Gone are the days when Legos were just building blocks for small kids. Once people realized they can be fun for adults also, Legos suddenly became a serious passion. Companies realized this, too, and started making models of all shapes, sizes, and types. The latest Lego “artifact” that has caught our attention is this 1:8 scale model of the GTA Spano. GTA Spano From Need For Speed Movie Up For Sale

GTA Spano From Need For Speed Movie Up For Sale

The Need for Speed movie may not have been the best auto-themed film we’ve ever seen - ok, it was pretty horrible - but at least it had a litter of some of fastest and most powerful cars in the world. One such car is this yellow GTA Spano, which is actually one of the only original vehicles that were used in the filming of the movie. Yes, the cars that you saw participate in the final race sequences and all those car crashes were prop versions of the actual supercars. In a way, that fact makes this particular GTA Spano that much more appealing to collectors and to their good fortune, this GTA Spano is now up for sale!

Super Garage Marbella, one of Spania GTA’s authorized dealers, is in possession of the car and is asking for a tidy sum of €1.5 million for it. That’s about $1.63 million based on current exchange rates. Whether it’s worth spending that much money on a GTA Spano is a question best asked at another time. What’s important is that whoever decides to buy it will take ownership of a car that not only participated in the movie, but was also used in a number of premieres, including the red carpet premier in Hollywood.

More importantly, the would-be buyer will be purchasing a car that packs an enormous 8.0-liter twin-turbo V-10 engine that produces an incredible 925 horsepower and 900 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers help the Spano sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds to go with a top speed of 230 mph, making it one of the fastest production cars in the world.

It may not have the prestige of a Bugatti Veyron or the technological wizardry of a Koenigsegg Agera R. But, with its combination of power, performance, and Hollywood pedigree, this yellow GTA Spano could end up being one of the most sought-after movie supercars in the world. Maybe that $1.63 million price tag isn’t that bad after all.

2015 GTA Spano

2015 GTA Spano

The GTA Spano first broke cover at the Geneva Motor Show only a few short years ago, followed by an update in 2013 that saw a substantial power increase. This year, Spania GTA will once again unveil an updated version of its exclusive supercar at the 85th Annual Geneva Motor Show, with several revisions that make the vehicle even more extreme than before.

For those of you who didn’t know, the GTA Spano is a Spanish-built supercar hailing from the workshop of GTA Motor in Valencia, a sister company to GTA Motor Competicion. The cars are hand-built, devastatingly fast, and quite rare. The GTA Spano has even been featured in movies and video games, such as Need For Speed and DriveClub.

This year, the GTA Spano returns to Geneva sporting a redesigned look and a more powerful Viper-derived engine.

DriveClub will Feature the GTA Spano

DriveClub will Feature the GTA Spano

When it comes to driving some of the coolest and most unique cars on the planet, video games are as close as most of us are going to get. This has led a lot of game makers to “debut” cars in games so that the world at large can have a chance to check them out in an environment that is familiar to them. This has been going on for years with games like Forza Motorsports 5 debuting the McLaren P1 and Forza Horizon 2 coming to market with the new Lamborghini Huracán. Now Spania has piped up and said that the new Playstation 4 game, DriveClub, will come with the GTA Spano.

If you are a fan of the Spanish car company that creates the GTA Spano, DriveClub may be your only chance to ever even see one as production was limited to only 99 examples of this supercar. With an 8.3-liter, V-10 engine that makes 900 horsepower, we expect this to be one of the fastest cars in the whole game. The car will hit 60 mph from a stop in less than three seconds and it has a top speed of 230 mph. Yeah, it is a really quick machine.

DriveClub is next in what appears to a large wave of racing games that focus on the love of cars and the social side of car ownership. DriveClub sees racers team up in large car clubs to race, compete and otherwise enjoy bombing around a beautiful landscape. The game is not set up to have players blast through the open countryside, though; if that is more of what you are after, you might want to wait for the upcoming Ubisoft game The Crew.

