Almost a year after unveiling the Z Proto, Nissan has finally launched the compact sports car in New York City. The Nissan Z looks nearly identical to the concept and comes with a V-6 engine under the hood that makes 400 horses. It will also come with a manual gearbox as standard. A limited ‘Z Proto Spec’ model will also be available. As for the price, Nissan says it will start at around $40,000.

The Z is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 that makes 400 HP and 350 LB-FT of torque
The 2023 Nissan Z comes with a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V-6 engine under the hood that makes 400 horses at 6,400 rpm and 350 pound-feet of torque between 1,600- and 5,600 rpm.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. If you don’t prefer the stick shift, you can opt for the nine-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. Launch Control will be offered on both gearboxes.

The car will be offered in two trims – Sport and Performance

The Nissan Z will be offered in two trims – Sport and Performance. At the onset, the 2023 Z looks pretty darn cool with tasteful touches of modern and retro design. Both the trims come with LED headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights as standard. The car is devoid of any chrome and instead features black components that are synonymous with sporty nature. This includes a black front grille, door handles, etc. The other sporty touches include a front chin spoiler, a rear spoiler, a side spoiler, and a gloss black diffuser at the rear with dual exhaust tips.

The Sport trim comes with 18-inch wheels, whereas the Performance rides on 19-inch wheels

The Sport trim comes with 18-inch dark-painted aluminum wheels wrapped in 245/45 section Yokohama tires, whereas the Performance trim rides on 19-inch Rays lightweight forged-aluminum wheels shod in Bridgestone Potenza rubber.

The Nissan Z will be available in nine exterior shades, three of which are single-tones and six of them dual-tones. The single tone options include:

  • Black Diamond
  • Gun Metallic
  • Rosewood Metallic

The dual-tone options come with a contrasting black roof and the color options include:

  • Brilliant Silver
  • Boulder Gray
  • Seiran Blue
  • Ikazuchi Yellow
  • Passion Red
  • Everest White

The Nissan Z will go on sale sometime in early 2022

The 2023 Nissan Z is 172.4 inches long, 72.6 inches wide, and 51.8 inches tall. The wheelbase measures 100.4 inches and it sits 4.8 inches above the ground. The front and rear tracks are 61.6- and 62.8 inches wide on the Sport trim, and 61.2- and 61.6 inches wide on the Performance trim at the front and back, respectively.

On the inside, there are three analog gauges atop the center console inspired by the 240Z

The cabin, just like the exterior, is also a sweet mix of old and new design cues. The bucket seats are reminiscent of the ones of the GT-R. Cloth seats are offered as standard whereas leather seats are optional on the top Performance spec. Behind the three-spoke steering wheel is a digital instrument cluster, but there are analog gauges on the dash above the air vents that are tilted towards the driver. These are inspired by the 240Z and looked absolutely sexy.

Cloth bucket seats are standard, but leather seats are optional on the Performance trim

The Sport trim comes with an eight-inch touchscreen system as standard, whereas the Performance trim features a nine-inch touchscreen system on the center console. Both of them support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A six-speaker audio system comes as standard on the Sport trim and an eight-speaker Bose system with active noise cancellation on the Performance trim.

The 2023 Z offers 38.2 inches of headroom, 42.9 inches of legroom, 54.6 inches of hip room, and 54.2 inches of shoulder room.

There’s A Special Proto Spec, Too

The Z will be offered in nine exterior shades – three single-tone and six dual-tone

Nissan will offer the Z in a ‘Proto Spec’ limited edition model as well. Only 240 examples of the same will be up for sale. It will include:

  • Yellow-colored brake calipers
  • Bronze-colored aluminum-alloy wheels
  • Exclusive shift lever knob on the Manual Gearbox option
  • Proto Spec leather-appointed seats with yellow accents
  • Proto Spec suede + cloth door trim with yellow stitching
  • Special interior stitching

The Proto Spec can be had only on the Performance trim.
