From deep within the bowels of Hennessey comes a very unexpected project that involves a 2021 Ford Mustang, the black and white color scheme of the Le Mans-winning Ford GT40 of 1966, and 808 horsepower of full-on, all-American muscle. Okay, maybe I’m over-selling it a little bit, as it is essentially just a rehash of Hennessey’s Heritage Edition from 2018 with a different color. But hey, this is Top Speed, and we love go-fast cars – this Mustang is certainly that, and I want to tell you a little more about it.

The 2021 Shelby Mustang Legend Edition
Much like the 2018 Mustang that came under the same name, this car is based on your regular Ford Mustang GT. That means it comes with the Coyote 5.0-liter V-8 that delivers a cool 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque – all of which can be delivered through a six-speed manual or a ten-speed automatic transmission. This is Hennessey that we’re talking about, though, so those 460 ponies just aren’t good enough.
In fact, this Mustang GT is more powerful than Ford’s pride and joy, the Shelby GT500.
Where that model puts out 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque, the Hennessey Mustang GT Legend Edition puts down 808 horsepower and 677 pound-feet of torque.
This is enough for a 0-60 mph sprint in just 3.3 seconds, nearly one second faster that the base Mustang GT. That’s also a bit faster than the Shelby GT500 when tested by Motor Trend back in early 2020 (it did the sprint in 3.6-3.7 seconds).
The Legend Edition will also run the quarter-mile in 10.7 seconds at 132 mph and tops out above 200 mph.
Now, these figures wouldn’t be all that great if Hennessey started out with a GT500, but we’re talking about an increase of 348 horsepower and 257 pound-feet of torque. It wasn’t that easy of a tune to make, and the list of upgrades is pretty extensive. As far as the engine is concerned, the big highlight is the 3.0-liter supercharger system, but there are a number of other upgrades, including:
- Air-to-water intercooler system
- Upgraded fuel injectors
- High-flow fuel pump
- High-flow air induction system
- Catback stainless steel exhaust system
As for the exterior design, this is pretty much your basic Mustang GT, but there have been some minor modifications made. The elephant in the room is clearly the black and white heritage paint and the No. 2, which harkens back to that 1966 Le Mans-winning Ford GT40. Other upgrades to the exterior are subtle, but include:
- CarbonAero front carbon fiber splitter
- CarbonAero carbon fiber side sills
- CarbonAero rear spoiler with gurney lip
- 20-inch alloy wheels
- Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires
- Lowered suspension system
In the end, only 50 examples of the 2021 Mustang Legend Edition will be produced. Each of them includes Hennessey embroidered headrests inside along with a serial numbered dash plaque that matches the engine plaque under the hood. While the car itself is new upon delivery, Hennessey notes that there will be up to 200 miles on the odometer at the time of delivery, all of which will be accrued during testing and dyno runs to ensure the best quality possible. Finally, there’s also a three-year, 36,000 mile warranty. Hennessey hasn’t specifically listed any pricing for this Legend Edition, but the 2018 model went for $89,950, but only 19 of them were produced