You can pick up your copy of the new game on October 7, 2014 here in the States. Note, it is only available for the Playstation 4 gaming console. Sorry Xbox and PC fans.

GTA Spano Now Available in "Need for Speed Rivals"

GTA Spano Now Available in "Need for Speed Rivals"

A month after it was announced that the Spanish supercar was also making an appearance at the new Need for Speed movie, the Spano is making it 2 out of 2 for the Need for Speed franchise. It’s a great way for the Spano to get some much-needed publicity after being largely in the shadows of more popular competitors. But one thing we do know is that the Spano is all sorts of ridiculous and it deserves its turn in the spotlight.

Being in the new Need for Speed game accomplishes that. It’s not so much the fact that the franchise is one of the most popular and successful video games in history, having sold 150 million copies in its long and storied existence, but it’s also how NFS has managed to successfully cross over into other media platforms, like the NFS movie that’s scheduled to hit theaters this week. And guess what; the Spano is one of the main supercars featured in the film.

The Spanish sports car will be joined by other cars in the “Need for Speed Rivals, Movie Cars Pack,” and will be available in a digital format for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The GTA Spano Will Make its Silver-Screen Debut in "Need For Speed"

The GTA Spano Will Make its Silver-Screen Debut in "Need For Speed"

In case you haven’t seen the trailers and ads that are scattered across TV, internet and movies screens nationwide, the "Need for Speed" movie is coming. The new car-packed film from DreamWorks Pictures is loaded full of some of the hottest metal to hit the silver screen in years. Names like Bugatti, McLaren and Koeingsegg
are all present and accounted for, but there is another name in the movie you may not have heard of.

Meet the GTA Spano. This slab of yellow awesomeness is made by a small Spanish company called Spania GTA.

With 925 horsepower and a top speed well over 200 mph, the GTA Spano has the performance to match its motorized co-stars in the upcoming film. Thanks to a limited run of less than 100 cars, this movie is likely the only chance most will have to see a Spano in motion.

I have my reservations regarding the quality of the Need for Speed movie but one thing is certain; DreamWorks has thrown some of the best nameplates into the mix for the true enthusiast.

2013 Spania GTA Spano

2013 Spania GTA Spano

Two years after the GTA Spano first made head turns at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the Spanish supercar is returning to Geneva with a new name and a production guise that will more than likely go on sale sooner than later.

The buzz surrounding the Spano’s attendance at Geneva was ratcheted up a few notches after Spania GTA released a shadowy teaser image of the supercar on its site with the words "Coming Soon..."

That’s about as exciting as it gets.

One of the things that made the Spano a showstopper two years ago was the comprehensive supercar package that it came with, highlighted by an 8.3-liter supercharged V-10 Bioethanol engine that produced 820 horsepower and 708 pound-feet of torque.

Well, here’s some interesting news: word has it that the production Spano will once again feature the same 8.3-liter supercharged V-10 engine, except that the Spania GTA has increased the output to a stout 900 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque.

Despite the improved output, Spania GTA appears to be taking a cautious approach with the performance numbers of the Spano, saying that the supercar can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph.

We’ve got no problems with that 0-to-100 km/h time, but that 217 mph top speed seems a bit conservative for a car that comes with 900 horses.

In any case, we’ll find out more about the Spano when Spania GTA officially pulls the covers off of the supercar at Geneva next month.

Updated 02/25/2012: Spania GTA has released a second teaser image for the 2013 Spano supercar. The new version will make its world debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show next to a new jewelry line made by José Marín.

Update 11/05/2013: The GTA Spano made its debut at the Dubai International Auto Show today, and GTA Spania released a few new, high-res images.

Video: GTA Spano start, rev, and accelerations

Marchettino has impressed us with his video skills once again with a video featuring the brand new GTA Spano supercar. The video shows the car’s engine start up, along with a couple of revving scenes and some accelerations! Bottomline: This video is pretty awesome.

