair of reengineered, turbocharged V-6 engines that will eventually be joined by a pair of V-8 powerplants and a 6.0-liter W-12 for the range-topping model.
So, with all that in mind, one can’t help but wonder how the new A8 will stand up against the new Mercedes S-Class and the new BMW 7 Series. It’s obviously going to be a tough call as to which is better, but Audi is coming to the party prepared to throw down. The 2020 Audi A8 May Revive the Legendary Horch Moniker as it Rolls into Ultra-Luxurious Territory
Audi will revive the Horch name with the facelifted version of the A8. The current generation of Audi’s flagship full-size sedan will feature an ultra-luxurious trim level named after the long-discontinued brand Horch when the facelift is introduced three to four years from now. The car might come with a W12 engine like previous A8 L models but will not be stretched beyond the L’s wheelbase.
It will be almost 70 years since the last Horch was built, back in 1953, when Audi will introduce the nameplate again as a top-of-the-line trim package for the A8. Akin to Mercedes’ Maybach S model launched in 2015. It will mark Audi’s entry in the ultra-luxurious sector where it will also face brands like Bentley and Rolls-Royce.
Audi has learned from Mercedes’ past error, that of introducing Maybach as a separate brand, and will offer the A8 Horch as just a trim level under the Audi umbrella. It’s also unlikely that we’ll see the Horch moniker on the C-Pillars of other Audi sedans although Audi hasn’t ruled the idea completely out.

New Audi A8 Will Launch Company’s New Dashboard Technology
The long-awaited debut of the Audi A8 happens today, and if the hype surrounding the company’s new flagship model is any indication, we could be in store for a few treats. One particular aspect about the new A8 that’s getting a lot of attention is its dashboard, and just in time for the sedan’s debut, Audi Design boss Marc Lichte is throwing more wood on that fire by hinting at what could very well be the latest innovation to come out of Ingolstadt.
In an interview released by Audi itself, Lichte explained that the A8 will hardly feature any buttons or switches in the interior. In their place will be a new touchscreen display integrated into the dashboard, essentially serving as the brain and command center. Lichte’s comments aren’t exactly ground-breaking; we’ve already seen Audi’s new virtual dashboard, albeit in concept guise when it was introduced with the E-tron Quattro Concept back at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. It’s unclear how much of the virtual dashboard from the concept is going to be used in the A8, but remember, that dashboard featured not one, but three different digital displays that were responsible for all of the vehicle’s operations. All signs, including Lichte’s comments, seem to point to the new A8 getting a production version of this virtual dash. How close the production version is to the concept will only be answered when Audi finally pulls the covers off of the new A8. Good thing then that it’s happening today.

Audi Confirms New A8 For 2017, One Electric Model A Year Starting 2018
It’s no secret that Audi has been performing quite well lately. Despite all the setbacks, the brand delivered a total of 1.8 million cars last year and now aims to do even better this year. So far, between January and April, the brand sold 620,100 Audi models, representing an increase of 4.9 percent over the previous year. To keep things going at such a strong pace, Audi is on a mission to launch new or upgraded models as quickly as possible. These models include the next Audi A8, the Audi Q7 e-Tron Quattro, and a new all-electric SUV.
All three models I’ve mentioned are a pretty big deal for the four rings, but each one represents a benchmark for the brand. The Audi A8 will be the first production model from Audi that is capable of piloted driving at up to 37 mph with what Audi is calling “traffic-jam pilot.” So, the A8 will help the brand transition from partial to highly automated driving, with the expectation of fully automated driving by 2025.
Moving onto Audi’s electrification strategy, there are two big things coming our way. First is the Audi Q7 e-Tron Quattro. It will be the brand’s second plug-in hybrid and is said to achieve better than 117 mpg on the U.S. scale or two liters per 100 km on the European scale. Furthermore, it will be capable of all-electric travel for up to 56 km, or about 35 miles. More importantly, however, is the all-electric SUV that will launch in 2018. It will be Audi’s first fully electric large-series vehicle and, according to Audi, will have a range of 310 miles. It will be produced in Brussels along with the batteries that will power it.

2017 Audi A8L Extended
In early 2016 our paparazzi spotted a longer-than-usual Audi A8 somewhere in snowy Sweden. The limousine had six doors instead of four and looked awfully similar to the vehicle that was delivered to Harald V, the King of Norway, earlier last month, but the German license plate suggested the car in question was a test vehicle. Three months have passed since then and Audi confirmed that it has began producing a six-door variant of its full-size sedan.
Dubbed A8L Extended, the ultra-long, luxury model was conceived as a special one-off for an unnamed "European customer" and development took almost a year. Having received further requests for the custom sedan, Audi is launching the A8L Extended as a bespoke, limited-edition model that will rival offerings from
Maybach.
Details about the six-door A8 and its availability are still scant, but Audi has provided just enough details and photos to learn more about the brand’s first venture into the ultra-luxury market. Introduced in 2009, the current-generation Audi A8L received a significant update in 2013, and by the looks of things, the full-size sedan isn’t due to be replaced until 2017. That, however, doesn’t mean Ingolstadt will rest on its laurels for two more years and leave the A8 unchanged. The German flagship has already received its most powerful iteration ever as the A8 Plus in 2015, and with 2016 right around the corner the long-wheelbase version is in for a few improvements of its own — at least in 4.0T trim.
The model that slots between the 3.0 TFSI/3.0 TDI and the W12 has gained new visuals and an equipment update for 2016, along with a more powerful V-8 engine and a "Sport" badge. The good news is that the upgraded model costs only $100 more than last year’s car, which is quite surprising given Audi’s latest releases stood out through expensive options such as the SQ5 Plus’ exclusive Macaw Blue package — a ridiculous €12,000 bundle consisting of an exterior paint and contrast stitching for the upholstery.
The revised A8 L 4.0T joins the recently updated A8 L Security, which was unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show with class VR 9 ballistic protection standard for customers in need of a bullet-proof limousine. The 3.0 TFSI, 3.0 TDI, and W12 are also likely to receive upgrades by the time the next-generation A8 arrives, but until that happens, let’s have a closer look at the 4.0T model.

