2021 CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E Concept

The CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E Concept gives us a glimpse at how extreme the brand’s future could be

Who said electric cars can’t be fun, and most importantly, who said CUPRA is not going to survive? In fact it did survive, and is doing more than that: it is impressing the world with every car it unveils.

Its last creation - the Tavascan Extreme E Concept - is a 100% concept car built with off-roading in mind. It also offers a second glimpse to the CUPRA’s future Tavascan - or, the company’s second 100% electric model after the Born announced a few months ago. As a reminder, we got a first look at the Tavascan back in 2019 when a concept with the same name was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Cupra UrbanRebel Concept previews an electric urban car set to arrive in 2025

When Seat announced its new CUPRA sub-brand, no one believed it would actually stick around. As it turns out most people were wrong, as CUPRA is still around, and more than that, CUPRA models are very successful across Europe. The company is in fact so serious and successful that it is preparing to launch its first urban electric car sometime in 2025. While that is still four years from now, CUPRA used the 2021 IAA Munich motor show as an opportunity to give us a first glimpse at its future model.

2022 Cupra Born - The Volkswagen ID3's Worst Nightmare

2022 Cupra Born - The Volkswagen ID3’s Worst Nightmare

The Cupra Born comes with the best that the VW ID.3 has to offer, and then some more

Cupra, SEAT’s performance brand, has rolled out an electric hatch called Born. At its core, it’s a Volkswagen ID.3 but the brand has done well to not give it away easily. The Born is based on the el-Born concept that was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. This electric hatch looks similar to the ID.3 on the inside, but a lot more aggressive on the outside. It even comes with a performance package that makes it more powerful than the Volkswagen EV. While the VAG won’t matter which brand sells more as long as the volumes come from the same auto group, but will the Cupra Born cannibalize into the ID.3’s sales?

Cupra is flexing its racing muscle with a TCR-ready Leon

The Leon Competicion might be based on the five-door Cupra Leon hatchback, but in designing it, Cupra had to rethink a lot of areas, including the body kit which was developed using 3D-printing technology.

Race cars must abide by a particular set of rules depending on the competition they are enlisted. Cupra developed the Leon Competicion with TCR-racing customers in mind, so to deliver the finite product, a lot of tweaks were in order.

Rumors say that the VZ5 will get Audi’s five-cylinder turbo mill

The Formentor, Cupra’s first proprietary vehicle since it has parted ways with SEAT, can be currently had with a wide range of powertrains, including diesel, gasoline, and plug-in hybrid tech. None of these, however, will have the appeal of the recently teased Formentor VZ5, which is rumored to receive Audi’s 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine.

Here’s a powerful version of a performance-oriented crossover SUV by ABT

Spanish automaker Seat revealed its performance-oriented brand Cupra a couple of years back. The cars look good, come with a load of niceties, and of course, are strong performers. But, no amount of power or mods are ever enough and that is essentially what’s keeping the aftermarket companies running.

ABT Sportsline, the company which is known to work on Audi cars, and by extension, Volkswagen products, is here with its own version of the Cupra Formentor – a subcompact crossover SUV. The ABT Formentor comes with new wheels, a power boost, and a new exhaust system that makes it a different beast.

Cupra’s first EV is essentially a VW ID.3 with a different shirt

The SEAT brand we know now is very different from the SEAT we knew a decade ago. The wind of transformation has been blowing over the Volkswagen Group-owned carmaker lately and SEAT has been enjoying a new life thanks to a revised lineup brimming with good-looking cars.

In the process, the Cupra nameplate - used to designate the sportiest models of the SEAT bunch - evolved into a standalone brand and without wasting any time, it has come up with an electric car, albeit with a little help from the VW ID.3. Let’s check out the Cupra el-Born EV.

