The boys are back! After their LOCHdown special, which aired back in July, this year’s next Grand Tour Special, which is also their Christmas Special dubbed Carnage A Trois, dwells a little deeper into French cars. Owing to the lockdowns which would have been in place when this film was made, the Grand Tour team really couldn’t venture far to some exotic locales like Brazil or Namibia. So instead, they had to stick within the confines of the U.K. Nevertheless, the trailer does look pretty darn exciting.

In one of his most recent videos, Doug DeMuro checks out one of the weirdest modern cars to ever hit the road, the 2006 Citroën C6. It was the French automaker’s flagship car between 2005-2012, although, the C6 was never sold in North America.

It went up against models like the Mercedes Benz E Class and the BMW 5 Series. This particular example is currently on display at the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.

When you think of Citroen, you rarely think of performance cars. The French carmaker is mainly known for producing quirky, practical cars where performance is, at best, an afterthought. But back when Citroen was cool and owned Maserati, it collaborated with tire manufacturer Michelin to create a crazy prototype for high-speed testing. This resulted in the 1973 Citroen SM Breadvan – the fastest front-wheel-drive car in the world.

Mat Watson from ‘Carwow’ conducted a very different kind of race recently. He didn’t have any fancy cars this time. Instead, he drag-raced a Citroen Ami against a scooter, an e-bike, and two remote control cars. No prizes for guessing which one of these won, but this incredibly fun race will leave you in splits.

Citroen C5 started its life as a station wagon and a notchback back in 2001 when the first generation was launched. A sedan was added to the lineup when the second generation was launched in 2007. Now, the third generation comes with a few interesting changes.

With a design inspired by the third generation C4 and the CXperience concept, the new C5 "combines the modernity and appeal of an SUV, the elegance and status of a saloon, and the versatility and practicality of a station wagon." In another words, the new C5 X is now a "liftback." Confusing, no?

Electrification might be doing a lot for modern cars, but it’s also breathing new life into older cars. Case in point: this 1971 Citroen DS. Tuning firm Electrogenic has removed the old 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and replaced it with an all-electric powertrain and battery pack. The new powertrain delivers 120 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque. The juice comes from a 48.6 kWh battery that delivers a range of around 140 miles but Electrogenic does offer a range extender that can boost that range to more than 200 miles.

Outside of the new powertrain, most of the Citroen DS remains untouched. The design remains the same, though the owner of this specific model went with the hydro-pneumatic suspension to improve ride quality. There are cars out there that beg to be used as platforms. If you’ve watched Jay Leno’s Garage on YouTube, you’ll know he has plenty of weird and cool stuff that he likes to showcase in detail. This time, he’s showing us a 1967 Citroen 2CV, but not just any 2CV. This one has a custom fiberglass body and it’s a convertible.

The DS brand has established itself as Citroen’s luxury brand. After the DS3 and DS7 Crossback, the French marque has brought out its flagship – the DS9. It’s been too long since Citroen has had any form of a full-size saloon. Finally, in 2021, they have filled the void. The DS9 aims to compete with the likes of Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-Series. A bold move, indeed. Those, familiar with the history of French manufacturers know that back in the 1950s, the most comfortable and revolutionary cars came from France. Can the DS9 recapture the old glory?

The new C4 is here and brings in what can be described as the French equivalent of retro-futurist design. This is especially interesting since Citroens of old were very advanced cars for their time and they also looked futuristic. Because of this, it may seem strange that we are talking about retro-futuristic aesthetics. That is until you look at some of their older models like the Citroen CX or SM. The C4 and now the e-C4 continue to be the backbone of Citroen’s lineup, but will quirky design and modern technology be enough to compete with the best?

It’s been around six years since Citroen spun the DS line into its own sub-brand, and while the latter has had a modest amount of success standing in its own legs, there’s a general feeling that the DS brand still has plenty of untapped potential. The French automaker hopes to unlock some of that potential with the new DS4. The upscale four-door hatchback is an important model for DS, largely because of the popularity of the segment it occupies.

That popularity, though, comes at a price, specifically with the models that the DS4 will compete against. We’re not talking about riff-raffs here; this segment is also occupied by a handful of German stalwarts, including the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series, and Mercedes A-Class. Still, if DS wants to be taken more seriously as an upscale brand, this is the segment where it needs to show its mettle. The DS4 will be tasked to do just that, and if the hatchback lives up to DS’s expectations, it can go a long way in adding some shine and boosting brand awareness for Citroen’s luxury brand.

The 2020 Citroen Ami is an all-electric vehicle based on the Ami One concept that the French company unveiled in 2019. Only 95 inches long and 55 inches wide, the Ami is in fact an elecric quadricycle rather than a full-blown car and it can be driven without a driver’s license.

This makes it accessible to people as young as 16 in most European countries (and 14 in France). Developed as a solution for city commuting over relatively short distances, the Ami is named after the original Citroen Ami, an economy car that the French firm produced from 1961 to 1978. The 2021 DS 8 is an upcoming midsize sedan from DS Automobile, the premium division of Citroen. The 2021 DS 8 is the company’s first venture into the midsize sedan market and it will be DS’ largest four-door yet, slotting above the DS 5LS.