The Audi A8 L Security is one of the most exclusive models in the entire Audi lineup. It’s not the fastest or most powerful Audi, but it’s arguably the toughest of them all. It’s armored without looking like it is.
That comes with the territory of a limousine that meets class VR 9 ballistic protection standards, the highest security requirement for civilian high-security sedans as set by VPAM, an association of testing institutes that was established to create guidelines for the qualification of ballistic materials and their “BulletProof Levels.”
The Audi A8 L Security might look like a typical 2015 Audi A8 L, and for the most part it is. The interior hasn’t changed and the choice of engines remain the same. It’s just that unlike the A8 L, the A8 L Security was built with materials that are normally used in the military vehicles, in a facility the company describes only as a “secure, top-secret factory.”
The end result is a limousine that Audi believes is the “most secure” model it has ever built. With all the military-grade refinements it has under that body, it’s hard to argue against that claim.

Audi first brought its four-door behemoth luxo-cruiser A8 to the U.K. a scant 21 years ago, and in celebration, it’ll offer British customers a new, limited-run iteration called the Edition 21. Available in both standard- and long-wheelbase variants, the A8 Edition 21 offers as standard a variety of features found on the options list of the regular A8, enhancing both the exterior and interior with even more luxury, prestige and comfort. Only 121 total will be produced and it’ll only be sold in the U.K.
The car is simply packed to the brim with extras, and customers are sure to feel coddled. However, there isn’t much that the Edition 21 can offer over a well-optioned, standard-issue A8. A few swipes of the pen are all that’s needed to get, more or less, the same result.

Sometimes I just don’t get along with a car. The Audi A8 L arrived in my driveway and it didn’t seem to be looking for trouble. Audi’s technobarge flagship wears its sheet metal like an understated tuxedo, exuding confidence and high quality with every curve of its Phantom Black pearl-effect sheet metal. Yet, by the end of my week with it I was muttering under my breath at just about every single thing it did, annoyed by the prospect of taking it out on the streets yet again.
Which is a shame, because the Audi A8 is a fine automobile. It’s just that sometimes you and your partner don’t quite mesh. No matter how well trained, personality conflicts can ruin any situation.

Compared with the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the Audi A8 has always been the underappreciated full-size German luxury car. Despite playing the plutocrat transportation game rather well and being a more absorbing drive than its rivals, it has always lagged behind in sales. But now Audi is throwing everything it has learned in the years since at the next-generation A8, including electric turbocharging, gesture controls and limited autonomous driving abilities.
The next A8 is expected to arrive in 2017 as the new flagship, and will pave the way in terms of styling (it will take a page from the Prologue Concept introduced at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show), engines and technology for the subsequent Audis. “The A8 will be the next generation of the every successful vehicle model for Audi, so what we are doing is looking at which future technologies make sense for our customers, what do they expect and how can we surprise out customers,” Audi technology boss Ulrich Hackenberg told Auto Express. “The next level of sophisticated technology will be in the A8.”

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, carbon dioxide levels are at an 800,000-year high, but what if we could pluck CO2 particles out of thin air to use as a raw material for a carbon-neutral fuel? It’s not a pipe dream, because it’s exactly what Audi is doing at a research facility in Dresden, Germany. Called e-diesel, the fuel is currently being produced (following an incredibly rapid commissioning phase of just four months) and already powering an A8 3.0 TDI.
Researched and produced in partnership with Dresden-based energy company Sunfire, the only raw materials needed to make e-diesel are CO2 and water. The method works using the power-to-liquid principle and primarily uses CO2 supplied by a biogas company. The secondary source of CO2 is even more impressive: Another Audi partner, Climeworks in Zurich, has developed a way to capture CO2 particles from ambient air. That means CO2 emitted from e-diesel cars (and anything else that emits CO2, including humans) can potentially be recaptured and reused as fuel, making it a carbon neutral energy source.

By now you’ve likely seen the latest concept from Audi, the Prologue. You also likely know the concept is a design study that previews how the next generation of Audi vehicle will look. What’s really interesting is that Audi is actually working in reverse. The upcoming A6, A7, and A8 sedans’ designs were all signed off on before the Prologue was created.
According to Audi’s design chief Marc Lichte, the Prologue is a conglomerate of designs between the upcoming trio of cars, acting like a movie trailer of sorts. “We design the new A8, A7 and A6 models first, then put the essence of all three of them into the Prologue. Every element can be traced into the production cars; some things might be a bit louder in the A7, and a bit quieter in the A8, but it’s all in there,” Lichte said in an interview with Autocar at the LA Auto Show.
This means no letdown in design between the concept and production models. What we see in the Prologue will actually hit the streets. What’s more, the Prologue’s size and shape are a preview of Audi’s upcoming A9 flagship coupe, rivaling the likes of 2015 Mercedes’ S-Class coupe. Lichte also promised more design difference between models, giving each one a more distinguishable look.
Audi will start rolling out the new products in the latter part of 2016, starting with the A8. The A7 and A6 are scheduled to follow sometime in 2017. Expect the rest of Audi’s lineup to adopt the new look in the subsequent years.

