When you talk about rare cars, you probably think of high-end Bugattis, Ferraris, Porsches, etc. No one would think of a regular production car to be a rare one, unless it is a vintage. But, surprisingly, many cars are actually quite rare and get lost in the crowd without getting noticed. Unless you have a keen eye or you’re a diehard petrol head, you too may not have noticed them. Doug DeMuro lists nine such rare cars that you might have walked or driven by without giving it a second look.

Suzuki Jimny is often called a baby Mercedes G-Class, courtesy of the boxy stance and the round headlights that both of them share. People tend to make their Jimnys look like the G-Class more often than not (never the other way round, thankfully!), and even tuners offer packages and mods that can make it look like the German. One such kit comes from a Japanese aftermarket company, Liberty Walk.

Liberty Walk has developed body kits and accessories for the Jimny that allow it to identify more as a Mercedes than a Suzuki. How’s that for an ego boost?

The first fruit to stem from the Toyota-Suzuki partnership struck a while back is called the Across and wears the Suzuki badge, although it’s pretty clear that the outer shell is nothing else but a slightly tweaked Toyota RAV4 body.

The Jimny is a capable off-roader and it has proven its mettle time and again. However, a car kit maker that goes by the name ‘Dutton’ has transformed this little off-roader into an amphibious vehicle called the Dutton Surf. Although a lot of such attempts have been made in the past, what makes the Dutton kit so special is its simplicity. The Indian market has been craving the Jimny for a very long time. Despite holding a 50-percent market share with Maruti in India, Suzuki has shied away from offering the car to one of the fastest-growing automotive markets today. Instead, the company sells an off-roader called Gypsy which is essentially a rebadged Jimny/Samurai from the 80s. This, too, is built only on special orders for the Indian Army and cannot be purchased by civilians.

Rumors of the Jimny making its debut in India has been doing rounds for a very long time, but now it looks like there is some information on it. The 2021 Jimny is expected to be launched with the ‘Gypsy’ badge and could have a Mini-Hummer look. The motive behind this is to match its direct competitor – the Mahindra Thar – in terms of shape and size. But, can you fathom an XL-sized Jimny?

The Suzuki Samurai reached our shores in 1985 but lived a very short life before the sales hit rock bottom. The latest-generation Suzuki Swift looks surprisingly sporty, especially in Sport trim. But the little hatchback just got a bit brawnier for the Tokyo Auto Salon, where it will showcase a new livery as the Yellow Rev concept.

The new Suzuki Jimny may be boxier than its predecessor, but it’s definitely a cute looking SUV. This doesn’t mean that it’s not ready for the great outdoors and Suzuki just created a hardcore concept version to prove just that. Called Jimny Survive, it turns the cute, keicar-like Jimny into a mini Jeep Renegade Trailhawk.

It looks like Suzuki hit a jackpot with the Jimny. It has garnered a lot of attention, thanks to its small yet rugged off-roader status. Just when we thought we had seen it all and the excitement was slowly sinking in, Suzuki decided to play with the Jimny a little more, and the result is simply fantastic.

The new Suzuki Jimny became an instant icon, an instant conversation starter, and an instant problem for Suzuki. The Japanese company simply cannot cope with the demand. The production facilities are working at their absolute limits, but there is no way for Suzuki to produce enough to meet the demand. That’s a problem.

Nevertheless, those produced are already being trashed somewhere on some off-road terrain. Some of them, however, managed to reach the garages of the most recognizable tuners out there. First, we were treated to that awesome Liberty Walk modification that basically turned the Suzuki Jimny into a baby Mercedes-Benz G-Class. At least in the virtual world, but I believe one can order it right now. On the other hand, we got an all-new look at another modified Suzuki Jimny. This one is done up by Wald International, a Japanese company known for its Black Bison Edition line of modifications. That’s exactly what the new Jimny received - and it’s awesome.