2021 CUPRA Formentor

Cupra’s first in-house production vehicle is a high-performance SUV

The 2020 Formentor is a compact crossover built by Cupra. Unveiled online during what was supposed to be the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, the Formentor is the first model exclusively developed by Cupra, a brand established only two years ago. At almost 4.5 meters long, the Formentor is smaller than the Kodiaq, but slightly bigger than the Karoq.

Design-wise, it’s not based on an existing Skoda. But it’s just as aggressive as its Leon-based counterpart and features all the trademark cues of the Cupra brand, like sharp lines, copper trim, and black elements. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, it’s named after a cape on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

2019 CUPRA Tavascan Concept

2019 CUPRA Tavascan Concept

CUPRA’s first all-electric vehicle will be an SUV-coupe, fellas

Out of all the cars churned out by the Volkswagen Group that are not of the premium/luxury ilk, Seat’s models have been the sweethearts when it comes to design, whether we’re talking the Leon, the Ibiza, or the likes of Ateca and Tarraco. CUPRA, a newly-born company that has its origins deeply rooted into the history of SEAT, is looking to follow and build on the same design creed with a stunning all-electric concept called Tavascan.

Now, as a new brand, CUPRA is just stretching its tentacles but it has been doing it with well-defined goals. For example, CUPRA has just become the official partner of FC Barcelona and it was only last month that it announced Mattias Ekstrom as its new e-ambassador and e-Racer official driver. Obviously, CUPRA is a brand that looks towards the future before anything else, so the concoction of all-electric concept cars shouldn’t raise any eyebrows. However, it’s the looks of said concepts that make us raise our hands and admit that CUPRA’s designers know what they’re doing. To further illustrate that, let’s have a closer look at the CUPRA Tavascan prototype, which the brand calls “a glimpse of our first 100% electric road vehicle.”

Cupra Formentor Concept steals the show at SEAT’s Geneva stand

SEAT’s 2019 Geneva International Motor Show stand was abuzz with activity this year, most of which was focused around a design study premiere, the Cupra Formentor concept. Cupra Formentor Concept Is Yet Another Performance Crossover, But With A Plug-in Hybrid Twist

I get some clear Infiniti QX30 vibes with the new Spanish concept called the Cupra Formentor. Prepared for the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, the Cupra Formentor is officially classified as a concept, but every single thing about it seems as production ready as it gets. Of course, while the exterior shape does have some QX30 vibe to it, the Formentor has a completely different layout, mission, and technology inside. It is a performance SUV/crossover because that’s what sells, and that’s how you build a performance brand nowadays. And, it looks quite dashing. I also researched a bit about its name and found out that there is a thing called the Cap de Formentor. It is basically a part of the peninsula on Mallorca. There, the Spanish built a lighthouse called the Formentor. It’s quite picturesque actually. Old Majorcans also call this place the Meeting Point of Winds. So, there you have it. The new Cupra probably got its name from this. I like it actually. It fits the car. Far more important than its name is the Formentor’s place in the Cupra lineup. With the Cupra Ateca revealed last year, the Formentor is the second Cupra performance SUV. Most likely, it’s longer, wider, but lower than the Cupra Ateca. And, that’s what’s important. Plus it does have a swept roof that’s kinda coupeish. That, more often than not, works well.

Pops' Rants: Yup, Ferrari Can No Longer Be Trusted

Pops’ Rants: Yup, Ferrari Can No Longer Be Trusted

But you will still pay heavy premiums for its cars

Like many business relationships, that between carmakers and customers should be one of trust and respect. Automakers should make sure that they deliver a solid product as they cash the check, while customers should use the cars accordingly. Unfortunately, recent events prove that car companies can’t be trusted. Volkswagen was caught cheating on their emission tests for diesel cars, while many other brands have admitted to lying about MPG figures for some vehicles. Mercedes and BMW have been accused of testing dirty diesel engines on monkies, and some reports claim that they used human volunteers as well. Now, it turns out that Ferrari can’t be trusted either. Ferrari! An automaker that asks between hundreds of thousands and millions of dollars for its cars and has strict rules for potential customers.