Audi is apparently planning for its next A8 sedan to be a better driver than you. Yep, Audi’s Head of Product and Technology Communications Stefan Moser told Motoring the upcoming 2017 Audi A8 will be fully autonomous, capable of driving completely on its own.
"If we have a proper system it will always be better than human beings," he said. "They are not phoning, not looking at pretty girls, no distractions."
Moser also commented on Audi’s commitment to being the first automaker to bring such a comprehensive system to the marketplace. Now it is just a matter of letting the legislation catch up with the technology, he continues.
Besides changing the laws on the books, Audi must ensure its autonomous driving systems will work in every situation and every weather condition. "The camera system is not able to always do everything. We have also lasers; we will have more sensors too. With a laser you can see in fog, for instance," Moser told Motoring.
Audi has already made history with the recent lapping of Hockenheim racetrack with a driver-free RS 7. The public demonstration went perfectly to plan, showcasing Audi’s self-driving technology.
Currently, cars in Germany are restricted by law to only allow roughly 10 seconds of autonomous driving at a time, requiring input from the driver at each interval. Now thanks to some states in the U.S., Audi will have the chance to bring self-driving cars to market without hindrance. As time progresses, laws limiting self-driving cars will surely change and the restrictions will fall.

The Audi A8 may be a luxury car by appearance, but it has a lot more to offer than just its good looks. Any aftermarket company that has built tuning programs for the A8 will attest to this, none more profoundly than Senner Tuning. The German aftermarket company has built programs for a wide range of Audi models. This time around, it has set its sights on the four rings’ flagship luxury sedan.
Admittedly, the program lacks the visual appeal that Senner Tuning’s other Audi programs have had. But that isn’t a reason to gripe. This kit is all about polishing the luxury sedan’s performance credentials, which has plenty of room for improvement. That’s what Senner Tuning zeroed in on, and the results are pretty impressive.
To be fair, the program does have some visual upgrades if you can even describe an LED number plate lighting as a “visual upgrade." But for the most part, Senner Tuning decided to focus on the A8’s engine and in doing so, gave it enough of an upgrade to be more formidable on the road. The A8 is more than just class and luxury, folks. Look no further than this program Senner Tuning developed for the A8 as proof of that.
The entire program costs around €9,500, including VAT. Based on the exchange rate on 9/18/2014, that price translates to about $12,250.

The A8 has been the flagship model of the entire Audi range since its arrival back in 1994. Now in its third generation, the A8 continues to carry the “Four Rings” flag to greater and greater heights. Word has it that the A8 is getting a new engine that will make good use of the company’s new 3.0-liter, V-6, e-tron drivetrain.
Auto Express is reporting that the A8 will be the first recipient of a new e-tron hybrid system combined with a 3.0-liter, V-6, diesel mill. This system is similar to the one Audi dropped into the A3 e-tron Sportback, albeit with a more powerful V-6 to complement the electric motor.
Audi technical boss Dr Ulrich Hackenberg confirmed to Auto Express that this new setup will be used on the automaker’s larger models with the A8 getting first dibs on it.
It’s another huge step in the company’s quest to produce more sustainable vehicles in the future. Having an electric motor to complement the V-6 should make the A8 more fuel efficient without compromising its already stout performance numbers.
The new A8 e-tron is expected to carry 368 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque with an all-electric range of 30 miles. The range is similar to other luxury hybrid models on the market, including the Panamera S-E Hybrid and its 22-mile, EV-only range.
Expect the A8 to be the first model to receive the 3.0-liter e-tron powertrain with the A6 and the Q7 and others following suit at a later date.
It’s an exciting time for Audi as it ventures into new territory with its bigger models. If the A8 e-tron succeeds, look for the company to set its sights on expanding the engine’s reach into other models sooner than later.

Did the 2015 A8 just eat something sour, or is the A8 pouting while the Panamera soaks up all the praise within the hyper-competitive VW Group? Whatever the reason, all is not well with the new Audi flagship’s facial expression.
The 2015 Audi A8 made its public debut at Frankfurt Auto Show this week, where the new A8 range benefits from a facelift, and detail tech refinements for safety and efficiency.
The latest A8 range is larger than ever, with a much broader range of models coming to American Audi dealers in spring 2014. The U.S.-market A8 range will add a Hybrid front-wheel-drive option for the 2015 model year, as well as the current V-6, V-8 and W-12 engine choices.
Audi’s potent 3.0-liter TDI also joined the A8 line for the 2014 model year, and is available now. The engines for 2015 all feature mild output and performance tweaks, which are aimed at improved acceleration stats as well as fuel economy.
The bulk of the A8 volume in America is expected to still be the firm’s advanced 3.0-liter and 4.0-liter gasoline V-8 engines, each paired with quattro AWD as standard equipment. Short and long wheelbase choices are available, with prices that are expected to range from $76,000 to $88,000, before options.
The A8’s facelift brings an even more serious and technical appearance to the nose, with scowling LED running lights that look meaner than a junkyard dog. Part of the advanced debut of the A8 is to allow time for NHTSA approval of the all-new Matrix LED forward lighting system. Bundled with the A8’s new active safety technology, the LED style statement can actually be a key selling point for some buyers.
This facelift for the A8 leaves a number of issues from the previous model unresolved, which is not great, considering the strength of the latest Jaguar XJ and the brand-new S-Class.
Updated 06/04/2014: Audi today announced prices for the newly redesigned 2015 A8 model line which will arrive at dealerships this month. Prices will range from $77,400 for the base version to $137,900 for the A8 L W12 version.

