Mercedes has retained the same trims this time around too. There are two engine options are offered in different states of tune on all four models.

The GT 43 and GT 53 trims are powered by a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder turbocharged mill. They come with a nine-speed SpeedShift automatic gearbox and the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system.

The GT 43 trim makes 362 horses between 5,500- and 6,100 rpm, and 369 pound-feet of twist between 1,800- and 4,500 rpm.

The GT 53 churns out 429 horses at 6,100 rpm and 384 pound-feet of torque. The torque bandwidth here is very impressive, with the car maintaining its peak oomph between 1,800- and 5,800 rpm. The outputs on both the trims are supplemented by an additional 21 horses and 184 pound-feet torque courtesy of a starter-generator.

The BMW M8 Gran Coupé rivals the GT 4-Door Coupé. It is slightly smaller on the outside, but looks smarter and has a stronger street cred

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe is slightly smaller than the Mercedes sedan, but it comes with a stonker of an engine and feels luxurious on the inside. While looks are subjective, it seems to be more appealing aesthetically. The Mercedes GT 4-Door Coupé now comes with a bench seat, too, but earlier this was an advantage the Bimmer held over its German counterpart. It features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a smaller 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The 2022 BMW M8 Gran Coupe goes up against the top-spec GT 63 S trim and starts at $130,000

Under the hood, the M8 Gran Coupe features a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine that generates 617 horses. This is around 17 horses more than before, courtesy of the Competition package now offered as standard. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, but it allows you to power only the rear wheels if you’re in the mood for some fun. The estimated 0-60 mph time is three seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 156 mph, but can be unlocked up to 190 mph.

The 2022 BMW M8 Gran Coupe starts at $130,000.

The RS7 is Audi’s offering to the segment. It looks more like a hatch, but that ensures if offers the best cargo space amongst the three

The RS7 is Audi’s offering to the segment and it takes the cake in many aspects. If you take the GT 4-Door Coupé’s six-pot mills out of the equation, it offers the best bang for the buck. On the outside, it looks more like a hatch, but that ensures it offers the best cargo space amongst the three. But, the Audi RS6 Avant has cannibalized into its sales, since it features the same engine, power specs, and performance figures, but is cheaper and an even more practical option.