As a reminder, the new GTA Spano is powered by an 8.3-liter V10 engine placed in a longitudinal rear position that produces 780 HP and 678 lbs-ft of torque. If those 780 HP aren’t enough, GTA also offers a Bioethanol version that bumps up the power all the way up to 820 HP. The supercar can hit 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph.

Let us know in the comments section below if you think the new Spano is as fast and impressive as the company hopes it is!

Video: 2012 Top Marques Monaco - Supercar Show

Our favorite Youtube user, Marchettino, has managed to delight us one more time by attending the 2012 edition of the Top Marques Monaco to film all of the amazing vehicles in attendance. We have to admit the list of supercars is quite impressive.

For those who don’t know, the Top Marques is an important supercar show that brings together some of the most expensive and exclusive supercars, hypercars, and tuning projects every year. It’s kind of like Christmas for us auto journalists, but without the big, jolly guy giving one of these supercars to us as a present. This kind of Christmas comes with huge prices and tremendous power backing it up.

Our favorite from the entire list of vehicles in attendance this year is the Koenigsegg Agera R, but the list is much, much longer.

Production GTA Spano headed to Geneva

Production GTA Spano headed to Geneva

When we first saw the GTA Spano this time last year, the limited-run Spanish-built supercar was being introduced at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. At that time, the Spano was being touted as a Spain’s answer to an increasing number of niche super cars being built all over the world.

A year later and we’re all here, waiting in earnest for the production of the GTA Spano, but GTA Motors has confirmed that the "definitive" version of the Spano has been penciled in to make its debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. We’re guessing that "definitive" is just a term that they are using to say that they have finished tweaking their supercar and are finally ready to start production.

The Spano will be limited to only 99 units, which means that it’s going to be tough to get a piece of this supercar. For what it’s worth, though, the GTA Spano is powered by an 8.3-liter V10 engine that produces a mouth-watering 780 horsepower and 920 Nm of torque, performance capabilities that allow the Spanish supercar to hit 0-60 mph in just under three seconds while hitting a top speed of 217 mph.

2011 GTA Spano

2011 GTA Spano

Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, GTA Spano. What do these three names have in common? They are all revolutionary automotive icons in Spain’s recent history. The rally driver Sainz is more commonly referred to as “King” Carlos, and is more popular than the entire Real Madrid soccer team. Formula 1 World Champion Alonso made car racing more popular than MotoGP in the two wheeled enthused country. Now comes the Spano, a Spanish supercar that’s set to take the automotive world by storm and establish a presence in a country best known for making SEATs.

Not one to be pushed aside by its more high-profile contemporaries, the limited production Spanish-built supercar is making a new era in the country’s automobile industry. But is it a vehicle that will make Lamborghini owners consider a switch?

Now that the Spanish supercar has been presented at the Geneva Motor Show, you’re going to have to be the judge of that. Whatever you may think of it, one thing’s for sure: the world better get used to the GTA Spano. It’s coming to the town like a Spanish ’El Nino’, and there appears to be no stopping it.

UPDATE 03/03/2011: This review has been updated with new specs and images of the GTA Spano coming out of its first Geneva event!

GTA prepares Spano Spyder and R versions

GTA prepares Spano Spyder and R versions

The GTA Spano was the first Spanish sportscar, and it turned out to be more successful than everyone expected. Of course that just means that GTA would be crazy not to crank out a few more versions of this Don Juan. So during the latest testings done at the Valencian Community Ricardo Tormo Circuit test unit, GTA discussed two future versions for the Spano sports car: a Spyder and a track-focused R version. There aren’t any details on either of these future models, but we expect them to deliver the same performance numbers as the coupe version and also only be offered in limited numbers.

As a reminder, the GTA Spano is powered by a V10 engine which is longitudinally positioned at the rear and delivers 780 HP and a torque of 920 NM. The car sprints from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds and can hit a top speed of 207 mph. It is built on a chassis created by combining Kevlar, carbon fiber, and titanium, and sits on a set of wheels manufactured exclusively for this car.