Yesterday, Mercedes launched the S600, which is the most flagship model in its S-Class lineup. Now, Audi has some news on its own flagship sedan, as it is set to reveal the 2014 A8 L Security. One of the most exclusive model in Audi’s lineup, the new A8 L Security is certified by the German Ballistics Testing Center in Munich, and offers bullet protection according to the VR 7 ballistic standard.
In order to deliver this amount of protection, the new A8 L Security is built from aluminum according to the Audi Space Frame (ASF) principle, and the occupant is built uwith heat-formed armor steel, aramide fabric, ceramic, a special aluminum alloy and multi-laminated glass.
Also, for the car’s windows, windshield and rear window, Audi used a special kind of glass with a splinter-inhibiting polycarbonate layer on the inside. The new A8 L Security was also equipped with an intercom system that allows to communicate with the outside world with the windows shut.

Don’t let the name fool you, this is not a real A8 concept car, but a limited-edition model that the German automaker developed in cooperation with Italian designer-furniture maker Poltrona Frau. Once Audi releases the new A8 Exclusive Concept in March 2014, it will be limited to only 50 units. .
This limited edition is based on the A8 L W12 model and as you probably guessed, it features an exclusive interior. Audi decided to use a special Agatha cognac-colored aniline leather from Poltrona Frau. Another cool feature is the diamond quilting on the center section of the seats and the inlays made of fine-grain olive ash natural silver brown.
Those two elegant features are combined with granite-gray stitching, piping and central pleat on the seats. this granite grey also gets use on the steering wheel, the door top shoulders and the upper section of the instrument panel.
The model also received a white Alcantara headliner and cognac brown Alcantara on the rear package shelf.

Deep in the press preview of next month’s public reveal of the 2015 Audi A8 facelift, a nugget of very newsworthy information is buried: the 2015 A8 will be offered as a four-cylinder, front-drive hybrid for the first time.
Ditching the quattro all-wheel-drive that is otherwise an A8 standard feature, the A8 Hybrid model is important for a number of reasons. First off, it is a full hybrid with a Li-ion battery pack in the trunk allowing brief EV-only driving.
Secondly, it uses a small and powerful gasoline engine as the primary drivetrain, eschewing the intellectual preference for diesel-electric hybrids from the European luxury brands. This gasoline setup means its performance and economy will be highly tailored to the American and Chinese markets, with arrival in U.S. dealers with the rest of the remodeled A8 gang next spring.
The major reason this car is important is of course its primary USP: fuel economy. With a quoted 37 mpg on the U.S. cycle, the A8 Hybrid will comfortably be able to add 10 mpg to the fuel economy of the second-most-efficient (U.S.) engine: the supercharged quattro V-6 A8 3.0 TFSI.
All the A8’s rich and formal styling, LED lighting and interior tech upgrades promise a new A8 experience, but with a relaxed drive more along the lines of the Lexus ES350h than any previous exec hybrid from Germany. Previous eco-themed limousine models from BMW and Mercedes for the American market, like the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 and Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid, were both total sales failures with almost no economy incentive for buyers.

Audi revealed the 2015 A8 L W12 facelift yesterday, and mild is the right description. This mid-cycle refresh brings improved performance, fuel mileage and technology, but little styling change outside. New adaptive Matrix LED headlights and a broader panel of LED brake lights appear out back, while scrolling sequential LED turn signals add some R8 flair to this long-wheelbase executive flagship.
This A8 L W12 quattro barely needs any extra charm school, but its nose now features a metallic mesh grille for the center shield as well as the lower air intake ducts. It is a nice touch that is subtle enough to make the W-12 unique versus its lesser siblings: the A8 TFSI, TDI or Hybrid models.
This debut for the 2015 Audi A8 is in advance of its public display next month at the Frankfurt auto show, where the A8 will be part of an extravaganza of new models from the German auto giants.
In the ultra-limo category of this 12-cylinder model, the A8 is actually far more understated and anonymous than piloting a Bentley Flying Spur or Porsche Panamera Turbo Executive, the new long-wheelbase version aimed at Chinese businessmen. It takes a closer look or a truly eagle-eyed car guy to know that this monster luxury limo is not another everyday Audi A4.

