Harley Davidson commissioned these Street Rod Snow bikes

Harley Davidson commissioned these Street Rod Snow bikes

To haul riders around the Winter X Games

In its recent adventures, Harley Davidson has been seemingly busy with increasing involvement of snow and ice competition. Recently, the Milwaukee brand entered the Snowquake 2018, a snow dirt event in the Italian Alps, and then started the Snow Hill Climb, its own event at this year’s Winter X Games where riders drag up the hill on purpose-built Snow Hill Climb Sportsters.

For the same event, Harley came up with an ingenious idea and teamed up with Aaron and Shaun Guardado from Suicide Machine Company to build two snow bikes with skis and belts from a Street Rod 750. These bikes would act as safety vehicles for the event, and to haul athletes around between events.

Now that’s a phenomenon.

Meet the Harley Davidson Roadster Snow Drag.

A 1200 CX Roadster gets equipped with skis and snow belt to conquer the snow.

The Harley Davidson Roadster is the most sport-oriented version of the Sportster series offering an alternative to more conventional cruiser variants. This newcomer to Harley’s Sportster range may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But it is a better fit for the current market.

Now though, this roadster fell into the hands of some custom cracks and had been prepped up to become the finalist in the annual ‘Battle of the Kings’ contest. And what did they come up with to get there? A (insert a slang here) snow bike with skis belts and a mad looking electric paint job.

Video: Ronnie Renner Shows Us What Snow Biking Is All About

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve never heard of a snow bike before. Then again, that’s usually what happens when you live in a place where snow is more of a mythological concept than it is reality. So imagine my surprise when Red Bull sent an e-mail alert featuring freestyle motocross rider Ronnie Renner and his buddies running roughshod over the snow in British Columbia, Canada with only snow bikes at their disposal.

So what exactly is a snow bike? Based on what I’ve gathered, it’s a motocross bike at its core, but instead of its usual configuration, the front wheel was replaced with a ski and the rear wheel is aided with a snowmobile track. It looks incredibly awkward when it’s just sitting still, but once it starts moving the snow bike actually looks like a million bucks!

I never thought I’d see the day that such a machine could do all these things in the snow. I mean, have you ever seen a snowmobile track wheelie before? I haven’t, and it’s pretty sweet to watch Renner and his friends do it.

Check out the video and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. Snow bikes are pretty much useless in my part of the world, but if you snow at your disposal, this could be something that you can have a lot of fun doing.

Making snow men is cool, but snow bike riding is the business.
