• Electricity Takes on Gasoline As The Porsche Taycan Turbo S Lines up Against The Lamborghini Aventador SV

You’re gonna love how this race turns out

One of the joys of seeing more and more electric cars, particularly those of the performance-spec persuasion, is seeing them compete against some of the fastest and most powerful gasoline-powered supercars in the world. We’ve seen our fair share of drag races involving electric cars and traditional exotics, and while one side of those battles have mostly been Teslas, YouTube channel Lovecars switched things up by racing a Lamborghini Aventador SV against a Porsche Taycan Turbo S. This is a juicy and intriguing race, in large part because both the naturally aspirated Lambo and the all-electric Porsche return the same acceleration tim to 62 mph at 2.8 seconds despite carrying two completely different powertrain setups. Who takes the cake here? Let’s find out.

We don’t typically spoil the results of drag race videos, and I’m not going to start doing that now. Without having watched it, my money was on the Lamborghini Aventador SV. It draws the same amount of power — 750 horsepower — from its 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V-12 engine as the Taycan Turbo S generates from its electric motors. The German EV wallops its Italian counterpart in torque figures — 774 pound-feet of torque to 531 pound-feet of torque — but the Aventador SV is lighter — 3,472 pounds to 5,109 pounds — by almost a ton, resulting in a higher power-to-weight ratio that could come in handy in a straight-line race, especially with both models coming in all-wheel-drive layouts.

With the numbers laid out, it’s easy to assume that the Aventador SV would have no problem dispatching the Taycan Turbo S even with the latter generating a lot more torque at the jump. Well, if drag races are won on numbers, they wouldn’t be any fun.

The race between the Aventador SV and the Taycan Turbo S proceeded and while the results are surprising, there are elements that took place during the race that, at the very least, made the results legitimate, if not compelling.

Again, we’re not spoiling anything; you need to watch the episode on the LoveCars YouTube channel to find out which of these two modern titans took home the bacon — and certain bragging rights that come with it.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read full bio