At the end of July, Audi dropped the first teaser video for a new model that will make its world debut in September at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Today, Audi unveiled a new teaser video that comes with the promise that the first details on the new model will be unveiled on August 21, 2013.
In both teaser videos, Audi said nothing about what model is hiding under the covers. The only thing that Audi let us know is that these are two "new" models. Despite the relative lack of information, we are pretty certain that this is the revised A8.
What make us assume that this is the A8? Well, the model hiding under the silk cloth seems to be a sedan and the only sedan that Audi has tested in the past few months is, of course, the updated A8.
But we will see if we were right in just a few days. Stay tuned!
The 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show is still about two months away, but Audi decided it’s never to early to make us start wondering what automotive fruit this show will bear. Today, Audi released the first teaser video that gives us a glimpse of a new model that will be revealed to the world at the end of September in Frankfurt.
Until then however, the model will make its online debut on August 21st, 2013. While no other details have been offered, the video clearly shows a sleek sedan hiding under that silk sheet.
The only Audi sedan that we know is set for a revision is the A8, so we are leaning toward this being that revised model. Our spy photographers have caught the revised A8 testing several times in the past few weeks, and the few details we have on it reveal that it will be offered with Matrix LED headlights that use 25 individual diodes.
Then again, that phrase "new model" may mean an all-new model to the lineup. We’re not too sure where in Audi’s lineup it could stuff a new sedan, but the German luxury automaker always seems to dig up a new segment.

The third-generation Audi A8 has been around since 2009 and since then, we’ve seen numerous facelifts and upgrades attributed to the German automaker’s resident high-class luxury sedan.
For the 2014 model, the A8 has again been treated to a number of revisions, which include similar updates made to the rest of the Audi lineup, including subtle but still noticeable tweaks to the front bumper and front grille. Similarly, Audi’s famous LED lighting technology can still be found on the A8, albeit with its own set of minor modifications.
As far as the powertrain, the 2014 A8 still features the same pair of engine options found on the 2013 model: a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 that develops 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque and a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 that produces 420 horsepower and 444 pound-feet of torque for the 4.0T.
These upgrades are expected to bolster the A8’s standing in the competitive luxury-class segment. They’re much needed, in our opinion, given that the BMW 7-Series is still pushing strong and Mercedes has just launched the next-generation S-Class.

Last month, the2014 Audi A8 was caught testing for the first time on the public roads in Germany. Today, the car changed landscapes and went for high-altitude testing in the Alps.
Just like in the previous testing session, Audi chose to heavily camouflage this A8 prototype; but even so, we expect to see the same updates that we have seen in all of the recently launched Audi models.
These updates will include: new headlight units; new grille; and small changes to the bumper. On the rear, the revisions include: new taillights and a revised bumper. The interior will also receive some small updates, plus an updated infotainment system.
Under the hood, Audi will focus on reducing fuel consumption and lowering CO2 emissions.
We expect the revised Audi A8 to be unveiled in September at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The third-generation Audi A8 was officially unveiled back in 2009, but, just like any other model in the company’s lineup, the luxury sedan is also going to receive a small revision. Our spy photographers have caught the model testing for the first time somewhere in Germany.
Audi tried to hide the updates under some heavy camouflage, but even so, we already know what to expect when the revised A8 arrives on the market. Updates will be nearly identical to what we have seen on all the other updated Audi models.
The revised A8 is going to receive small changes to the front bumper, a new grille and new headlights. For the rear, the revised A8 will feature new lights and an updated bumper. The interior is also going to receive some small updates, plus an updated infotainment system.
Expect the revised Audi A8 to be unveiled later in the year, most likely at a major show like the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The 2014 Audi A8 L has been the object of affection for a lot of people, including myself who may or may not have a desktop wallpaper of the German luxury car on his laptop computer.
So, when Audi announced that the A8 L TDI is set to be brought to U.S. shores, you had at least one happy camper that’s already trying to fill up his piggy bank.
In all seriousness, this is great for everyone who has been clamoring for the super-luxurious German limousine to find its way in the Land of the Free. Take out the fact that the Audi A8 L TDI looks like an outright stunner that takes advantage of all the beautiful styling cues that Audi has come to be known for in the past years. Audi’s Premium Package also comes as a standard for the A8 L TDI, which means that you’ll receive Audi side assist and pre-sense rear, 22-way multi-contour comfort seats, front seat ventilation with massage capabilities, and full LED headlights. Sign us up, please!
But what we really like about the A8 L TDI is its 3.0-liter TDI engine that delivers 240 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, allowing the car to hit 60 mph in just 6.4 seconds. Sure, there could have been more power added to the engine, but given the kind of market the A8 L is supposed to take aim at, 240 ponies is mighty plenty for us, especially when the returns equate to an EPA estimated 24 mpg city / 36 mpg highway/ 28 mpg combined.
The 2014 Audi A8 L TDI will retail for $82,500 when it hits dealerships in the spring. That’s significantly cheaper than the $93,000 price tag attached to the Mercedes S350 BlueTEC. We like the S350 BlueTEC, but when given a choice, we’re not hesitating picking the A8 L TDI on this round.
We’ll update this review as more information on the U.S.-spec A8 L TDI is release.

