Land Rover

Land Rover is a British brand that currently manufactures all-wheel-drive premium SUVs. Established in 1948, Land Rover started out as an SUV and pickup truck manufacturer that aimed its products at the more affordable side of the market. The brand became famous for its series of spartan off-road vehicles that were inspired by the Willys Jeep. These SUVs are known as the Series I, II, and III and were built from 1948 until 1983, when the last series was replaced by the iconic Defender.

In 1970, Land Rover launched the Range Rover, a more luxurious and more refined 4x4 SUV. The nameplate lives to this day in its fourth generation. Land Rover expanded its lineup with the Discovery in 1989, the Freelander in 1997, and the Range Rover Sport in 2005. The Range Rover Evoque, the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Velar followed in 2011, 2014, and 2017, respectively.

Incorporated by various British companies in its first decades on the market, Land Rover was purchased by BMW in 1994, which sold it to Ford in 2006. In 2008, it was purchased by Tata Motors, which established Jaguar Land Rover Limited. Land Rover’s current lineup includes six different models, all of the SUV variety.

How Does The New Defender Square Up Against Its Predecessor?

How Does The New Defender Square Up Against Its Predecessor?

Other than their impressive off-road capabilities, almost everything is different between the old and the new Defenders

Following a continuous production run for 67 years, the Defender was discontinued in 2016 due to rising irrelevance and the costly EU emission standards. However, in 2020, Jaguar Land Rover released a new generation that differs significantly from the previous model. The main highlights include the platform it is based on, the overall design, and hybrid powertrain alternatives. The previous generations were also reputed for their spartan cabins and lack of technology. The new Defender adequately embraces technology and gets a new range of modern petrol and diesel engines from across the available range. Both the past and present Defenders were made to be off-roading SUVs, but there is no harm in comparing attributes to see where each excels better than the other.

Jaguar Land Rover Is Making Big Moves to Fix Its Reputation

Jaguar Land Rover Is Making Big Moves to Fix Its Reputation

Jaguar and Land Rover has been plagued with quality and reliability problems, but that’s starting to change

When an automaker is in turbulent times, sometimes all it takes is the right person to turn it all around. Take Jaguar and Land Rover for example – two companies that have been plagued by quality and reliability issues to the point that the whole world knows just how bad they really are. And I’m not even exaggerating, either. In What Car’s 2020 reliability survey, Land Rover landed dead last in position No. 31 with a score of 78.2-percent, or 10-percent less than Renault at 87.6-percent in position No. 30. Jaguar did a little better in position 21 with a score of 91.8-percent, but you get the idea – neither company is known for two things that matter the most. There was even a protest at JLR’s Shanghai headquarters in 2018 over poor performance. For 2021 and beyond, however, both brands could very well see a completely different fortune.

What is the Cheapest Land Rover?

The Discovery Sport is the most affordable Land Rover in 2019. Priced from $37,990, it’s also the only Land Rover to fetch less than $40,000. The company’s smallest crossover, the Range Rover Evoque, retails from $42,650, while all other vehicles cost in excess of $50,000.

What is the Sportiest Land Rover?

The "Sport" in Range Rover Sport mainly describes the vehicle’s smaller size compared to the standard Range Rover, but the brand’s SVR division adds high-performance credentials similar to those found in some Jaguar cars. Not only significantly more powerful than other Land Rovers, the Range Rover Sport SVR also features a sportier chassis with a lower ride and stiffer springs, as well as carbon-fiber components. It’s also a bit more aerodynamic while the revised front fascia provides enhanced cooling to the engine and the bigger brakes. The supercharged, 5.0-liter V-8 engine shared with the Jaguar F-Type produces an impressive 567 horsepower. The Range Rover Sport SVR is suitable for track use despite its size and weight.

What is the Most Popular Land Rover?

The Range Rover Sport is the company’s most popular model in the United States, taking around 26 percent of national sales in recent years. The Range Rover Velar, the Land Rover Discovery Sport, and the Range Rover Evoque are also high sellers with more than 1,000 units delivered monthly, but they don’t get close to the Range Rover Sport’s sales of almost 2,000 examples per month.

What is the Most Expensive Land Rover?

The Range Rover, the company’s largest SUV, is also the most expensive. Packed with luxury features and state-of-the-art tech, the Range Rover retails from $90,900 before options. Opt for the long-wheelbase model with the 557-horsepower V-8 and SVAutobiography trim and pricing jumps to a whopping $210,795. Go crazy with the fancy options and the Range Rover can fetch close to $260,000.

What is the Fastest Land Rover?

The powerful Range Rover Sport SVR is also the fastest Land Rover. The 567-horsepower V-8 engine pushes the SUV from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. No other Land Rover can hit the benchmark this quick. Its top speed is also superior to any other vehicle from the brand at 176 mph.

Are Land Rover Cars Reliable?

The old Land Rover Series models and the Defender were among the most reliable SUVs on the market. They were built like tanks and were famed for their capabilities, easy repairs, and thus remained on the road for decades. However, the modern Land Rover brand isn’t as reliable as it used to be. Consistent reports of unreliability turned the British brand into one of the least reliable companies. Less than 10 years ago, Land Rover was declared the least reliable car on the road with more than 70 percent of used vehicles breaking down each year. Things weren’t as bad in 2019, when Land Rover vehicles usually ranked at average. This isn’t very good given the prices Land Rover charges for its models. The Range Rover Sport and the Range Rover Evoque are the most reliable SUVs from the brand.