Aimed at sedans like the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the 2021 DS 8 will share underpinnings with the Citroen C4 Picasso and the Peugeot 508. Spotted testing since 2019, the DS 8 will probably break cover in 2020. Like most DS products, it will be unveiled in China initially, but will be sold in Europe as well.

FCA and PSA are merging; this much we know is true. With this in mind, and the reminder that Peugeot has been itching to get back into the U.S. market, we’ve realized that this new merger with FCA could streamline and speed up that process in a big way. Furthermore, it opens the door for brands like Citroen, Vauxhall, and DS to ease into the U.S. market without taking too large of a risk. So, if this all plays out in the most favorable way possible, what cool cars could end up on U.S. roads in the near future? Let’s dig into it and look at the possibilities.

The Citroen 19_19 Concept is not a Tonka toy. Instead, it’s Citroen’s idea of how a fully autonomous car meant for cross-country trips will look in the future. Said to be inspired by the aviation world, it features a cabin brimming with tech that’s accessible via suicide doors. View it as the big brother of Citroen’s Ami One concept that’s built for the inner cities with licenseless drivers in mind.

Did you expect a nicer looking concept on Citroen’s 100th anniversary? After all, the endless streams of CXs, BXs or SMs should’ve been carried into the present day and into the future by something, right? Well, look at Citroen’s current lineup of cars. Do you see anything even remotely pretty or classy looking? I don’t and this autonomous EV sitting on 30-inch wheels is a sign that things won’t change. But underneath that GM AUTOnomy-esque body, there’s a revised version of Citroen’s Progressive Hydraulic Cushion suspension, a 100kWh battery pack that translates to a near-500-mile range, and a pair of electric motors that combine for a total output of 456 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of twist. We reckon that’s enough for the driverless means of transportation of the future but what’s more important is what the 19_19 Concept hides behind those four large doors.

Citroen is a manufacturer that many still associate with clever technical innovations wrapped in a unique styling package and, by that definition, the new Ami Concept fits right into the brand’s historic mold. It’s also not the first Citroen to be called Ami, so maybe the automaker is timidly trying to play the history card with this petit concept.

Citroën’s flagship presentation this year at the Paris Motor Show is the pre-production study for the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model. Dubbed the C5 Aircross SUV Hybrid Concept, it will go on sale from 2020. The SUV on display at the show features a special White and Deep Blue color code, with Electric Blue accents.

DS presented the new DS3 Crossback at the Paris Motor Show. The SUB-compact city SUV is the second SUV debut for the premium brand under the PSA Group and it took the path of competing with other small city crossovers. Without a direct premium competitor in its segment (save for the Audi Q2), the DS3 Crossback represent an interesting attempt by the French to excite buyers into this class. In essence, this car succeeded the DS3 small city car, but brings numerous novelties demonstrating DS ideology of creating exciting, different, and unique cars.

DS has been trying hard to give stiff competition to the German trio since its inception three years back. Despite having some quality vehicles like the DS3, DS4, and DS5, to name a few, the PSA Group marque has yet to announce itself as a serious threat to the rivals. In a valiant effort yet again, DS introduces the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4x4 – its first plug-in hybrid offering. Does this crossover have enough to stare down the German bullies?

French Auto Group PSA has announced that it will be electrifying all the models launched from 2019 onward. All cars will either be fully-electric or hybrid. This applies to all the brands under the PSA Group, including Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Vauxhall, and Opel. PSA is one of the first automakers to announce the electrification process across its entire group range. The first one to do it was Volvo.

Citroen plans to woo future C5 Aircross buyers with chunky SUV looks, striking fascias, and colorful design details. What you’re essentially looking at here is not an SUV, but the evolution of the European people carrier which Citroen chose to launch before the long overdue replacement for the C5 sedan and wagon.

First revealed for the Chinese market last year, and set to make its European debut at the Paris motor show this October, the C5 Aircross has been confirmed to arrive in showrooms by the end of 2018 with minor changes. Underpinning it is the same EMP2 platform used for the Peugeot 3008, 5008, and the Opel Grandland X - like these models from within the PSA group, the new C5 Aircross also lacks an all-wheel-drive option and only features Grip Control.

Previous C5-badged Citroens all used to feature the firm’s excellent hydropneumatic adjustable suspension, but here it’s been ditched in favor of what they call Progressive Hydraulic Cushions - basically two hydraulic stops on each corner: one for rebound and one for compression - and this is said to provide a very smooth ride, although the system is nowhere near as advanced as the previous one.

After exiting the U.S. market in 1991, PSA Group is eyeing a strong comeback. Larry Dominique, CEO of PSA Group North America, revealed that the company is seriously looking to re-establish itself in the U.S. again. In fact, the company has already started setting up their corporate office in Georgia, Atlanta. Are they a tad bit late, given how the trade war is picking up heat?