When German luxury meets German aftermarket prowess, the result is a car that speaks both to the consumer’s want for elegance and need for blaze-setting speed.
ABT Sportsline knows a thing or two about satisfying its consumer’s tastes, and their new program for the Audi S8 is the epitome of what people look for in a high-powered luxury limo with sports car capabilities.
“For us, the new AS8 is the best of both worlds, that is, the best in terms of both comfort and acceleration and agility“, said Hans-Jürgen Abt, managing director of ABT Sportsline.
“After all, the AS8 has to meet our premium customers’ standards when it comes to performance and luxuriousness.”
Make no mistake; the Audi S8 is a luxury car that’s got no shortage of performance credentials, thanks to its 4.0-liter TFSI engine that’s powered with 520 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. Thanks to ABT’s power upgrades, the AS8 was able to increase its output to 620 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. Here’s the clincher: ABT still has some fine-tweaking to do, which could still increase the output of the car by more than just 20%. We like that, indeed.
Nevertheless, the current increased output allows it to hit 0-62 mph in just four seconds. In fourth gear, it can hit 37 to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds while fifth gear can be hit in 3.5 seconds from 50 to 75 mph. Finally, the AS8 can also hit 0-124 mph in just 13 seconds with an overall top speed of 181 mph.
Just a few weeks ago, we let you know that Audi had scrapped its inefficient 4.2-liter V-8 engine in favor of a boosted V-6, but that there may be a new V-8 in the making. Well, that "may be" just became a certainty, as Audi has just announced that a new V-8 is coming to the A8.
This new V-8 is actually one that is already on Audi’s shelves: It is the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 used in the S6 and S7 models. This puppy will pump out a healthy 420 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque and turn the new top-level A8 into the A8 4.0T.
The A8 4.0T is slated to debut in the 2013 model year and it’ll carry with it an $81,795 base price tag and an $88,095 price tag for the A8L 4.0T, which is the long wheelbase model. The pricing points give the 8 4.0T a nice slot right between the base A8 3.0T and the flagship S8 model.
We are sure there is tons more information to come from Audi, as it works its way closer to competing with BMW and Mercedes more effectively. The addition of turbo to the A8 line will certainly help speed along that process.

With CAFÉ standards taking effect, seeing engines downsizing across the board are pretty much a daily occurrence, as automakers scramble to increase their average fuel economy. So, to see Audi scrapping the 4.2-liter V-8 option in the A8 was really no shock, but the actual numbers game just does not quite add up to us.
The replacement engine for the 4.2-liter is a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 engine that pumps out 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. The horsepower drop is substantial between the 4.2-liter and 3-liter engines at a 39-pony drop, but the torque of the blower-equipped V-6 is only 3 pound-feet lower than the 4.2-liter. That’s all well and good, as long as this change over was to help it satisfy the fuel economy needs of drivers, but that’s not the case, as the EPA rates the 3.0-liter engine at 17 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, which is 1 mpg lower than the V-8 in the city and the same mpg on the highway.
The only area that customers are saving is in the pricing arena, as Audi is sheering off $6,530 from the 2012 Audi A8 4.2’s price, placing the new 2013 Audi A8 3.0T’s price at $73,095. According to Audi, it will be releasing a new V-8 in the Fall, so we’ll see if this engine will pump out the same ponies as the 4.2-liter did.
We will keep a close eye on this one, as we are all for increased mpg and lower emissions, but not at the expense of horsepower. Horsepower robbing is exactly why we pretty much cleared our minds of any American cars built from 1973 through 1988. Let’s not let this new crunch turn into the great horsepower massacre II…
For Audi, the Frankfurt Motor Show was not only about performance cars, but also about fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions. Next to the three S models released, the company’s stand also included the luxury A8 hybrid sedan. The new hybrid sedan will go on sale in 2012 and combines a 2.0 TFSI and an electric motor for a total output of 245 HP and an impressive fuel economy of 36.75 US mpg.
The new Audi A8 Hybrid is one of the few large hybrids on the market, but unlike its biggest competitor - the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 - the A8 features a much more elegant design. And thanks to its ASF (Audi Space Frame) body made entirely of aluminum, the A8 will also be lighter.
The Audi A8 Hybrid will go on sale later in 2012. Prices will be announced at a later date.
Updated 03/27/2012: Audi has unveiled a series of new images and new video for their A8 hybrid luxury sedan. Also, the car is now officially on sale in Europe, with prices starting from €77,700 for standard version and €85,400 for the L version.

Audi has announced the addition of the new A8 L W12 model to the current A8 line-up. The new model is powered by a brand new engine that replaces the 4.2-liter V8. Along with the new engine, the A8 L W12 comes with enhanced interior options and standard Audi connect online car services. It is priced at $133,500.
Pushing the 4.2L V8 out of the way is the new 6.3-liter 12-cylinder engine that delivers an impressive 500 HP and a peak torque of 463 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission and quattro all-wheel-drive and will sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in a time of 4.4 seconds.
The Audi A8 L W12 will be equipped with the highest level of
luxury available in the luxury segment, all standard for the vehicle.
These features include 22-way comfort seats in Valcona leather seating surfaces with ventilation and massage functions for all four seats, an Alcantara headliner, 20-inch wheels, LED headlights, a panorama sunroof, rear seat entertainment, and Audi connect with Google Earth.
A lot of people might not feel the need to own a luxury car that effectively has the skeleton of a high-grade military car, but for those few that depend on these cars to help protect them from outside threats, then we present to you Audi’s new high-powered, armored-to-the-hilt, luxury car, the 2011 A8 L Security.
At first glance, the A8 L Security looks exactly like the standard A8, but nothing about this car can be described as ’standard’. It’s got enough safety and security features to make anyone think it’s a fortress on wheels. According to Audi, the A8 L Security complies with the strictest standards of ballistic protection, capable of withstanding some pretty hellacious explosions.
Naturally speaking, Audi takes great lengths to ensure that the building of this car remains as low-key and secretive as possible. The armored car is built in Audi’s plant in Neckarsulm, Germany which is so private that even cell phones are prohibited inside to ensure that all of Audi’s trade secrets remain in-house.

