Ducati expands its V-twin footprint ahead of MY2022 with a truly capable, twin-powered model on the Multistrada platform in the all-new Multistrada V2 and V2 S. Comfortable ergonomics, a powerful engine, and top-shelf electronics bring big-bore functionality together in a somewhat more compact, and decidedly lighter, globetrotting platform. You could call it an entry-level machine, but one that’s capable of being someone’s destination bike, and not just a stepping stone or transitional model.

Despite many riders thinking they need the biggest adventure bike out there, in reality the smaller models offer just as much rideability and always make more sense when tackling really technical off-road sections.

Benelli has been around since 1911, with fluctuating fortunes. In Chinese ownership since 2005, it now has the financial backing to succeed but will people be able to look past the ownership issue and see the motorcycle for what they are?

MV Agusta announces two new adventure bikes, one powered by a 550cc parallel twin engine sourced in China and the other powered by a 930cc triple-cylinder engine. Few other details released at the present time.

Husqvarna rolls into MY2022 with a significant addition to its lineup. Launching the adventure-bike sector, Husky introduces its ambassador, the Norden 901. Built with an off-road bias, the dual-sport “901” is nevertheless street legal to give it all-around globetrotting capabilities. A powerful, 899 cc engine delivers the goods with over 100 horsepower on tap, and comes partnered with a top-drawer electronics suite for safety, comfort, and control.

After being teased for several months, the Husqvarna Norden 901 has finally broken cover. Based on the KTM 890 range, it manages to have an identity all of its own.

Kawasaki leaps ahead to its 2022 model-year lineup with a new KLR 650 family. The base model comes with a number of improvements to the engine and electronics, all wrapped up under new bodywork. Fuel injection replaces the carburetor this year to modernize the powerplant along with a new instrument panel and updated lighting that does the same for the rest of the bike. If the base model isn’t exactly as adventure-tastic as you’d like, the factory put together an “Adventure” accessory pack and a touring “Traveler” trim package for a pair of bona fide adventure bikes that are good to go right off the showroom floor.

What better way of proving a motorcycle than with a near-impossible journey? And what could be more impossible than riding to the south pole, in -40°C temperatures? Which will give out first, the bikes or the riders?

Triumph has made oblique references as to which adventure bikes it is gunning for with the heavily revised 2022 Tiger 1200 and it is the BMW GS. However, if it’s not careful, it will find itself going head-to-head with the KTM 1290 Adventure and is that a battle it can win?