I’m not saying that Ferrari should stick to the rules more than any other automaker out there, but it’s massively ironic that Maranello cheated its clients. In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, it has been revealed that Ferrari allowed its dealers to roll back odometers on used cars in the U.S., a move that inflates prices for used models artificially.

Cupra Ibiza Vs. Ford Fiesta ST – A Visual Comparison

Cupra Ibiza Vs. Ford Fiesta ST – A Visual Comparison

We take a gander at some mini hot hatch goodness

Following an unofficial reveal earlier this week that spilled shots of the upcoming Cupra Ibiza all over social media, the newly minted standalone performance brand decided to serve up some fresh press shots of the tiny mighty machines. While Cupra maintains thenew Ibiza is not yet part of the standard brand lineup (believe it or not, Cupra is saying that it’s still in the “design exercise” phase), it looks pretty darned done to us. With that in mind, we decided to give a little visual inspection and comparison against one of its chief rivals – the Ford Fiesta ST.

2018 Cupra Ibiza

2018 Cupra Ibiza

Cupra goes it alone with a proven hot hatch recipe

The Ibiza nameplate has been around since 1984, when Spanish automaker SEAT introduced it as a replacement for the outgoing Fura. Framed as an affordable and fun B-segment supermini, the Ibiza has seen five generations over the years, the most recent of which dropped in 2017 at the Geneva International Motor Show. A variety of body styles have been used as well, including a five-door hatchback, a sedan, a coupe, and a wagon, but the most interesting of the lot is the hot-to-trot Cupra model. These high-performance iterations (“Cupra” is an amalgamation of “cup” and “racing”) are aimed squarely at the enthusiast market, bringing more power, aggressive styling, stiff suspension, big brakes, and an interior-spec upgrade to match. These days, Cupra fancies itself a standalone brand, much in the same way Polestar detached itself from Volvo. And while the first effort for the sub-brand-turned-automaker is the 300-horsepower Ateca SUV, you can bet a freshly Cupra-tized Ibiza is on the way too. That much was revealed in a slew of images posted to social media prior to an expected debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. In response to the leak, Cupra dropped a selection of official pics, given us a clearer view of the pumped-up five-door.

While Cupra is saying the Ibiza isn’t considered an official part of the range just yet (this latest model is designated as no more than a design exercise), we think it’s highly likely the hot hatch is production-ready. The brand will show the new Ateca in Geneva, which is all well and good, but in all honesty, the Ibiza is the the one we really want. Read on to find out why.

2019 Cupra Ateca

2019 Cupra Ateca

Fresh from the bowels of the SEAT – Cupra split comes the Cupra Ateca, a rebadged model with the typical tuner enhancements. Highlights include a considerable horsepower increase, mild revisions to the exterior, plenty of Alcantara inside, and a swath of standard features suited for what would have been the range-topping model of the SEAT Ateca range. Of Course, there’s a lot of ground for the Cupra Ateca to cover when you consider the sheer size of the compact SUV Market. Sure, there aren’t a lot of performance compacts out there, but the Cupra Ateca will be fighting for dominance against vehicles like the Porsche Macan, BMW X3, and Jaguar F-Pace, all heavy hitters that could make things for the new kid on the block a little more difficult. So, let’s see what the new Ateca brings to the table and just how well it stacks up against the competition.

Looking good, Cupra!

Like a teenager that had to navigate through rocky adolescent years, the Seat Ibiza Cupra has evolved from an ugly duckling to a fierce swan, if such a thing existed. The hot hatch’s impressive evolution shouldn’t come as a surprise, though, because Cupra is now going at it alone after breaking off from the Seat mothership to become a standalone performance brand. As far as first impressions go, Cupra is on the right track because leaked photos of the Cupra Ibiza reveal a hot hatch that looks ready to steal some thunder from its rivals.