The luxury sedan segment is cluttered with numerous offerings spanning many different countries. Germany is the pack leader with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series, and theAudi A8, while Japan counters with the Lexus LS460. Jaguar delivers with the new XJ, which is combination of elegant lines and old world grace, while American company, Cadillac, offers up the Stone Age DTS.
Each and every one of these machines has a purpose that is executed with precision and, for the most part, excellence. The new BMW 7-Series is fairly good at being a technology laden sports sedan, while the Lexus LS is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Yet, after a week in the new 2011 Audi A8, it has become clear that there is a new benchmark for the luxury sedan.
For years it was left behind by its German competitors, but now, the new world has caught up with the old world and for once, Mercedes-Benz and BMW will need to do some serious catching up in order to compete with this new A8. The “third” German car company has just taken the lead.

The Geneva Motor Show is now in the rear-view mirror, which means that the spotlight has now turned to the New York Auto Show this coming April, and if there’s one thing that we can all look forward to in New York, it’s that it will be the site of the 2011 World Car of the Year awards.
All in all, 39 vehicles were included in the initial entry list comprising of new cars from all over the world. From these 39 cars, the list was whittled down to ten finalists with the top three contenders from these 10 cars receiving the final nominations for the 2011 World Car of the Year title.
The cars that are subject for nomination are selected and voted on by an international jury panel consisting of 66 automotive journalists from 24 countries around the world. Each member of the panel has been appointed by the World Car Steering Committee on the merits of their experience, credibility, and influence within the auto industry in their respective countries and, to an extent, in the region.
Eligibility for the World Car award is important in determining which cars can be nominated for the awards. This year, all candidates for the awards must become available for sale on at least two continents from January 1, 2010 to May 30, 2011.
Apart from the World Car of the Year title, other awards that will be announced at the New York Auto Show include the World Performance Car of the Year, the World Green Car of the Year, and the World Car Design of the Year.

Unlike a lot of automakers that have already shown their commercials for the Super Bowl, Audi is taking a slightly different approach on how their building up interest for their two 60-second ads that’s going to be shown during the game.
The German manufacturer has yet to release their two commercials, instead opting for a more conservative and more interesting approach in the form of two teaser videos.
Centered around the "Luxury Prison" campaign as an ode to the company’s approach in progressive luxury, the two teaser videos gives us a good look at life inside the Luxury Prison.
In the first teaser video, some of the incarcerated ’felons’ of the prison talk to a group of young thrust-fund babies on the perils of their high-brow lifestyles with the hope of educating these spoiled brats from avoiding serving time at the prison.
The second video features world famous saxophonist Kenny G playing the role of the prison’s official "Riot Suppressor", a title he received for having the all-important role of de-escalating riots before they blow up into a full-on caviar throwfest.
These two videos serve as teasers for Audi’s two 60-second commercials that will be shown at the Super Bowl. One thing that’s worth noting about these two ads is that the Audi A8 luxury sedan will play prominent roles in both advertisements.
We don’t know what kind of role capacity the A8 will have for the two commercials, but as Audi hopes, we’re dying to find out. In the meantime, check out these two teaser videos of the ’Luxury Prison’ after the jump.
Audi’s full-size luxury sedan will be entering the 2011 model year with an overhaul fit to be called the vehicle’s third generation. This new model made its world debut in Miami at the Audi Pavilion in Miami Beach in 2009 with sales beginning in late 2010.
The 2011 Audi A8 is based on the Volkswagen Group MLB platform, but maintains its Audi Space Frame aluminum construction as the previous generation. A new engine will be introduced for this generation as the 6.3 liter W12 engine finds a home in the A8. As far as knick-knacks are concerned, the sedan will feature all light-emitting diode (LED) headlights, an enhanced Multi Media Interface with touchscreen, and an optional 1400 watt Bang & Olufsen sound system.
The 2011 Audi A8 starts off at about $78,000, but can peak at about $128,000 with all of the available options.

An evolution of Audi’s ongoing campaign to redefine luxury, the companion spot taps into viewers’ notions of old luxury with the help of an unlikely literary inspiration: Goodnight Moon, the 1947 children’s book by Margaret Wise Brown, one of the best-selling children’s books of all time.

