2005 Mosler MT900 S

American-made, Corvette-powered, barely street-legal supercar

Close your eyes and think of an “extreme performance vehicle.” What does it look like? For starters, it’s gotta be impossibly low and ridiculously wide – a real hazard in everyday traffic. It’s gotta have vents and wings and swooping bodywork that looks like it was plucked straight from the starting grid. And it’s gotta sound mean, like it’ll rip your arms off if you turn your back on it. All in all, that’s a pretty accurate description of the Mosler MT900 S, a race car that somehow tricked the powers that be into giving it a license plate and permission to traverse public highways. Engineers with extensive motorsport experience made it, and clearly, no punches were pulled in the pursuit of ultimate speed. Lightweight, race-bred suspension, snarling V-8 in the middle – that’s the formula here.

The MT900 S saw extremely limited production, as customers usually opted for the track-only variant. Still, there are a handful of the street-legal alternatives out there, both in the U.S. and the U.K., and incredibly, owners do occasionally take them out for a drive. Read on to find out just how insane that really is.

2009 Mosler MT900S Can Be Yours For $250K

Rare supercar up for sale with a price of just $249,000

If you’re looking to purchase another supercar for your collection, we found one that you just might be interested in. The car you’re looking at in the images is a 2009 Mosler MT900s. Derived from the original MT900, the MT900S is the road-going variant of that beautiful race car. Most sources claim there were only 20 built between 2003 and 2010, with pre-1996 models being powered by a

sourced, 5.7-liter LS6 V-8. This car, however, should have the 7.0-liter LS7 V-8 used in models built from 2007 on.

Unfortunately, specifics of the vehicle are very thin as far as its listing goes. According to the trim around the shifter, this vehicle is Chassis No. 67. It only has 3,421 miles and apparently has a five-speed manual transmission. It should be noted, however, that most sources claim these cars were built with a six-speed manual so that transmission may not be the stock transmission.

Outside of the transmission discrepancy, this is a fine example. Looking at the photos, the car is very clean, and the orange paint finish really fits the car with the black spoiler, rear window louvers, window tint, and black wheels. The price shown on thenewautotoystore.com is set to $249,000, which seems to be about the norm, as several other listings in the past have also been priced in the $200,000 to $250,000 range.

2012 Mosler MT900SP

2012 Mosler MT900SP

It’s no secret that Mosler’s range of extreme sports cars only caters to a certain demographic of people. Either you’re the hardcore racer type or you have far deeper pockets than the average Joe, that’s the market for these insane Moslers.

So what happens when Mosler decides to release a new and lightweight version of the mighty MT900? Time to break the bank, fellas.

The MT900SP will only be limited to 1 unit per year and is being promoted as an extreme 2 seat, mid-engined, air conditioned, rear-wheel drive sports car that’s capable of blowing just about any other car it lines up against. The MT900SP features a composite chassis and plenty of carbon fiber body panels that drastically shaves off some weight on the car, resulting in a car that weighs well under 2,500 lbs or around 1,140 kg.

All that however still plays a back seat to the unquestioned draw of the MT900SP: the 7.0-liter V8 engine. This monstrous powertrain is capable of producing 535 horsepower while mated to a six-speed Getrag transmission. Those figures translate to a 0-60 mph time of just under three seconds with a quarter-mile time of sub-11 seconds and a top speed of over 200 mph.

For all of that automotive goodness contained in one package, the MT900SP will remain a niche sports car for an exclusive consumer base, all because interested buyers will have to fork over $479,000 for the privilege of owning one.

2012 Mosler Raptor

2012 Mosler Raptor

US-based automaker Mosler has made a name for itself by building reconfigured race cars for street purposes. Some of these models include the MT900 GTR and the MT900 GTR XX (pictured above). Now, the niche sports car builder from Florida is reportedly in the process of developing and building a new supercar that will weigh no more than 2,000 lbs. The lightweight bullet - it’s being touted the ’Raptor’ - is poised to carry a 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces around 650 horsepower.

Details surrounding the Raptor’s design are still being kept under wraps, but we don’t expect it to be too far a departure from the existing models on the company’s fleet. We do expect it to be light as a feather, though, relative to its predecessors. That enormous power-to-weight ratio should make for a supercar than can smoke the rest of its peers, allowing them to eat its proverbial dust.

We’ll keep you posted on the latest updates and development news surrounding Mosler and the new Raptor sports car when it becomes available.

Special Mosler MT900 intends to set a new speed record at the Nardo Ring

Special Mosler MT900 intends to set a new speed record at the Nardo Ring

If you thought that the Devon GTX was the only low production hand made American super car setting records then you might want look under the M section of your automotive dictionary. That is because the Riviera Beach based Mosler Automotive company has been making mid engine race cars around the best V8s that Chevrolet has to offer and then also sells them as street cars.

One thing that every Mosler has been built to do since 1993 is go around a track as quickly as possible, and the U.K. Racing Team is preparing a very special Mosler MT900 in order to do just that, except the circuit they are going to is like none other in the world. That is because Italy’s Nardo Ring is a high speed test track consisting of a 7.8 mile long banked circle sitting on the heel of the nation’s boot. The U.K. based technicians have already begun preparations by ensuring that they will be able to get the required 1000 HP from a 427 cubic inch LS7 borrowed from the Corvette Z06. The next step is to get the car and driver (Michelangelo Larosa) package as close to 1000 pounds as possible, however aerodynamics might play a bigger role than they think to best the special edition Mercedes C111’s 403.978 km/h record set back in 1979. However we are still waiting for the date.

Mosler MT900 GTR XX Twin Turbo Land Shark

Mosler MT900 GTR XX Twin Turbo Land Shark

When you think of cars with enough power to push themselves through the air at 250+ MPH machines like the Bugatti Veyron(253.4 MPH) and the SSC Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo(255.83 MPH). But honestly the performance of these Ultra exotic super cars is laughable when seen next to the new Mosler MT900 GTR XX Twin Turbo Land Shark by Intense Automotive Design. Why you ask? Because the latest iteration of Johnny Mosler’s mid-engine super car is limited to 305 MPH, a number more commonly associated with kilometers.

The "Land Shark" weighs in at only 1898 lbs (551 lbs less than the GTR XX) and is powered by a 381 cubic inch engine V8 that delivers no less than 2500 HP! The Land Shark can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 2.5 seconds and hits the 150 MPH mark just 4.2 seconds later, but the ridiculous starts to happen 17.5 seconds after takeoff when the speedometer in this MT900 crosses 250 MPH, and keeps on going.

The Mosler MT900 GTR XX Twin Turbo Land Shark will make its official debut at the 2009 Bonneville Speed Week. I couldn’t think of a more appropriate location on Earth.

As an alternative, the engine is also capable of 1800 hp(dyno testing showed “only” 1635 hp) if the auxiliary tank is filled with race gas, this way switching to the high-boost setting. The engine is waiting for its final tuning and installation and in some weeks will be ready to hit the roads.
“Fulfilling this unique request was not an easy task. We spent months perfecting this engine. Ultimately all our hard work paid off and once completed this Mosler will be a one of a kind vehicle, unmatched in power and performance”.said Tom Nelson, owner of Nelson Racing Engines.
