Rare Versions Of American Cars You Probably Didn’t Know About
When you think of iconic, classic American cars, Cadillac Coupe DeVille, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, and Dodge Challenger are, often, some of the first to come to mind. And while each of them has had their fair share of special editions, we can’t help but wonder what classic American cars can be like, with a European twist. Whether it’s their design or an unusual engineering solution, these are the most obscure American classic cars ever to exist.
Remember a couple of months ago when we reported that Dodge would allocate 50 Dodge Vipers for a special "Dealer Exclusive Program?" Well, we have details on one of them: a Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR Roadster. This special edition was developed specifically for Woodhouse Dodge in Blair, Neb. There will be only 20 units produced, each carrying a price tag of $107,310.
This special edition includes an adjustable KW suspension, Stoptech rotors, lighter wheels, short shifter, and new fifth and sixth gears. The aerodynamic package includes a new, lower wing and light revisions to the front splitter. It, of course, also has a race yellow clear coat exterior with yellow driver’s stripe.
Woodhouse is the dealer that will get the most units allocated from this program because it has sold more Vipers than any other dealer with more than 75% of them modified. That’s quite a record for a small town with only 7,500 people.
This has truly been a year of ups and downs for Dodge Viper fans. Starting off with the proposed liquidation of the brand and more recently setting the single lap record at Laguna Seca, but the ultimate blow for any Viper enthusiast is that 2010 will be the last year that Chrysler will produce the V10 powered American super car. However even if the Viper is coming to an end, Dodge decided to go out in style; and in doing so they have promised that 2010 will be the best year in Viper history.
Even if there will only be 500 units produced in 2010, Dodge has announced that there will be more special and limited edition models than ever in next year’s lineup. There will also be two new colors added to the Viper’s color chart including a sparkling Toxic Orange Pearl and a glossy Bright Silver Metallic paint options. The 2010 snake will also be available with a wider dual racing stripe pattern and more than 7,600 possible variations concerning appearance alone.
The 2010 Viper SRT10 will be powered by an enormous 8.4 Liter V10 power plant that produces 600 HP and 560 lb-ft of torque that rocket the engine with wheels from 0 to 60 MPH in less than 4 seconds, run the quarter mile in the mid 11 second range before hitting a top speed of 202 MPH. However showing that the Viper is an all around performance machine it can complete the coveted 0-100-0 MPH run in 11 seconds flat.

As mentioned earlier today, the SEMA Show will be all about going retro with the Camaro and Challenger, and here’s more proof: the Challenger SRT8 Roadster concept by Group Five.
The car features chopped windscreen and seats only for two with the rear passenger area being hidden by a tonneau cover. On the exterior the roadster concept will feature a front spoiler, a hood shaker, a redesigned rear bumper with new exhaust pipes and a set of restyled rear LED lights.
Group Five aims to put the car into limited production.
Chrysler unveiled the Demon Roadster Concept last year at the Geneva Motor Show and shortly after they decided to put it into production. Not the company announced that the production version will be based on one of Chinese-automaker Chery’s platforms and will be front-wheel drive.
The Dodge Demon concept is a compact, nimble “roadster with an attitude,” a perfect balance of classic sports car proportion and simplicity blended with modern design and performance.
“While the iconic Dodge Viper is a dream car for many, the Dodge Demon is designed to be an attainable dream car,” said Jae Chung – Dodge Demon Principal Exterior Designer, Chrysler Group. “The exterior design is simple yet bold, featuring an energetic combination of curves and intersecting planes.”

Autocar UK reported that Dodge will unveil at Geneva Motor Show a rear-wheel-driven two-seater sports car to rival Mazda’s MX-5. The new Dodge is "a carbon copy of the Mazda MX-5," and does indeed draw a few cues from the Dodge Razor concept of 2002.
It will perfectly fit Dodge’s position as a performance brand in both the US and Europe, and will be a competitor for both the Mazda MX-5 and GM’s award-winning Pontiac Solstice.