If you’re the prime minister of a country that’s been rife with unrest for as long as you can remember, it’s always a good idea to roll around on the road with a car that puts a premium on your safety. Sure, luxury’s a big part too, but since you’re the leader of your country, luxury isn’t – and shouldn’t be - the be all and end all of your choice of ride.
The Israeli government knows a thing or two about assassinations – remember the late Yitzhak Rabin? – so when choosing for a new car for the current prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the country’s national domestic preventive security force – the Shin-bet, if you’re keeping score – has opted for an armored German limousine: a specially-built Audi A8L Security.
Based on the long-wheelbase variant of the A8, the car comes with standard 6-liter W12 engine that produces 450 horsepower with a Quattro all-wheel drive. Unlike just about any A8 on the planet though, this car is going to come with some state-of-the-art features specifically included to cater to the safety of the prime minister. There’s a B6+ and B7 ballistic protection, a fire-suppression system, run-flat tires, and explosive charges on the doors. And if prime minister Netanhayu wants to relax in his custom-made A8 limo, he can do so by enjoying the added DVD entertainment system and the humidor in case he’d like to light up a stogie.
The limousine is expected to cost somewhere around $1 million, which, if you’re Israel, is a pretty small price to pay for the safety and well-being of your leader.
Online configurators are a good way to burn some time on an otherwise boring and idle day at work. You can probably figure out how much we enjoy playing around with these configurators because when stories are dry, we spend a lot of time tinkering around with our would-be cars, fine-tuning them to our own personal liking. We rarely make a purchase on any of these cars, but these configurators are still a fun way to dream about what our cars would look like if we had the money to make a purchase.
To that, we’re thankful for Audi for releasing a new online configurator; this time, it’s for the new Audi A8. In this configurator, you can set up your virtual A8 with a pair of engine options, a number of interior and exterior stylings, a choice of tires, and a number of different packages that cater to specific needs and preferences of the customer.
We invite you to play around with the configurator if you’ve got nothing else to do. If for nothing else, it’s a good way to run your imaginations and construct your ideal A8 to cater to your every whim.
There are much better ways to drive around without getting noticed and driving around in cars that cost well over what any of us make isn’t one of them.
Our cars - a Mercedes-Benz S600 AMG, BMW 760Li, Jaguar XJ and the Audi A8 - are dressed in their best colors with the waxed paint job glimmering in the evening sunlight. Driving through the heavily used highways around the Cleveland area is prime gawking time for motorists. At first, the stares and pointing fingers can make you feel a bit uncomfortable, but can you blame them? It isn’t everyday that you see a luxury barge roll through a relatively poor city, especially now that LeBron James is gone.
These four sedans might be large in stature, but one nudge or poke in the wrong place and its goodnight in one impressive display. So, with more onlookers than a Thanksgiving Day parade, we are obliged to find the best luxury sedan among the four.

Audi revealed the first video for the 2011 Audi A8L W12 that made its world debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2010.
The promotional video provided by Audi shows the Audi in its entirety. The video allows the viewer to see the interior up close and personal as the camera zooms in. The Audi A8L W12 has a longer wheelbase with an extra 130mm of legroom which is clearly illustrated as the gentleman in the video stretches out his long legs in the back seat. Of course, we know how well Audi does with its videos considering the mini-series they have created with Justin Timberlake and Dania Ramirez which stars their newest hatchback, the Audi A1.
Back to this Audi. The Audi A8 L W12 uses a twelve cylinder engine that consists of four rows of three cylinders with a 15-degree included angle between the two offset rows of cylinders in each broad cylinder block. The engine is primed to deliver 500 hp and 460.98 lb-ft of torque at 3,250 rpm. The result is a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, while top speed remains limited to 155 mph.
We’re pretty surprised that it has taken so long for an auto manufacturer to come out with a factory-installed WLAN hotspot inside a car. We figured with the way the Internet was going, somebody would have it done by now.
Well, just in time, Audi has finally taken to making the term ’mobile web surfing’ to where we’ve always wanted it to be: inside a car. The Ingolstadt-based car maker is giving their new Audi A8 luxury sedan an option of having a WLAN hotspot inside it, which can then be connected to up to eight mobile devices while the car is moving.
Users can activate the WLAN by just inserting a data-capable SIM card into the A8’s Bluetooth online car phone and they’re all set to go and enjoy connection speeds of up to 7.2 Mbit/s, which is pretty fast considering that this is a new in-car technology for Audi.

Audi unveiled the long wheelbase version of the A8 luxury sedan today at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show. Compared to a standard A8, the L version is 130 mm longer. It is built on an aluminum chassis using the Audi Space Frame (ASF) that helps reduce the weight by about 40% compared to a comparable steel body.
The top version, the Audi A8 L W12 quattro, uses a twelve cylinder engine (four rows of three cylinders with a 15-degree included angle between the two offset rows of cylinders in each broad cylinder block) that delivers an impressive 500 hp and 460.98 lb-ft of torque at 3,250 rpm. The result is a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, while top speed remains limited to 155 mph.
The L version is distinguished by a single-frame radiator grille with integral grid structure painted in high-gloss black finish and special chromed horizontal bars, chromed inserts of new design in the air inlets, and chromed applications on the exterior mirrors, W12 badges displayed on the single-frame grille and at the rear of the car and the exhaust system with two trapezoidal-pattern tailpipe trims integrated into the rear bumper.

While Hofele Design was the first one to reveal a tuning kit for the luxury sedan Audi A8, Abt Sportsline brought there own version to Geneva Motor Show.
Abt focused their attention to the 4.2 TDI engine. With a few trick it has been tuned to deliver 385HP and an impressive 880 NM of torque. Next to the engine modification the tuner also added new front spoiler, side sills, the rear aprons with the tailpipe cover and the three-piece rear spoiler.
The car sits on 20 or 21 inch sizes wheels, depending on customer’s desire.

Next to the A1 e-tron, Audi also unveiled a hybrid version for the A8 luxury sedan today at the Geneva Motor Show. The concept is powered by a 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder unit rated at 211 hp and 258.15 lb-ft of torque combined with an electric motor that develops a total of 45 hp and 155.63 lb-ft of torque.
The A8 hybrid has a total weight of 4,155.71 lbs and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds, while top speed is limited to 146 mph. In all-electric mode it can hit a top speed of 40 mph. Above 40 mph the combustion engine alone does all the propulsive work, while the electric motor supplies onboard users and recharges the battery.
The A8 hybrid is distinguished by 21" two-color wheel rims styled with highly three-dimensional surface areas. The car is painted in "Prism Silver" with "Spectra Flair" as an accent color.
